This was our first experience seeing snow in person. We chose Kashmir because it's Muslim-friendly and the prices were affordable. Let me share a little about our private trip to Kashmir. Day 1 We departed from Jakarta on Sri Lanka Air to New Delhi, with full service and 30kg of baggage allowance. We transited in Sri Lanka for 4 hours, with nothing to do but rest and recharge our phones while waiting for our next flight. Day 2 We arrived in New Delhi at 4:00 AM, picked up our luggage, and checked in again for Kashmir. Upon arrival in Kashmir, we were met by the driver we had booked. We had planned to buy a local SIM card, but registration was difficult, so we decided against it. From the airport, we headed straight to Gulmarg before checking in. We stopped by Drung Waterfall. During the journey, snow had begun to appear, although it wasn't yet thick. We stopped by a rental shop to buy thick jackets and a booth for the next day's skydiving. Day 3 Today's activities included a gondola ride and skydiving. The queue for the gondola ride was very long, so we used a tour guide so we didn't have to wait too long. Day 4 Today we checked out of the Guarrg Hotel and checked in at our hotel in Srinagar. Before checking in, we visited Dal Lake and rode a shikara around the lake. Our driver also took us to his home and introduced us to his family. There, we were treated to typical Kashmiri food and drinks. It turns out the local Kashmiris are as warm as they are to tourists. Day 5 Today we visited Sonmargh. The journey from Srinagar to Sonmargh is a three-hour journey. The scenery along the way was beautiful, especially upon arrival at Sonmargh, nicknamed "Different World." We enjoyed snow biking there. The weather was quite sunny with temperatures down to -11°F (-11°C). We wore double jackets, but because it was an outdoor activity, it still felt very cold. There are also jackets and booths for rent in Sonmargh if needed. Day 6 This was our last day in Kashmir. After checking out, we visited Pahalgam before being transferred to the airport. In Pahalgam, we went horseback riding.

Riding a horse to Thajiwas Glacier in Sonamarg, also known as the 'Meadow of Gold,' is one of the most unforgettable experiences in Kashmir. During summer, the meadows turn into a shimmering golden hue, while in winter, the mountains and fields are blanketed in white snow, resembling a dreamlike painting. Accompanied by a friendly local Kashmiri guide who spoke a mix of English and Hindi, we embarked on a slow and safe horseback journey up the mountain. The path alternated between muddy trails and melting snow, but the guide and the horse were highly experienced, making every step feel secure. The scenery along the way was breathtaking, with towering snow-capped mountains and a deep blue sky contrasting against the white snow. The horse trotted past small icy streams fed by the larger glacier above, with the sound of crystal-clear water flowing alongside us. What made this trip truly special was not just the stunning natural beauty but also the warmth and sincerity of the Kashmiri people. Everyone greeted us with smiles, engaged in friendly conversations, and offered guidance without any rush. The unhurried pace allowed us to fully absorb every moment. This lake can be reached from 2 sides,either from Sonamarg involving a 3 to 4 day trek(which i went) or via Naranag. Via Naranag route is very steep and very tiring. Best Camp site : Excellent camping sites, camped their 2 days. mountainsides are full of varied flora. One can enjoy the very Chill weather and snow fall in some time periods of Trek. Best time to visit is like Trek operating days is usually from July to September.

The temple's offering kheer, the traditional rice pudding, as prasad adds to the temple's unique charm. Visiting during festivals like Navratri or Jyeshtha Ashtami enhances the spiritual ambiance, as the temple resonates with hymns and rituals. The Kheer Bhawani mela or festival is during Jyeshtha Ashtami, also spelt as 'Zyeshta Astami'.The mela was threatened during terrorism and Hindu exodus of 1990. It was restored with dedicated efforts of Indian Army contingent placed at Ganderbal.Now CRPF is deployed at temple complex for so many years. Temple has clean washroom. There are some cheap gift item shops outside the temple.

A heartfelt salute to the brave Indian soldiers honored there. The route features several scenic viewpoints, including the well-known Zero Point. On the way to Sonmarg, I had the chance to pass through the newly opened Sonmarg Tunnel, which stretches nearly 7 kilometers. An early morning journey is highly recommended, as this route leads to Ladakh and has restricted hours for heavy vehicle movement.

#hellohalloween #travel #naturalwonders Zoji La Pass or Zero Point is 30-35 km from Sonamarg. The ride is hilly, bumby and narrow. But the views are breathtaking. We see Amarnath Start point, Kashmir Village and the overall beauty of Himalayas. Do plan your trip , as entry from both directions is timed. For us from Sonamarg side it opened at 1pm. The Glacier (Zero point) itself is quite majestic. We opted for a snow bike (and were overly charged - 2k/Person) the ride itself lasted less than 5 mins (we went to Phase 2). (Don’t pay more than 1k/ person) . The point on the glacier was majestic, and due to less crowd this side we were able to take plenty of pictures and just soak in the atmosphere. Zero point has some small eatiers (but is overpriced again) . We stayed there for 50-60 mins which we thought was sufficient. A tip : If booking a cab from Sonamarg (4000/cab) , at Zero point it get very crowded and we don’t get any connectivity (Airtel / Vodafone). So decide before hand were the cab would be parked (ideally just before the drop point)

You can visit Kashmir anytime of the year.
