🚌【Transportation Guide】: Take a bus from Xining Bus Station to Xihai Town or take a train from Xining Bus Station to Haiyan Station, then taxi to Xihai Town. Bus is recommended!!
🧡【Tips】:
Follow traffic rules: Ride on the right, don’t cut in or ride against traffic, watch carefully when turning or stopping.
Watch out for large vehicles: G109 and G315 have heavy traffic, especially many fast trucks, keep distance.
Be careful of cattle and sheep crossing: Grazing areas often have cattle and sheep crossing roads, slow down in advance, do not chase or disturb them.
Beware of strong winds: Especially from noon to afternoon, the west loop may have strong crosswinds or headwinds, lower your center of gravity, hold the handlebars firmly, and get off to push if necessary.
Control speed downhill: Focus and control speed on downhill sections (especially the final pass downhill on Day 4).
Watch out for dogs: Some herding dogs may chase bikes, don’t panic or speed up, shouting loudly or getting off to push the bike between you and the dog usually works.
Group riding: Try to ride with companions and look out for each other.
Route book and navigation: Download offline maps in advance and bring a phone mount.
Buy insurance: Outdoor sports accident insurance is recommended.
Listen to your body: If feeling unwell (heatstroke, severe altitude sickness, exhaustion), stop immediately, seek help or get a ride.
Culture and Environmental Protection:
Respect beliefs: Qinghai Lake is a sacred lake for Tibetan people. Do not throw anything into the lake. Do not step on, climb, or move prayer flags, mani stones, stupas, or other religious facilities around the lake.
Protect the environment: Take all trash (including food wrappers, film boxes, tissues, etc.) with you and dispose of it at township garbage stations. Cycling is not just a challenge but a practice—leave only memories, no traces!
In case of extreme weather/severe altitude sickness/injury:
Reasonable withdrawal: Qinghai Lake road traffic is convenient (G109, G315), and private cars can be flagged down in villages along the way (negotiate shared rides). Meihu Bike Club offers rescue services (paid). Safety always comes first!
Cycling around Qinghai Lake is a breathtaking experience where your body endures hardship but your eyes and soul are in paradise. Prepare well, respect nature, and you will have an unforgettable journey! Wishing you a smooth ride and endless beautiful scenery!
