If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise! But let me assure you, it’s a pleasant surprise! Taking a stroll out of Freshfields train station, cutting in through Formby Golf Course, you’ll find several paths that you can follow. We took the Fisherman’s Path route. Along this trail, we’re treated to the Pinewoods experience - and it doesn’t disappoint. England was once a wilderness, and this trail gives a taste of what life was like here in the millennia before humans took hold. The trees give off a sense of authority and stature. The wildlife is in abundance, thriving in an area that is just a short’s stones throw from the urban conurbations of Liverpool, Southport and Manchester. There’s a few hidden gems as well, like the Ainsdale Totem which has been constructed near a rest area. The walks and trails available here in Freshfield and the Formby areas are relaxing and are good for the soul.
