Step into Westeros and capture the magic yourself! These seven real-world filming locations span from the icy North to the sunlit South, each offering breathtaking scenery and a touch of fantasy. Whether you’re chasing dragons, walking the Kingsroad, or exploring ancient castles, these spots are perfect for your next travel photo adventure.
🌿 NORTHERN REALMS
1️⃣ Dark Hedges, Northern Ireland — The haunting avenue of beech trees that became the Kingsroad. Visit early morning for misty light and fewer tourists.
2️⃣ Ballintoy Harbour — The rugged coastline that served as the Iron Islands. Bring a wide‑angle lens to capture the dramatic cliffs and crashing waves.
3️⃣ Castle Ward — The real‑life Winterfell. You can even take archery lessons in Stark costume and explore the filming sets used in Season 1.
☀️ SOUTHERN KINGDOMS
4️⃣ Dubrovnik, Croatia — King’s Landing’s sunlit walls and sea views. Walk the city walls for panoramic shots of the Adriatic and Fort Lovrijenac.
5️⃣ Alcázar of Seville, Spain — The Water Gardens of Dorne. The Moorish architecture and tiled courtyards make it a photographer’s dream.
6️⃣ Gaztelugatxe, Spain — Dragonstone’s winding stone bridge. Climb the 241 steps to the chapel for a sweeping coastal view worthy of Daenerys herself.
7️⃣ Mdina, Malta — The original King’s Landing from Season 1. Its medieval streets and sandstone walls glow beautifully at golden hour.
💡 Photography Tips
· Visit at sunrise or sunset for cinematic lighting.

When I went to Ireland and Northern Ireland last time, I specially visited the location of the Winter City shooting film "The Game of Power". When I really stood in the Winter City, I felt "Oh, John Snow is The feeling of here." However, because I still did a lot of special effects in the later stage, many people who came for the first time would think, hey, how is it not like the TV series? Hahahaha.
You can also take Tour at the scene, wear the clothes of the extras, go to more punches and visit the place, as if for a moment, really crossed back to the Winter City.
