Yiwu City, formerly known as Wushang, is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province, managed by Jinhua City. It is a Type II large city, bordering Dongyang City to the east, Yongkang City and Wuyi County to the south, Jindong District and Lanxi City to the west, and Zhuji City and Pujiang County to the north. It is located in the central part of Zhejiang Province, in the eastern part of the Jinqu Basin, with mountains surrounding it on the east, south, and north sides; it has a subtropical monsoon climate. In 1988, Yiwu County was abolished and Yiwu City was established. Yiwu City has produced historical figures such as Luo Binwang, Zong Ze, Zhu Danxi, and modern educators like Chen Wangdao, literary theorist Feng Xuefeng, and historian Wu Han; it is one of the four major regional central cities in Zhejiang, a national comprehensive supporting reform pilot area, a national civilized city, a national sanitary city, a national environmental protection model city, an excellent Chinese tourist city, a national garden city, a national forest city, a Zhejiang provincial civilized demonstration city, one of the richest regions in China, and a pilot area for the demonstration zone of high-quality development and common prosperity in Zhejiang; it is the world's largest small commodities distribution center, recognized by international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank as the world's largest market, and listed as one of the first batch of national new urbanization comprehensive pilot areas; Yiwu International Trade City has been awarded by the China National Tourism Administration as China's first AAAA-level shopping tourism area.
