Fes Médina Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Fes is the oldest of Morocco's imperial cities. A must-visit attraction is the traditional leather tannery located in the old medina.
Incredible Fes 🇲🇦
Went to this amazing place in the summer and fell in love. People are super welcoming and nice. Definitely gonna come back #morocco
The Imperial City of Fes
Enter the medieval city through the monumental door Bab Bou Jeloud, decorated with mosaic, enamel-filled and resplendent to the sun. Here find yourself absorbed in a world where traditional methods have been preserved: the artisans work with skill using original tools, the women cook bread in the public oven, the weavers work on looms, and donkeys are the only means of transport permitted inside the medina.
Ain lwali is 14 km from the center of Fès.
It is a wild Cold Spring Water. I really loved it. You must drive there or get a private Taxi. no public bus is passing by..

Appreciate the traditional leather-making craft in the ancient city of Fez
The Chouara Tannery in the ancient city of Fez, Morocco, is the most famous leather workshop in the city. As the most representative leather-making center in Morocco, it attracts travelers and art lovers from all over the world.
This ancient tannery showcases Morocco's long-standing leather craft tradition, not only exuding a strong historical atmosphere, but also taking people into a magical and fascinating world of leather. Here, the traditional leather craft is passed down from generation to generation by skilled craftsmen, preserving hundreds of years of history and techniques. The traditional manufacturing process has been continued for thousands of years and has hardly been changed by modernization. It is very worth visiting just for its tradition.
Stepping into the Chouara Tannery, you are greeted by dazzling colored leather, neatly arranged and sun-dried, like a brilliant and colorful scroll. Viewers can experience the entire process of making leather. In addition to watching the production process, the Chouara Tannery also offers a series of handmade leather goods for tourists to choose from. From gorgeous saddlery to exquisite bags, from traditional Moroccan shoes to finely carved leather relics, it is also a good place to choose souvenirs.
Fes has to watch the world's second-largest Tannery~~ (the world's first in India, the world's third in Turkey)
visitors can't go to the leather dyeing house to visit, can only see workers from the roof of the surrounding stores They dip the leather process.
Under the leadership of the local brother, we walked into a leather workshop. He specially grabbed a mint leaf for everyone to ease the pungent smell of "smelly egg", and then began to climb the stairs. Let us explain the process of leather production.
Fez, the birthplace of Moroccan handmade art, is famous for its leather production. The hand-made craftsmanship, the dyeing raw materials are pure natural, and the colorful dyeing tanks are like a complete drawing board. It would be a pity if you don't go to the leather workshop. Fes used to be divided according to different industries, so the tannery dyeing workshops also gathered in one place, through the labyrinth of twists and turns, when the more and more pungent smell came, the handmade leather workshop also almost there. The boss will send a mint leaf to each person, so that everyone can put it in front of the nose to reduce the odor of the leather, otherwise it is difficult to breathe.
Fist Now, the Fiss dye house still uses the ancient method of dyeing - in order to make the leather present the color of natural plants, retaining the traditional hand-made leather and natural drying. Soak in lime water and soften the skin. The leather is then placed in a dyeing tank and dyed with pure natural materials such as plants and ore. After repeated treading and washing and drying, it takes several months to complete a bright color leather.
National Leather's leather dyeing tank is a popular attraction in Fes. If you want to see this attraction, you need to go through the leather shop to the top floor terrace. There is no charge for the leather shop. You will need to visit the store at that time. Go shopping, take time to listen to them selling their handmade carpets, its really nice to see, and people with a uniform style of home decoration can take a back home.
From the top floor, you can see hundreds of thousands of large stone sarcophagi distributed in the middle of high-rise residential areas, some of which have been cleaned and empty, only a small part is still working, and the increasingly developed printing and dyeing technology Sooner or later, this manual operation will be replaced. It is a pity that if this skill disappears one day.
Colorful dyes are natural colors. Pigeon dung, cow urine and animal fat are mixed together to heat the leather. Workers put the leather in the dyeing tank or take it out of the dyeing tank. How can we endure this smell, the smell of the leather shop is a bit big, the boss handed me a mint branch, and the smell of the mint branch will be much weaker.
standing on the top floor, looking at the bright daylight, the old city is so real in the sun, the minaret in the distance is ringing in prayer, echoing in the ancient city, long and meaningful.
like this exotic country, this is the taste of travel.

Restaurant Palais Ismailia is located at N°6 Bab Belkari Moulay Ismail, Meknes 50060, Morocco. It is open daily from 1030-2000, and is around 30 kilometers 38 minutes from Volubilis. These are the few restaurants that the tour group buses that will bring you.
The restaurant had a rooftop sitting and the staff were very friendly, they will explain the food details to you, but the prices are slightly expensive.
I had ordered the Pastilla set, which includes Moroccan salad, soup, pastilla, and dessert.
Pastilla is a North Africa meat or seafood pie made with warqa dough, it is a specialty of Morocco and Algeria.
The pastilla served tasted sweet, because of the white sugar powder, the meat inside is juicy.

Meknes was a military city built by Mullah in the 11th century, and became the national capital (1672-1727) during the reign of the Alawite dynasty, Sultan Moulay Isma. Sudan has built Meknes into a majestic Spanish-Moorish-style city surrounded by high walls and huge doors. Even today, we can still see that this is a 17th-century Maghreb Islamic and European style. Harmonious unity. *
Meknes on the way to Chefchaouen to Fes, you can have a short stay for half a day, or you can stay for one night. Babman Sulmen is in the heart of the old city, and there is a parking lot in the nearby square, from which you can travel to other attractions. The funny thing is that because the homework was not done well, we took a photo for a long time on the inside of the door. However, the more beautiful side of the gate is on the side of the street, but the side is crowded and it is difficult to take pictures slowly. There is a lot of structures like small chimneys on the open space at
kara prison. These are the natural lighting design of Kara prison. There are some exhibitions in the prison, but there is almost no visibility. In the dark underground, feel the feeling of being imprisoned in ancient times. However, tickets are only 10DH.
The Maid Square opposite Harding Square is home to the Medersa Bou Inania, a unique building of the Marinid dynasty. The interior carvings are also exquisite and suitable for love. Take a photo of the young lady and take some time.

5 THINGS YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT MOROCCO 🇲🇦 😍
The Sahara Desert, bazaars and souks are the perfect place to get lost 😍 Along the way you‘ll find many amazing animals and friendly people 🐪 🐍🐒 Our Morocco road trip felt like the perfect adventure without being too adventurous if you understand what I mean 😅
Here are our highlights to help you plan your trip:
🗺️ Places to visit / Things to do:
We did an amazing road trip in the following order:
1.Chefchaouen - the blue city 💙 You’ll find many cats here 🐈
2.Fes -Make sure to visit the local tanneries but be prepared for the worst smell 🙈
3.Ouzoud - You can see wild monkeys here🐒
4.Marrakesh - Stay in a traditional riad in the Medina for at least 2-3 days
5.Ait Ben Haddou - This ancient city was in sooo many movies already 🐪
6.Sahara Desert - We stayed at Sahara Luxury Camp (dogs allowed) right in the desert 🏜️
7.Dades Gorge - The nature looks stunning here 🌳
8.Taghazout - The perfect place to go surfing 🏄♂️
9.Essaouira - If you‘re lucky you can spot goats that climb into trees to eat the fruits 🐐 It looks very funny 😄
10.Casablanca 🌈
🚗 How to get around
Rent a car or bring your own vehicle 😁 We took the ferry from Algericas in Spain to Morocco (only 30 minutes) ⛴️ Always carry 2 wallets when you are on the road because the corrupt police will stop you all the time. In one wallet you can carry all of your valuables and the other one just has a little bit of cash inside to give away when the Police asks for it (they usually ask for a lot but if you show your almost empty wallet and say you don‘t have more they will accept it) 😅
⏰ Best time to visit
During the cooler months when it‘s not too hot ☀️ We visited during November and usually had around 20-25°C. cr:wanderlust_samoyed& Contact us for removal
The Blue City of Morocco
Getting There - There are many tours that charge £50-£60 online. However there is a location where ‘big taxis’ that go long journeys are located near CTM bus station in rout de tetoun. Big Taxis which are 7 seaters that costs £6pp one way. They collect the money beforehand and it takes about 2 hours to get there.
Attractions - the blue city is an attraction itself, there is no fee to enter you just walk in and roam around. There are waterfalls located here too.
Hotels - N/A
Food & Restaurants - There are many restaurants and food here, you can find all kinds of Moroccan food and some restaurants have an upstairs if you want a view. There are also restaurants near the river and waterfalls.
Shopping - The whole of Chefchouen has street vendors selling clothes, gifts and souvenirs you can buy and haggle.
I really enjoyed this place but i have to warn you than the journey here has great views but the lack of straight roads may require you to take sickness pills as its very mountainous.
You can spend as much time as you want here but for me 3-4 hours was enough. #chefchaoen #morocco #tanger #tangier
Cafe Restaurant Rahmouni
Cafe Restaurant Rahmouni is located in Av. Hassan II, 91000 Chefchaouen, Morocco, is open daily from 0900-0030.
The restaurant offers the best variety of local and international cuisine, and has a balcony sitting overlooking the nature of the blue city at decent price.
Friendly staff approach and greet you when you just come in the restaurant, and customers are free to sit anywhere.
I had ordered a shrimp tagine and a banana shake. Tagine is a Moroccan cooking vessel that is conical in shape and acts as a slow cooker. Traditionally, tagine is both the pot and the food that is cooked in it and uses Moroccan bread to scope up the meat, vegetables and sauce. Normally, chicken, beef and lamb are common meats used in tagine cooking.
Banana shake is not so cold, but the shrimp tagine taste nice, when you soak your bread into it.
Plaza Uta el Hamman
Plaza Uta el Hamman is the main square of the medina of Chefchaouen, this wonderful square is a great place to just bask and explore, it is filled with restaurants, souvenir shops and sidewalk cafes some with a terrace ( rooftop ) sitting and comfortable places to just relax.
The Grand Mosque of Chefchaouen, which the minaret has an octagonal shaft, is the oldest mosque in the area, occupies an area of around 130 square meters. ( Only Muslim can enter the building)
The incredible kasbah construction date in 1471, once a fortress protecting the area, featuring towers, many arches, domes and passageways to explore.

Volubilis Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Roman City
#celebratewithtrip
After Chefchaouen, I will now proceed to Fes, on the way will stop at Volubilis, a partially excavated Roman archaeological site around 165 kilometers 170 minutes drive from Chefchaouen.
Volubilis under Roman rule from the 1st century BC, it is surrounded by walls with perimeter 2.6 kilometers. In the 2nd century, the city was endowed with a number of public buildings, notably a basilica, a temple and an arch of triumph.
The ruins remained practically intact until they were razed by the 1755 earthquake ( the one at Lisbon ).
In the late 19th century, the site was named as the ancient city of Volubilis, many mosaics were discovered, part of the important buildings restored or rebuilt.
The ruins have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Volubilis is open daily from 0830- 1830, with a 70 dirhams entrance fee.
Volibulis
The city of Volubilis is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to the largest and most well preserved Roman ruins in Morocco
Fes, Meknes and Valrubilis, the position just formed a triangle, known as Morocco's "World Heritage Golden Triangle."
Varobilis has been a Phoenician colony in the 3rd century BC and has developed exceptionally well under the control of the Roman Empire. Today, it is one of the world's cultural heritage of the United Nations. It is a model of the colonial towns of the Roman Empire and has a high historical value.
