Xiling Gorge is the only gorge among the Three Gorges that has preserved its original scenery relatively well

Known as the 'Gateway to the Three Gorges and the Throat of Sichuan and Hubei', Xiling Gorge was originally the most dangerous gorge among the Three Gorges, with reefs standing tall, waves surging, strange rocks scattered on both banks, many rapids, and fast-flowing waters. Zigui to the north of the gorge is the hometown of Qu Yuan, and nearby is the hometown of Wang Zhaojun from the Han Dynasty. After the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, the water level was raised only by 10 to 20 meters by the Gezhouba Dam, and the area between the two dams has preserved the beautiful scenery of the original Xiling Gorge. A stretch of about thirty kilometers of the original gorge landscape has not been submerged, and by taking a boat, one can enjoy the authentic scenery of the Three Gorges. The breathtaking views and the long cultural history attract tourists from home and abroad to linger and forget to return.
