Hooker Valley Track - Mount Cook Hiking Route
Compared to the Tasman hiking route, this one takes about 4 hours round trip.
While Tasman has a beautiful endpoint, Hooker Valley offers more stunning scenery along the way!
From the entrance, you will pass three suspension bridges.
After crossing the second bridge, the view becomes more expansive.
Mount Cook seems to be right in front of you, paired with the golden grasslands bathed in sunlight—it's truly breathtaking.
I think the best spot for photos is between the second and third bridges.
Although the route is longer, with stops for photos, it feels like just over two hours.
Also, remember to use the restroom at the trail entrance!

🇳🇿 Stunning Lupin Flowers📍Lake Tekapo 🇳🇿
During our road trip across New Zealand's South Island, we were fortunate to witness the lupin flowers in full bloom along the shores of Lake Tekapo. Although lupin flowers are not native to New Zealand and are even considered an invasive species, they have become an iconic part of the Lake Tekapo landscape. Lupin flowers typically bloom in late spring and early summer, carpeting the riverbanks, roadsides, and lakeshores with stunning hues of purple, pink, blue, and white.

🇳🇿 Lupin Flowers in Full Bloom📍Lake Tekapo
We were delighted to witness the beautiful lupin flowers in full bloom when we visited Lake Tekapo on New Zealand's South Island in late November. The lupin flowers around Lake Tekapo are a breathtaking sight, especially during late spring and early summer (November to January). These vibrant, colorful flowers create vast, picturesque fields along the lake's shoreline, framed by the turquoise waters of Lake Tekapo and the distant Southern Alps.

The scenery in New Zealand can heal all the melancholy in life.
Organize the feelings from New Zealand. A 14-day trip to New Zealand is like falling into Alice's garden.
March-May is the autumn in the southern hemisphere. At this time, New Zealand has colorful colors, and the scenery flows between different towns and regions. The snow-capped peaks of Mount Cook in the distance, the layered yellow maple forest in the town...
The entire itinerary is mainly concentrated in the South Island of New Zealand. The towns and regions surrounded by nature in autumn all have their own characteristics, refreshing our perception of the scenery for those who are used to living in the city. Even the original camera of the mobile phone can take the color of the reversal film. The blue here is the color set by God for this.
▪️Kaikoura
Whale watching is our biggest expectation in the itinerary. Seeing whales jumping out of the sea is a wish that existed in adolescence. The whale watching boat sailed into the deep blue sea, and was surprised to see the moment that has always been remembered.
Kaikoura Peninsula Trail is a hiking route I like very much. Here you can overlook the coastline, and there are lazy seals and sea lions sunbathing on the distant reefs. From the seaside to the top of the mountain pasture, the scenery changes with each step, and the scenery in the oil painting is probably like this.
▪️Wanaka
Arriving in Wanaka is a sunny afternoon, lying on the lounge chair on the apartment terrace and drowsy. At night by the lake with only moonlight left, he played with the slide in the park, as if he had returned to his childhood. This is our story in the beautiful town.
Take a walk by Lake Wanaka in the early morning, the lake is bluer than the sky, reflecting the distant snow-capped mountains, groups of three or two people walking and chatting, and people passing by us from time to time, jogging, walking dogs, riding bicycles... The ducks by the lake are all walking leisurely, feeling the relaxation of Wanaka.
▪️Queenstown
The TSS Earnslaw is the only steamship still in operation in the southern hemisphere, as old as the Titanic. Get on the boat on Lake Wakatipu and head to the Walter Peak Mountain Farm on the opposite bank for dinner. Along the way, there are the colorful autumn scenery of Queenstown. Sitting on the deck, the boat slowly sails, feeling the old romance. There is also a commemorative wooden steamship refrigerator sticker on the ship, which is very delicate.
The farm also has a wool shearing performance, and the family strolls around the cute little sheep's peripheral shop, which is so good that it almost missed the return ship... In the farm surrounded by mountains and lakes, watching the golden sunset and the blue coast, it’s just beautiful to be in a daze~
▪️Hobbiton™ Movie Set
The North Island has rich geothermal landscapes and Maori culture. What impressed me most was Hobbiton. The "Lord of the Rings" and other series of movies were filmed here. There are scattered hobbit huts on the hillside, and there are smoking chimneys on the roof, as if entering the story in the movie.
Looking at the photos of New Zealand, I still feel the breath of every beautiful scenery. I want to go back and take a walk in the town~

💖Overview of attractions
✔️Fox Glacier: Fox Glacier is the most accessible glacier in the world, with a length of 13 kilometers and is located in Taiputini National Park, New Zealand. Tucked into the forested foothills of the Alps, the cozy town of Fox Glacier is a great choice for glacier walks, flight activities and scenic excursions.
✔️Milford Sound: Milford Sound means "the first wild thrush" in Maori. It is the largest and most famous fjord in New Zealand's Fiordland National Park. The river extends 22 kilometers inland. The fjord water surface intersects with the mountain cliff vertically, and the glacier is cut into a V-shaped cross section. Milford Sound has a number of day cruises and all-inclusive overnight trips, with underwater viewing, diving and kayaking being the most popular activities. ❄️
✔️Oamaru Blue Penguin Habitat: Blue penguins are a type of blue penguin unique to New Zealand. In Oamaru, tourists can get up close and personal with these cute little penguins. Every evening, groups of blue penguins gather offshore to wait for dark, then swim under the stands on the shore, climb up the steep shore, rest for a while on the top of the rock wall, and then return to their habitat across the viewing area.
✔️Aoraki Mount Cook National Park: Aoraki Mount Cook National Park has New Zealand’s highest mountain and longest glacier. This is a pure alpine world composed of steep peaks, huge glaciers and permanent snowfields. Discover many pleasures on your alpine walks, including beautiful alpine lakes, vast meadows and spectacular glacial views. If you are lucky, you may meet the funny kea.
✔️Tekapo: Located between Christchurch and Queenstown, the entire Lake Tekapo is jewel-like turquoise and the scenery is dreamy. The small town of Tekapo has a "Dark Sky Reserve" covering an area of 4,300 square kilometers, spanning the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, and is world-famous for being able to watch New Zealand's brightest starry sky. The best stargazing spot in the town is at the Shepherd's Church on the edge of Lake Tekapo. Looking up at the night sky, your eyes are filled with stars, and you feel like you are trapped in the stars, like a dream.
☀️In New Zealand, a land known as the "Pure Land", self-driving is undoubtedly the most romantic way to travel. Imagine driving your car through glaciers, lakes, green fields and volcanoes. Every frame is a postcard-level scenery. This is not only a trip, but also a baptism of the soul and an intimate dialogue with nature.

A must-experience checklist for New Zealand, only after these can you say you've been to New Zealand
🌟 Highlights: Spectacular fjords and glaciers, beautiful and magical beaches, indigenous Maori culture, and fairy-tale-like lakes and mountains... If you're in the mood, add a dash of courage, and you can challenge yourself at the birthplace of bungee jumping. This is New Zealand, the 'Middle-earth' of the movie The Hobbit, a must-visit destination on countless people's travel lists.
❤ Recommended Reason: Stargazing in the Aoraki Mackenzie Dark Sky Reserve, bathing in the brilliant Milky Way of the Southern Hemisphere! New Zealand's South Island is designated as an International Dark Sky Reserve, the largest of its kind in the world. The Dark Sky Reserve includes most of the area around Tekapo and Mount Cook, and is rated as 'one of the best stargazing sites on Earth.' Have a spiritual conversation with the universe under the clear and pristine dark sky, and feel this unparalleled romance and the stunningly beautiful scenery that seems like a fairyland.
👍 Most Recommended: Lake Tekapo
The first image many people recognize of New Zealand is the Church of the Good Shepherd bathed in starlight under a dazzling starry sky, with clusters of lupins blooming quietly. Lake Tekapo, with its high altitude and dry climate, boasts the highest sunshine rate in New Zealand, making it especially suitable for stargazing.
👍 Most Recommended: Queenstown
Queenstown is not only a paradise for extreme sports but also an easy place to stargaze. In the evening, take the Queenstown Skyline Gondola to the top of Queenstown Hill, and you can overlook the town of Queenstown as the lights come on. An inadvertent glance upward reveals a sky bathed in brilliant stars.
👍 Most Recommended: Mount Cook
Besides the popular stargazing by Lake Tekapo, many photographers also recommend Mount Cook for stargazing. Mount Cook is a paradise for hikers, with multiple hiking trails that take you into the glaciers and snow-capped mountains of Mount Cook. Far from towns and with less light pollution, the majestic Mount Cook makes the starry sky atmosphere even more serene and spectacular.
👍 Most Recommended: Stewart Island
Officially rated as the world's fifth International Dark Sky Reserve and the second island reserve. It is uninhabited and closest to Antarctica, so the sky is exceptionally pure.

I saw all kinds of beautiful scenery, pure starry sky, blue glaciers, flowers all over the mountains, dreamy and magical firefly caves, various magnificent landscapes of forests, wilderness, snow mountains and fjords, 9-11 months are the spring and summer of the southern hemisphere in New Zealand, just the opposite of our autumn here, the weather is slightly warm, flowers are blooming, really super recommended!

New Zealand is divided into the North and South Islands. The city scenery of the North Island is relatively more, with Auckland Sky Tower, Hobbiton; the natural scenery of the South Island really shocks people! There are famous Mount Cook, Franz Josef Glacier, Lake Wanaka, Good Shepherd Church Milford Sound. In addition, Queenstown is also here, it is a paradise for extreme sports~ Dunedin Church and Christchurch are also famous destinations, Christchurch is known as the garden city, people say it is "the city most like Britain outside Britain"
Queenstown
Queenstown, a beautiful town surrounded by the Southern Alps, can almost be said to be the business card of New Zealand tourism~ Located on the north shore of New Zealand's Lake Wakatipu, adjacent to the former gold mining area-Arrow Town, there are still remnants of Chinese gold mining in New Zealand-Chinese Village, countless travelers are attracted by its natural scenery, and many extreme sports enthusiasts will also come here specially,
Bungee jumping, skydiving! Enjoy the beauty of Queenstown
Fox Glacier
Rated by CNN as "50 Places to Go in Life"! The glacier in the Southern Alps, you can experience glacier hiking, natural ice cave exploration, this is really fun! But pay attention to cold protection and warmth, it is best to be led by professional personnel and wear professional equipment!
Lake Wanaka
Lake Wanaka on the South Island of New Zealand, famous for a lone tree in the lake, has attracted countless photographers and artists. Tourists can also come here for fishing, picnicking, and walking, enjoying the beautiful scenery and the quiet moment, even if you do nothing, just quietly appreciate, you can be well healed here.
Good Shepherd Church:
It is a church named after a sculpture of a shepherd dog, which is a tribute to the shepherd dogs who helped open up the farmland area in the past, which is very commemorative~ And it is a unique Gothic wooden stone structure building, which can be said to be unique in New Zealand. Looking out from the window of the church altar, you can also see the magnificent scenery of the Southern Alps, many newlyweds will choose to get married here!

God first created New Zealand, then created heaven in its image!
Mount Cook National Park, an hour's journey from Lake Tekapo, is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, which are super spectacular! After a 20-minute walk, I was shocked when I saw the glacier!
The god of nature in New Zealand must have used 90% of his miraculous work to carve Mount Cook National Park. The mountains are spectacular and towering into the clouds, the glaciers are blue and green, and I gaze at the waterfall where the snow melts in the distance. Really, other than wow, I can't think of any words to describe my mood at the time.
Blue penguins return to their nests, watch at close range, and there are small seals on the shore. Blue penguins are very small, they will return to their nests in groups in batches, very cute.
Guys, the scenery in New Zealand is absolutely beautiful, every shot is a blockbuster! Pure starry sky, blue glaciers, flowers all over the mountains, dreamy and magical firefly caves, various grand views of forests, wilderness, snow mountains and fjords... If you don't come once in your life, you will really regret it!

🇳🇿 Lake Tekapo,New Zealand for stargazing🌟
#wheretogo
When we heard of Lake Tekapo, New Zealand, only two things came into our minds - stargazing and hotspring. This spot is very photogenic both day and night. It is also art of a UNESCO Dark Sky Reserve, making it the perfect spot for stargazing. During the day, we looked from the beautiful Church of the Good Shepherd across the turquoise coloured lake to the mountainous drama of the Southern Alps. The scenery was stunning!I would advised to get there early in the morning as crowds started to come in the late morning. The legendary night sky in Lake Tekapo offers the perfect opprtunity to spot stars. It is something that we can hardly do in other countries.#timetotravel #newzealand #stargazing

New Zealand's Stunning Scenic Pinnacle - Mount Cook.
📍Mount Cook
.
The most popular route at Mount Cook is the Hooker Valley Track.
Because the route is simple and the scenery is beautiful.
The tour I joined offered many optional activities.
We opted for a helicopter experience midway,
so we couldn't complete the entire Hooker Valley Track,
only covering about 1/3 of the route.
But it was already breathtaking!
The lake water was crystal clear, complemented by the snow-capped mountains,
like a fairyland 🥰🥰
.
Many people ask me whether New Zealand or Switzerland has more beautiful scenery.
It's really hard to choose.
For me, both places are worth visiting!
They both offer some of the world's most stunning landscapes 🩵🤍🩵

New Zealand's Tasman Glacier: A Place Frozen in Time!
Here is a guide to Tasman Glacier:
Preparation:
Documents: Make sure you have a valid New Zealand visa and passport or other travel documents.
Clothing and equipment:
Warm clothing, such as down jackets, outdoor jackets, thermal underwear, etc. Although the temperature on the glacier is not extremely cold, you still need to keep warm.
Waterproof pants and shoes, as there may be melting snow in the area near the glacier.
Sunglasses, as the sunlight on the glacier is strong, and wearing sunglasses can protect your eyes.
Sunscreen, as the ultraviolet rays are strong in high-altitude areas, and you need to apply sunscreen to prevent sunburn.
Gloves, hats, scarves, etc., to keep your head and hands warm.
Photography equipment: Prepare cameras, mobile phones, and other photography equipment to capture the magnificent scenery of the glacier, but be sure to protect your equipment from the cold to prevent it from affecting performance.
Other items: Prepare an appropriate amount of food and water to replenish energy. Bring a light backpack to carry items. If you are going on a glacier hike, it is recommended to bring a small first aid kit.
Transportation:
Self-driving: If you are driving in New Zealand, you can navigate to Mount Cook National Park, where Tasman Glacier is located. It takes about 3–4 hours to drive from Christchurch. The scenery along the way is also very beautiful, but be sure to drive safely, especially on mountain roads.
Public transportation: You can take a long-distance bus to a town near Mount Cook, and then transfer to local transportation or join a tour group to Tasman Glacier. This option is relatively economical, but the travel time may be longer and less convenient.
Ways to play:
Helicopter tour: Take a helicopter to overlook the full view of Tasman Glacier from the air and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the glacier and the surrounding mountains and lakes. This is a very exciting and unique experience, but the price is relatively high. Helicopter tours usually last 30–60 minutes, and you can choose different flight routes and durations.
Glacier hiking: This is a way to get closer to Tasman Glacier and experience the charm of the glacier firsthand. Led by a professional guide, you can wear crampons and other equipment, walk on the glacier, and explore the unique glacier landscapes such as ice caves and ice towers. Glacier hiking requires a certain amount of physical strength and endurance, and the trip usually lasts 2–4 hours. You need to book in advance and learn about the relevant precautions.
Boat tour: Take a boat tour on Lake Tasman to enjoy the spectacular view of the glacier extending from the lake and the icebergs floating on the lake. This option is relatively relaxing and suitable for travelers who do not want to engage in strenuous activities.
Best time to visit:
New Zealand's summer (December–February) is the peak tourist season, with warmer weather and faster glacier melting. You may see more glacier meltwater and unique glacier landscapes, but there are also more tourists.
In winter (June–August), the temperature is lower, and the glacier is relatively more stable, but the weather is colder, so you need to keep warm. Spring and autumn (March–May, September–November) have moderate temperatures and are also good times to visit Tasman Glacier.
Safety precautions:
Whether you are taking a helicopter tour or glacier hiking, you must strictly follow the instructions and requirements of the staff, especially when taking a helicopter. Fasten your seat belt and follow the pilot's instructions.
The terrain on the glacier is complex, with many crevices and ice caves. During hiking, you must follow the guide closely and not leave the group without permission to avoid danger.
Due to glacier melting and movement, there may be dangers such as falling rocks. Pay attention to your surroundings and stay alert.
High-altitude areas may cause altitude sickness. Learn about the relevant coping measures in advance. If you experience any discomfort, inform the staff in time.

New Zealand under the aurora.
Traveling in New Zealand under the aurora is a dreamy and unforgettable experience. Here is some related information:
1. Best time to watch:
- The aurora in New Zealand is the southern aurora, which is usually the highest probability of seeing in winter (June to August). The night is longer during this time, and the sky is clearer, providing good conditions for the appearance of the aurora.
- However, on some nights in spring and autumn (March to May, September to November), if the solar activity is strong, it is also possible to see the aurora.
2. Best viewing location:
- South Island:
- Lake Tekapo: This is one of the most famous aurora viewing spots in New Zealand. The terrain around Lake Tekapo is open, the lake is clear and calm, and when the aurora appears in the night sky, it will be reflected on the lake, forming a beautiful symmetrical picture. And there is less light pollution, which can provide excellent viewing vision.
- Dunedin: Located in the southeast of the South Island of New Zealand, its long coastline provides a unique background for viewing the aurora. On the beach in Dunedin, you can watch the southern aurora dancing in the night sky while listening to the sound of the waves, feeling the magic and romance of nature.
- Stewart Island: The third largest island in New Zealand and a paradise away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There is almost no light pollution here, and the stars and aurora are particularly bright. The island also has rich natural landscapes. During the day, you can go hiking and other activities, and wait for the arrival of the aurora at night.
- Christchurch: Some areas near Christchurch, such as Birdlings Flat and Porthills, are also good places to watch the aurora. When the aurora appears, you can enjoy the colorful light shining in the night sky in these places.
3. **
- Itinerary arrangement:
- If you have plenty of time, you can arrange a South Island tour, combining aurora viewing with other attractions. For example, starting from Christchurch, go to Lake Tekapo for a few days, wait for the appearance of the aurora, and enjoy the surrounding scenery, such as the Good Shepherd Church; then go to Queenstown to experience various exciting outdoor activities, such as bungee jumping, skydiving, etc.; then go to Dunedin to feel the cultural atmosphere of this historic city; finally return to Christchurch.
- If you have limited time, you can choose to go directly to the city near the aurora viewing spot, such as Christchurch or Dunedin, and then participate in the local aurora viewing group, so that you can more easily find the best viewing position, and have a professional guide to explain the aurora Related knowledge.
- Accommodation selection:
- In Lake Tekapo, Dunedin and other aurora viewing spots, there are various types of accommodation to choose from, including hotels, homestays and campsites. If you want to better appreciate the aurora, you can choose to live in a homestay by the lake or the sea, so that you can watch the aurora directly outside the room or in the yard at night.
- If you choose to camp, be sure to pay attention to warmth and safety, bring enough warm equipment and food, and choose a safe camping location to avoid dangerous areas such as rivers or cliffs.
- Other preparations:
- Warm clothing: The night in New Zealand is very cold, especially when watching the aurora, you may need to stay outdoors for a long time, so be sure to bring enough warm clothing, such as down jackets, thermal underwear, hats, gloves, scarves, etc.
- Photography equipment: If you want to shoot the aurora, you need to bring professional photography equipment, such as SLR cameras, SLR cameras, and door lines. At the same time, you need to master certain photography skills, such as setting long exposure, adjusting aperture and sensitivity, etc., to take satisfactory photos.
- Aurora monitoring tools: Download some aurora monitoring APPs, pay attention to the KP index of the aurora, so as to keep abreast of the appearance and intensity of the aurora.
