Spitzkopf, a rocky mountain located near the center of the Namib Desert, is also known as the Matterhorn of Namibia. It was formed by weathering granite hundreds of millions of years ago! The highest rocky peak is 1,728m above sea level. It's very hot during the day in Namibia, so we decided to avoid the hot weather and aim for the sunset! We explored while climbing the rocky mountain until sunset. Watching the rocky mountain dyed red by the setting sun and having a drink in the great outdoors was just too good. Spitzkoppe is a group of rock peaks located between the capital, Windhoek, and the port city of Swakopmund. Made of granite that has weathered over approximately 700 million years, its distinctive, rounded rock surface is a beautiful feature. ○Highlights & Features👀 The rock arch is a natural rock arch formed by wind and wave erosion. Especially at sunset, the contrast between the fiery red sun and the mineral rocks, unique to Africa, is a sight to behold. It truly deserves to be called the "primitive landscape of the Earth." Because it's not overly touristy, it's a recommended spot for those who want to experience the power of nature in a quiet setting. ○Location Country: Namibia ○Access🚗 The Rock Arch is most commonly accessed by rental car (4WD recommended) or local tour. I rented a car and drove there from Swakopmund.💨 It takes about 2-3 hours by car from Swakopmund. There are many unpaved roads and sandy areas, and after sunset, it will be pitch black for a while. If you're not confident in your driving skills, we recommend joining a tour. Many people combine this visit with sightseeing at Cape Cross or along the coast. This place makes you feel like you've landed on the moon. This is Namibia's Moon Landscape! The famous movie Planet of the Apes was apparently filmed here. The granite extruded from the Earth's interior about 500 million years ago was eroded by the Swakop River, and this unique uneven terrain is reminiscent of the moon. By the way, it was scorching hot during the day. Don't forget to take precautions against heatstroke, or you'll get exhausted! A spectacular view that makes you feel like you're on the moon! This is the top of Dune Seven, the highest sand dune in Namibia 🏜️ It's located on the outskirts of Walvis Bay! A spectacular spot with blue skies and sand dunes spreading out as far as the eye can see ✨ The only way to reach the top is by walking, but the sand keeps your feet in the sand and it's hard to move forward, and the sand is just so hot 🤣 You'll get burned in sandals, so I recommend wearing sneakers! You can't see this beautiful view that spreads out at the end of the climb unless you reach the top 🥹 I'm really glad I climbed! Traveling to Spitzkoppe in Namibia was an amazing experience and an unforgettable adventure. Spitzkoppe is considered one of the most famous natural landmarks in the country, a massive rock formation located in the beautiful Namib Desert. When I arrived at Spitzkoppe, I was mesmerized by the stunning beauty of the landscape around me. The giant rock monuments and towering mountains give a sense of joy and humility at the same time. The unique rock shapes and amazing natural formations seemed like they belonged to another world. My trip to Spitzkoppe was a great opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the serenity and stillness of the beautiful desert.
