Finally, I arrived at Dhangethi Jetty. At noon, the Tiffany Blue jelly-like sea was breathtaking, a gift from God to the Maldives.

It is the only ice cream shop on the island🍨 Because the weather in the Maldives is hot and sunny, like many other shops, they open in the evening to escape the heat. The ice cream shop opens at 4pm (we found out that it doesn't actually open every day, so we have to talk about some fate to eat). Italian ice cream is made from local ingredients, such as some unique local plants, freshly made. You can try it. 🇲🇻 Chapter 10 of My Maldives Journey Staying on the local island Dhangethi + Diving I believe this was the smartest decision of the entire trip. Many people visiting the Maldives might spend a whole week at a luxurious resort. Honestly, there are plenty of stunning overwater villas in Southeast Asia that are closer and much cheaper. Plus, diving excursions at resorts can cost several times more (US$200-300 per dive). What truly sets the Maldives apart is its underwater world. Here, the main attractions are the big marine creatures that are hard to see elsewhere, like manta rays and whale sharks. During my trip, I saw manta rays twice out of four dives and encountered whale sharks once while snorkeling and once during a deep dive. (While whale sharks can also be seen in places like Bohol and Donsol in the Philippines, the unique combination of manta rays and whale sharks seems to be exclusive to the Maldives. Plus, you don’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn to see them—it’s a more relaxed experience.) The water temperature in the Maldives is around 29-30°C, so there’s no need for a wetsuit. Just wear a rash guard and leggings or shorts for sun protection, and you’re good to go. During my dives, the water was crystal clear, the sunlight was abundant, and there were no currents.

🇲🇻Episode 8 of a trip to the Maldives The resident island of Dhangethi has 3 restaurants on the island with almost the same menu, all Western food. Our agent said that only Compass🧭 is good. We have secretly eaten and tried other restaurants, which are actually not bad, but the most beautiful environment, the largest scale is Compass. HK$75-100 per person. There will be a feeding wild Sting Ray session at 7pm every night, and guests can try feeding for free. There are not many specialties in the Maldives, where locals mostly eat tuna and curry, and Kothu Roshi (or Kottu Rashi) is a very popular local street food in the Maldives, which can be translated as “fried roshi” or “chopped fried pizza”. This dish combines chopped Maldivian pizza (Roshi) with smoked tuna (Valhomas), vegetables, eggs and spices. It is rich and charred, and is an authentic specialty of the Maldives. Chop the pizza and stir-fry, similar to the texture of stir-fried spaghetti. Submarine sandwiches are large and delicious, while other pizza, pasta, salads, and smoothies taste good. The steak is really not recommended to try, unless you miss the cheap cheap steak in the barbecue package. Pepper cakes will also be served free of charge. There will be many cats as escorts, and there is also a heart-shaped dining table, which is perfect for couples. You can also smoke hookah. Maldives Travel Chapter 6 During our stay on the local island of Dhangethi, we stayed at the Scuba Island Inn, a guest house that exudes a warm, homely atmosphere. The place was cozy, clean, and peaceful. Upon check-in, the hotel welcomed us with a beautiful arrangement of leaves and fresh flowers on the bed.

🇲🇻 Maldives Chapter Seven My trip mainly focused on staying at Adh Dhangethi (Dhangethi Island) for diving. Adh Dhangethi is a local island located in the South Ari Atoll of the Maldives. The island is famous for its beautiful Bikini Beach, white moon swing, and rich marine life such as whale sharks, manta rays, and shipwreck diving. Dhangethi, a local island, is situated southwest of Malé, about 1.5 hours by boat. Although it is called a local island, it is not underdeveloped. The island is small enough to walk around in about an hour. There are over twenty guesthouses on the island, some with swimming pools, costing around HK$500-1000 per night, which is much cheaper than resorts. There are also many newly constructed houses on the island. We happened to come across a newly painted landmark, offering colorful spots for photos. I visited at the end of January, and the island was not crowded with tourists, providing a comfortable and spacious atmosphere. Among all the visitors, we were the only two Asian-looking individuals, while the rest were all Western travelers.

We enjoyed a fantastic vacation. The food was delicious and superb. The staff was incredibly nice and welcoming. Our room was spotless and offered a stunning ocean view. The island is quite small, featuring just 30 rooms. It's extremely peaceful and incredibly relaxing! We reserved a water villa, and it was simply wonderful to wake up each day and admire the ocean views. Our villa was positioned on the ocean side, offering more privacy compared to the other side, which is Laguna-facing and adjacent to the beach villas. All the staff were fantastic, particularly Hari from the bar. A special shoutout to Andrea from Turisanda, the resident Italian staff for support. During our visit, I obtained my Open Water Diver license through the Dive Corporation located on the island. My dive master instructor, Dude, was phenomenal, instilling confidence and teaching comprehensively. Such a delightful experience—we're eager to return!

During our time at the Ari Grand Hotel on the Maldives Local Island of Dhangethi, I was genuinely impressed by the cordial reception and exceptional customer service provided by the entire staff. The hotel is conveniently located, just a minute's stroll from the bikini tourist beach on one side of the island and a few minutes' walk to the seafront restaurants and cafes on the other. The rooms were contemporary and roomy, with balconies boasting stunning views! The cooked breakfast menu varies daily, though cereal, fruit, and bread are always available. We relished a complimentary evening buffet featuring a delightful mix of Maldivian cuisine. Ari Grand Hotel offers an array of in-house excursions. We participated in the Whale Shark trip and were fortunate enough to spot and swim alongside one. Everything about the trip was superb, and with only one other person joining us, it was a delightful experience! Staying on local islands offers great value for money while supporting the local economy. There is no alcohol served on the island due to religious customs, and it’s essential to dress respectfully, but these aspects didn't affect us. Wearing UV protection clothing allowed us full access to all beaches. The local community is incredibly welcoming and glad to have tourists visit their island. I wholeheartedly recommend Ari Grand Hotel and hope you might also consider local islands to experience what is truly, paradise!

We stayed in deluxe water villa 313, where the snorkeling was excellent with an abundance of colorful coral, which was a delightful surprise. This is my first trip to the Maldives for our honeymoon vacation. Prior to coming, I sought out numerous influencer recommendations for islands. Ultimately, I chose Lily Beach because the snorkeling there is fantastic, with plenty of coral and sharks. Every night at the jetty, there is a shark feeding event—so thrilling! The meals here are delightful; I particularly enjoy the Aqva lunch. The staff is also welcoming. Housekeeper Gloria has managed our bookings and reminded us of our activities—very professional.
