Lianyungang Mountain and Sea 5-Day Itinerary
As an experienced traveler, you surely understand: Lianyungang is not just a geographical label as the "Northern Gateway of Jiangsu," but the only coastal ancient city in China that uniquely combines mountains, sea, islands, ports, antiquity, and immortality — the birthplace of Journey to the West, the departure port of Xu Fu’s eastward voyage, the Crystal Capital of the East China Sea, the site of the Qin East Gate ruins, and Jiangsu’s only coastal mountain-type national geopark. Over five days and four nights, we focus on geographic compactness + cultural logic + smooth routes, avoiding detours and minimizing transfers (core attractions connected by bus ≤20 minutes), to truly help you understand the structure and spirit of this "Number One Scenic Spot of the East China Sea."
🌊 Five-day route: from mountains to sea, towards immortality and the port (mainly by bus + short taxi rides)
Day 1|Yuntai Wonderland · Huaguo Mountain Scenic Area (Core Area)
Stay in Cangwu Road, Haizhou District (recommended All Seasons/Selected Home Inn, 230 RMB/night). In the morning, head straight to [Huaguo Mountain] (ticket 90 RMB, including scenic shuttle): no need to hike the entire route, focus on Water Curtain Cave (natural grotto), Sanyuan Palace (thousand-year-old Taoist temple), and Jade Maiden Peak (Jiangsu’s highest peak, 624.4 meters); enjoy magnolia in spring, cool forest in summer, red leaves in autumn, and snow pines in winter — suitable all year round.
Day 2|Mountain and Sea Secret Realm · Yuwan Scenic Area + Kongque Valley
Take the bus directly to [Yuwan] (ticket 60 RMB): the "Jiuzhaigou of Northern Jiangsu," with Longtan Waterfall, Old Longtan, and a cluster of waterfalls cascading down; hike through streams and ravines, bring anti-slip shoes; in the afternoon, transfer to [Kongque Valley] (ticket 50 RMB): a quiet, less crowded spot with ancient ginkgo trees, a peacock garden, and a glass plank road, perfect for photography.
Day 3|Millennium Seaport · Kongwang Mountain + Lianyungang Old Street + Sea Yuntai Mountain
Morning visit to [Kongwang Mountain] (ticket 30 RMB): China’s earliest Buddhist cliff carvings (Eastern Han Dynasty), 300 years earlier than Dunhuang, with inscriptions of "Sea Yuntai" still preserved; walk to [Lianyungang Old Street] (free): a century-old salt transport dock, Yulin Road stone street, Liqun Bridge, and the original site of the Tianhou Temple, where you can touch the memories of the Maritime Silk Road; in the evening, take the cable car up [Sea Yuntai Mountain] (ticket 60 RMB) to overlook Lian Island, the cross-sea bridge, and massive ships entering and leaving the port — a stunning sunset view.
Day 4|Island Style · Lian Island Scenic Area (Suma Bay + Dasha Bay)
Take bus + ferry to [Lian Island] (ticket 50 RMB): Jiangsu’s largest island, focus on [Suma Bay Ecological Park] (clean beach, many shells) and [Dasha Bay Bathing Beach] (well-equipped, suitable for swimming in summer); pick seaweed in spring, collect sea snails in autumn, observe coastal erosion landforms in winter — quieter outside peak season.
Day 5|Culinary Finale · East China Sea Crystal City + Local Food Market Experience
In the morning, visit [East China Sea Crystal City] (free): the global crystal distribution center, look for the "East China Sea Origin" label, and you can find natural crystal bracelets under 100 RMB; before departure, go to [Xinpu Farmers’ Market] to buy Wang Shu’s drip vinegar (15 RMB/bottle), Guanyun Dou Dan (seasonal, freshest in June, 80 RMB/jin), Ganyu pancakes (10 RMB/jin), and pack a bag of "Yunwu Tea" (35 RMB/jin) as souvenirs.
🐒 Cultural and Spending Tips
Core culture: Journey to the West culture (Wu Cheng’en once served as Haizhou magistrate, Huaguo Mountain as prototype), Maritime Silk Road culture (Xu Fu’s departure port), crystal culture (accounts for 50% of national reserves), salt culture (important salt town in Ming and Qing dynasties), Huaihai opera (national intangible cultural heritage);
General expenses: total attraction tickets about 290 RMB/person; dining 40–60 RMB per person (Dou Dan scrambled eggs 48 RMB/portion, Guanyun rice cake 12 RMB/pack); bus 2 RMB/ride, taxi single trip ≤20 RMB;
Avoid pitfalls: ① Outside Huaguo Mountain, many "Sun Wukong’s Golden Cudgel" and "Calming Sea Needle" are low-quality alloys, do not buy; ② In Crystal City, look for the "East China Sea County Origin Certificate," high-priced "Hetian jade" inside the scenic area is actually dyed quartzite; ③ Be cautious with seafood stalls on Lian Island without signs by the sea, recommended are [Suma Bay Fisherman’s Home] or [Dasha Bay Seafood Restaurant], with clear pricing.
The beauty of Lianyungang lies in its grandeur and everyday life — when the sea mist rolls over Jade Maiden Peak, the old street salt warehouse is filled with the aroma of vinegar; where the waves crash on Lian Island’s shore, craftsmen in Crystal City are polishing a beam of light. A slow five-day journey will let you truly touch the heart of an Eastern fairyland where mountains and sea embrace, and ancient and modern shine together.
