Before Tirana, the main cities and trading areas were located in Durrës. Durrës had towns as early as the 7th century AD and was later ruled by the Romans and Byzantines. At that time, it was known as Tirasium. It boasts numerous ancient city walls and a Roman-era amphitheater. Although there aren't many historical sites, it still offers a glimpse into the local history. What might surprise you? One of my favourite thing to do when travelling is to wander along the streets and discover street art and grafitti on the walls. Whoever who did them, thank you, you really help fill the world with colours and joy for those who found them. Besides some of them really add flavour to the city landscape in a tasteful manner.
