Fan Jiang Zhang Da, who killed Zhang Fei, threw Zhang Fei's head into the Yunyang River when he went east to join Sun Wu. The end of a generation of heroes was so sad that it was really heartbreaking. And the local people in Yunyang, because of their admiration for Zhang Fei, built temples and shrines for him. For more than 1,700 years, praying to King Zhang Bodhisattva has become an inseparable part of Yunyang's folk customs.
