🍷 Discover Echuca’s Wine Wonderland at Port of Echuca! Nestled along the lush Murray River, the Port of Echuca offers more than riverboat heritage—it’s a hotspot for wine lovers craving a unique cellar-door experience.
Start your adventure at St Anne’s Winery Shop, tucked right inside the port (74 Murray Esplanade, Echuca). As you walk in, you’re greeted by a visually striking wall of oak barrels filled with locally crafted red wines—a true “choose your own adventure” for vino fans. Bring your own container or grab one there, and buy in bulk: options range from 750ml, 1L, up to a generous 5L. If you’re keen for more, consider taking home one of their mini barrels—perfect for a statement piece and a practical vessel for endless pours.
Must-do: Take a guided tasting to compare the different varieties and discover limited releases—the knowledgeable staff love sharing local secrets! Snap an “insta-worthy” shot with the sunlight pouring through the front windows onto rows of gleaming barrels (ask if you can get a photo with your freshly filled bottle for that authentic touch).
Tips: Visit between 9am–11am for fewer crowds and a relaxed chat with staff. Sensible footwear is a must, as both indoor and outdoor spaces spill onto the riverfront and historical timber walkways. If you’re driving, keep in mind their bulk options—there’s secure parking nearby to make loading easy.
Precautions: Check your wine allowances if heading out of Australia; bulk purchases might need special packing.

🚂💨 Echuca’s Port & Steam Garage: History in Action!
Step into Echuca’s golden era where the mighty steam engine once powered the town’s heartbeat! It’s a paradise for history-lovers and engineering buffs, with awe-inspiring machinery and classic riverside vibes.
Begin your adventure at the Port of Echuca (74 Murray Esplanade), open daily from 9:00-17:00. Here, you’ll stroll the original wharf and catch the legendary sight of paddle steamers. Don’t miss the museum, hands-on interactive exhibits, and the steam-powered sawmill engine that ran hard until 1958—a testament to Aussie ingenuity! Snap a quintessential “insta-worthy” shot from the wharf looking out over Murray River at sunrise for epic lighting.
Next, head over to the Steam Garage on Watson St (open all day). Discover the authentic steam engine brilliance up close. Watch for special weekends when operators run live demos—ask locals for schedules! Must-do: Stand by the mill engine as it powers up, feeling the energy it once gave to the entire sawmill. Best photo spot: catch the pistons and flywheel in motion for that old-school machinery drama.
Insider tip: If you love engineering, linger and chat with the volunteers—many are retired machinists with fascinating stories. Early mornings are quietest for exploring and getting unobstructed photos. Keep clear of moving parts during demos, and always follow staff instructions for safety.
Bring snacks and water, as options in Steam Garage are limited. Port has better amenities.

All Aboard Historic Charm at Echuca Port 🚤✨
Step back in time at the Port of Echuca, where Australia’s iconic paddle steamers, heritage buildings, and a fascinating mill engine offer an immersive riverside experience!
This engine was used at the Murray River Sawmills until 1948.
It drove a complete sawmill and was one of two mill engines on the original site. With a 13' 4" (4 metre) flywheel, the engine was restored at the Port of Echuca in 1986. It is one of only 3 or 4 of its type remaining in the world.

Go to rural Australia.
When it comes to travel in Australia, Sydney is often mentioned, but in the country towns you can feel the natural scenery and the leisurely flow of time.
Echuca, 3 hours from Melbourne, is a place where many local Sydney people come to visit on their private river ferries from Sydney on holidays, and you can spend a very peaceful time. Also, since the ferries are basically considered to be a convenient means of transportation, you cannot experience it just by going around the tourist spots. You can see the local lifestyle. Speaking of travel, there are many things to do, such as dinner and rooftop bar cruises, but even those who have a little time can take a day trip. I think that taking the express train on the corridor will also be a healing space where you can relax and relieve your fatigue from the busyness of Japan.

There is a limit in Victoria, and you can ride for about 2,000 yen. You can go anywhere in Victoria, so you can travel at a great price.

Echuca is located on the border between Victoria and New South Wales, along the Murray River. It belongs to Victoria and is a small town nearly three hours’ drive north from the center of Melbourne.
Echuca is an Australian Aboriginal word meaning water meeting. As it is the closest location to the Murray River from Melbourne, it became a prosperous river port city in the 1970s and is the largest inland port in Australia. At that time, goods were shipped to Echuca Wharf by steamship and then transported to Melbourne by rail. Wool, wheat, grain, livestock and timber were the most common. However, with the improvement of roads and railway expansion in most areas, depression began in the 1990s, ending Echuca's role as a major economic center. However, Echuca Wharf has been listed as one of Australia's national heritage sites.
