Munich 4-5 Days Special Forces Route (All Public Transport)
Use monthly pass throughout, pay attention to vehicle return times, major transport is night train
Day 1 Neuschwanstein Castle P2-3
Train: RB68 to Fussen, transfer to bus 78/73 or 9606 to arrive.
On sunny days, the train route passes through large villages and meadows, very scenic P2
Bus: bus 996 from Pasing to Neuschwanstein Castles, Hohenschwangau (this line seems to operate only on weekends, check carefully before taking)
If you want to visit the castle, you need to book well in advance; if not visiting, it’s okay.
Going up the mountain: 1️⃣ hike according to the map 2️⃣ horse carriage 3️⃣ walk forward from the castle ticket office where you can book, there is a bus option for round trip or one way, cash payment required
Day 2 Zugspitze and Eibsee Lake + Starnberger See P4-7
1️⃣ Zugspitze and Eibsee Lake P4-6
Train: Take RB6 or RB60 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, then transfer to Bus 9840 to the cable car station at the foot of the mountain / near Eibsee Lake
⚠️ If the bus stop near the train station is too crowded and you can’t get on, you can go to the previous stop Rathaus (not too far from the train station)
I didn’t go up the mountain, but taking photos and enjoying the scenery near Eibsee Lake is also very nice
You can take a photo with Zugspitze at Frillensee (photo 6)
2️⃣ Starnberg P7
On the same train line to Zugspitze, you can get off midway to visit; Starnberg station exits right to the lake.
The ice cream at the station entrance is very delicious, but I went late so the lake wasn’t as beautiful.
Day 3 City Center P8-10
Town Hall, Munich Residenz, Memorial Column, various churches not listed one by one.
⚠️ Highly recommended: 1️⃣ Nymphenburg Palace P9 (If the weather is good, you’ll want to spend the whole afternoon watching swans and the lake) P9
2️⃣ Sculpture Museum (many sculptures, can view closely)
3️⃣ Bavarian Palace Museum (starting from the museum exterior, whether children’s toys, clothing, furniture, or musical instruments, all are luxurious and exquisite) (too many pictures to fit the museum)
⚠️ If you want to be like me, a special forces traveler, you can visit during the museum’s long night event, sightseeing by day, museum by night, with many performances inside.
Or choose to visit on Sunday when tickets are 1 euro.
Day 4 Salzburg + Chiemsee Lake
Train: BRB RE5 (included in the German monthly pass)
1️⃣ Pass by Chiemsee on the same line, get off at Prien am Chiemsee, 20 minutes walk to the lake P11-14
Buy tickets at the ticket office to visit Herreninsel (Gentlemen’s Island), which has lake and island, with meadows, gardens, and a palace. The palace imitates Versailles P13, very magnificent, no photos allowed inside, separate ticket required for palace tour and museum. (About 3 hours to visit)
2️⃣ Return to the station and continue to Salzburg, walk the entire way from the train station P15-18
Mirabell Palace, Mozart’s birthplace, churches, museums, Love Lock Bridge, St. Peter’s Cemetery, and Hohensalzburg Fortress.
The fortress summit offers especially good views overlooking the whole city.
But the salt warehouse game no longer has fridge magnets, I only got Mozart chocolate.
Day 5 Königssee
If you have enough time, you can stay one night in Salzburg; from here you can take bus 840 directly to Königssee.
