Shaanxi Spring Self-Driving Route: Traverse the Qinling Mountains to Enjoy Flowers and Explore Secrets
This is a treasured spring self-driving route running north to south through the Qinling Mountains in Shaanxi, connecting the Guanzhong Plain and the Hanzhong Basin. It crosses four areas: Huyi District of Xi’an City, Foping County, Yang County, and Hantai District of Hanzhong City, blending wildflowers, ancient trail charm, ecological secrets, and rustic nostalgia into one.
[Taiping National Forest Park]
Located in Taipingyu, Huyi District, Xi’an City, at the northern foot of the Qinling Mountains where spring awakens the mountains. The park features clusters of waterfalls, each with its own charm—Xianhe Bridge, Jade Belt, Jiao Dragon, and Yanxia waterfalls—shrouded in mist reflecting the spring sun; the hills are covered with blooming redbud trees, swaying like waves in the wind, filling the valley with fragrance. It is a healing secret realm where forest waterfalls and mountain flowers coexist.
[Cai Jiapo Village Century-Old Apricot Orchard]
Situated in Group 6, Caijiapo Village, Shijing Street, Huyi District. The robust apricot trees, over a hundred years old, bloom like snow with layers of pink and white flowers scattered among the green fields; beneath the trees, green grass spreads for picnics, with views of the Qinling peaks and the sounds of birds and wind, offering a relaxed mountain atmosphere and peaceful springtime.
[Foping Panda Valley Scenic Area]
Located 20 kilometers north of Foping County, Hanzhong City, it combines the quiet, beautiful, and unique landscapes of the Qinling Mountains and is known as the "China Forest Oxygen Bar." In spring, 100,000 mu of cornelian cherry trees cover the hills in golden yellow. Clear streams and dense forests provide a habitat to observe wild giant pandas resting lazily, while also learning about the Qinling Four Treasures and other rare animals through educational exhibits.
[Foping Old Street]
Paved with bluestone and featuring well-arranged Hui-style architecture, the shimmering Jiaoxi River flows nearby, and the spring breeze carries the fragrance of cornelian cherry blossoms. Spring farmhouse dishes include fresh bamboo shoots, shepherd’s purse, and purslane, full of rustic flavor; at night, strolling the old street blends folk warmth with mountain poetry.
[Yang County Crested Ibis Pear Orchard Scenic Area]
Located at the foot of Niutou Mountain in Yang County, tens of thousands of mu of pear blossoms resemble clouds and snow, interwoven with fields of rapeseed flowers to form a sea of white and yellow flowers. The scenery changes with every step, like a fairyland. Known as the "Hometown of the Crested Ibis in China," it is also a vivid example of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
[Changqing Huayang Scenic Area]
Hidden in the heart of the Qinling Mountains along the ancient Tangluo Trail, a thousand-year-old post station. Houses with blue tiles and white walls line the creek, with ancient bridges and flowing water marked by mossy traces. In spring, cornelian cherry blossoms bloom in golden clusters along riverbanks and field ridges, with clear bird songs and breezes through the treetops, bringing a raw and wild charm.
[Shimen Plank Road Scenic Area]
A convergence of plank road culture, Baoguo culture, history from the Han and Three Kingdoms periods, and the cliff carvings known as the "Thirteen Styles of Shimen." The ancient plank road runs along the mountain by the river, with peach blossoms and willows in green, mountains and clear water reflecting each other. Every step reveals a new scene, where nature and rich culture tell a long story.
[Huangtang Water Town Scenic Area]
Located in Laojun Town, Hantai District, it is the main venue for the 2024 Hanzhong Rapeseed Flower Festival. The flat and open golden flower sea spreads freely, interspersed with peach, pear, and plum blossoms. Clear pond water reflects the village and clouds, with bright colors and poetic charm.
