The Essence of Huizhou - Xidi Ancient Town

The Essence of Huizhou - Xidi Xidi, located in Yixian County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, was founded during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Northern Song Dynasty. The streets and alleys are paved with Yixian bluestone, and there are currently 200 ancient residences from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, rich in wood carvings, stone carvings, and brick carvings. It is a model of Huizhou architectural art, known as the "epitome of traditional Chinese culture" and the "museum of Ming and Qing residential buildings in China". In 2000, the ancient villages of southern Anhui, represented by Xidi and Hongcun, were listed as World Cultural Heritage sites. In 2001, it was included in the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. The Hu Wenguang Memorial Archway, built in the sixth year of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1578), was erected by the imperial court to commend the official Hu Wenguang for his outstanding achievements. The archway is a three-bay, four-pillar, five-story structure, 12.3 meters high and 9.95 meters wide. It is a landmark building in Xidi. The Hu Clan Ancestral Hall is the most important cultural relic in Xidi and a representative of ancestral hall culture, such as the Zhuimu Hall and the Jing'ai Hall, which are all breathtaking. Personally, I think the ancestral hall culture is the essence of Xidi.
