Gubei Ferry

Gubei Ferry, originally named the Gubei Ferry Feihuang Tourist Area, was officially renamed to Gubei Ferry Feihuang Tourist Area in July 2015. The Gubei Ferry Tourist Area is located within the territory of Wangcun Town, 15 kilometers northwest of Xingyang City. The area covers 3.5 square kilometers. It is adjacent to Hulao Pass in the west, connected to Feilong Top, Hanba Erwang City, and Taohuayu Tourist Area in the east, bordered by the surging Yellow River in the north, and the lush Chuanyuan in the south. In the past, the ancient cypress was verdant, with green trees providing shade, the scenery was beautiful, and the landscape was pleasant, making it one of the key scenic spots on the Yellow River tourist route. The South-to-North Water Diversion Project passes through this area. Historical records This is an ancient ferry on the bank of the Yellow River with a history of more than 2000 years. It has witnessed the smoke of war during the Chu-Han contention, the battles of the Three Kingdoms, and heard the hoofbeats of the heroes of the Sui and Tang dynasties competing for supremacy. Every inch of the yellow soil is imprinted with the long smoke and dust of the years. The Yellow River makes a bend at Wangcun Town of Xingyang, leaving behind a small river bay called Gubei Mouth. This is the calmest and most gentle section of the Yellow River in Xingyang, connecting to Feilong Top in the east and Hulao Pass in the west, facing the surging Yellow River, and backed by the continuous Mangshan Mountains. Its name comes from a legend; it is said that in ancient times, there was a tall and straight old cypress tree here, whose shade covered the sun, and it was the place where Han Emperor Liu Bang took shelter from the rain. It is recorded in the county annals: 'Why hurry to Chenggao Circle, the soldiers of Gubei turn slowly to avoid the rain'. Later, this place was made into a ferry, hence named 'Gubei Ferry'. The ancient cypress of Gubei Ferry also once sheltered Tang Emperor Li Shimin from wind and rain. Legend has it that the ancient cypress was once so lush that its canopy could cover an area of an acre, and when Li Shimin made a night attack on Dou Jiande's camp and encountered rain here, he took shelter under the tree, and not a single person got wet. Li Shimin praised it as the 'thousand-year-old spiritual root'. As if destined not to be forgotten by history, as the crossing point of the national South-to-North Water Diversion Project, where the romantic encounter between the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers takes place, the ancient Gubei Ferry will once again rejuvenate, witnessing the grand vision of the South-to-North Water Diversion, and the strong steps of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The national South-to-North Water Diversion and West-to-East Gas Transmission plans have been set to cross the Yellow River here, with parts of the project already underway. The development and construction of the scenic area's wharf, racetrack, leisure hunting district, ten thousand mu fishpond, lotus park, and agroforestry ecological garden will drive the tourism industry here onto a fast track of development.
