Chongyang Palace in Xi'an, the site of the Quanzhen Sect Chongyang Palace, the ancestral court of Quanzhen Taoism, also known as Chongyang Wanshou Palace or Zuan, enjoys the prestigious titles of 'Ancestral Court under Heaven' and 'Holy Land of Quanzhen'. It is located in Zuan Sub-district, Hu County, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, 40 kilometers from the center of Xi'an. The various buildings cover an area of 10,800 square meters, with a construction area of 1,229.2 square meters, a memorial tower construction area of 105.6 square meters, and additional construction area of 222.5 square meters. Chongyang Palace is the foremost of the three ancestral courts of the Quanzhen Sect and the place where the founder of Quanzhen Taoism, Wang Chongyang, practiced asceticism and left his mortal remains. Wang Chongyang advocated the unity of the three teachings of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, with the principle of 'comprehending the three teachings, recognizing the heart and seeing the nature, solely embodying the truth', hence naming his teaching Quanzhen. His disciple Qiu Chuji was highly regarded by Emperor Genghis Khan, which led to the prosperity of Quanzhen Taoism in the north. Thus, Chongyang Palace became the ancestral court of Quanzhen Taoism. Chongyang Palace in Xi'an is the founding ancestral court of Quanzhen Taoism, while Beijing's Baiyun Temple and Shanxi's Yongle Palace also claim to be 'ancestral courts', they were actually built by disciples of Wang Chongyang. Location: Zuan Sub-district, Hu County, Xi'an City, at the northern foot of Zhongnan Mountain, beside County Road 105. Opening hours: All year round, Monday to Friday 8:30-17:00, Saturday to Sunday 8:00-17:00. Ticket price: 25 yuan per person. Fans of Jin Yong's novels may have a deep impression of the 'Tomb of the Living Dead' where 'Little Dragon Girl' once lived, with its numerous mechanisms and the inscriptions of the 'Nine Yang True Scriptures'. This place is also where Wang Chongyang practiced. The stories and legends from history seem very distant from us, but in real history, there was indeed a person named Wang Chongyang, and his relics (places of cultivation and burial) have now become a place that integrates Taoist traditional culture and tourist attractions, located in the hottest tourist area of Shaanxi Province today - Hu County, Xi'an City. Since ancient times, the Qinling-Zhongnan Mountains in Shaanxi Province have always been one of the most legendary places in China and the main holy land of the traditional Chinese religion - Taoism. On this trip, we set out from Guangzhou, took a plane to the Qinling-Zhongnan Mountain region to visit the deeds of Wang Chongyang, the grandmaster of Quanzhen Taoism, and to appreciate the cultural charm of Quanzhen Taoism. Our first stop is Chongyang Palace (attraction ticket price 25 yuan per person), located in Zuan Town, Hu County, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, about 55 kilometers from the center of Xi'an. It is the burial place of the master Wang Chongyang and the foremost of the three ancestral courts of Quanzhen Taoism (the other two ancestral courts are Yongle Palace in Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, and Yanyan Cave in Yantai, Shandong). As it is a cultural attraction, it does not attract many visitors on a regular basis, so it is not considered a popular scenic spot locally.
