Starting from Gongshan County, you can reach Dulongjiang Township by taking Mingzhu Road, Shimen North Road, Gongdu Road, and Dulongjiang Road, and passing through the Dulongjiang Tunnel. The Dulong people were the last ethnic minority in China to have access to roads. In September 1999, the 96.2 km Dulongjiang Road was completed, and in 2011, the Dulongjiang Tunnel was built. After its completion, the S318 Dulongjiang Road was open all year round. Hei Wa Di is located on the roadside to Kongdang Township, Dulongjiang, and is the last mountain village before entering Dulongjiang. The ancient road was carved into the cliffs, less than 1 meter wide and about 2 meters high, winding above the Nujiang River. It was carved by the ancients using the natural terrain, following the mountain, and was a huge project. It is hard to imagine that during the six-month rainy season, there is a risk of house collapse everywhere. The rain is heavy, making it difficult to walk, and a road must be opened between the stones. The ancient road where Wuli Village is located is not only an important road for the village to the outside world, but also a necessary road from Yunnan to Chayu County in Tibet. A four-cornered pavilion is built on the double-eave roof, and a cross stands on the ridge. The cross can be seen from most angles in the village. Qiunatong Catholic Church has a long history. In 1841, a French missionary built a church here after crossing the Biluo Snow Mountain, but it was burned down a year later due to the "Bengka Incident." In 1888, Father Ren Anshou came to the Nujiang Grand Canyon. After the Baihanluo Incident in 1905, Father Ren Anshou used the compensation from the Qing government to build a new church in Qiunatong Village, which was completed in 1908. It became the northernmost point of Catholicism in the Nujiang River Basin. Villagers from here and Deqin on the other side of the mountain often come to the church to participate in activities. "Qiunatong" is a Nu ethnic word meaning "black water dam." Qiunatong is located in a valley. The nearby stream appears dark due to the light and shadow effects, and the terrain is relatively open, hence the name. The village is mainly composed of Nu-style wooden houses built along the mountain, with wooden carvings on the eaves. On sunny days, villagers graze sheep on the hillside and grow corn and wheat in the fields next to their houses. The northern end of the Nujiang Grand Canyon is the border of Tibet. Today, the village's tourism industry is booming. There is a guesthouse called Abai, which serves delicious food. If you are driving, you can contact the owner in advance. Qiunatong is located in the valley of Biluo Snow Mountain. A small road behind the village leads to the other side of Meili Snow Mountain after a four-hour hike, offering a different view from Feilai Temple or Wunongding in Deqin. Few people know about this route, so you need a guide from the village. The village is preparing to build a viewing platform and level the road. In two or three years, it will become a popular hiking spot.

KOLON's choice of location is interesting. Bingzhongluo in Gongshan County is the starting point of the Bingzhongluo-Chamdo route into Tibet, so many off-road self-driving teams pass by to replenish supplies. Wuli Village is across the Nujiang River from this KOLON store. Sitting by the warm and bright window, you can clearly see the whole village on the opposite side. In the morning, you can see the morning mist, and in the evening, you can see the smoke from the kitchen chimneys. Black truffles are produced in the mountains near Bingzhongluo. The scientific name of the black truffle here is Tuber indicum, which usually grows in soft soil and matures in winter. It has a strong aroma and firm flesh. The best time to pick black truffles is from the beginning of winter to March of the following year. During this period, the truffles are mature, with a stronger aroma and firmer flesh. From March to October every year is the truffle picking ban period in Bingzhongluo. The protection work is very strict. The Nu people mainly make a living from agriculture, growing crops such as corn and buckwheat. Their traditional houses come in a variety of forms, with log cabins being the most common. They also collect stones from the mountains, process them into sheets, and cover the roofs with them. The layers of stones resemble fish scales. According to the most recent census, the Nu population is less than 37,000, with most of them living in Lushui, Fugong, and Gongshan counties in Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture. Wuli Village, which we are introducing today, is a typical Nu village located north of Bingzhongluo. The village roads are straight or curved according to the terrain, and the houses are built on different levels of the terrain. Most of the houses are Nu-style stilted log cabins made of wood, bluestone, bamboo, and other materials. You can also enter the village from the south via a suspension bridge and walk south along the stone road and boardwalk to the Ancient Tea Horse Road, which is 3 kilometers long. You can get up close to the villagers' wooden houses, farmland, streams, and vegetation. Continue along National Highway G219 for 5 km from Bingzhongluo, where the steep mountains on both sides of the Nujiang River are called Shimen Pass. 9 km further on, you will reach the Bingzhongluo Border Checkpoint.
