Detailed Half-Day Tour Route of St. George, the Capital of Grenada
Arriving by cruise at Grenada, the "Spice Island" of the Caribbean, the capital St. George is also known as the "Rainbow City." After docking, there were more than a dozen showers in just a few hours, with alternating sun and clouds, rainbows frequently appearing.
However, since it is still the dry season, the heavy rain comes and goes quickly, which doesn't really affect the trip much. Bring an umbrella and occasionally take shelter under eaves. We explored the entire horseshoe-shaped bay and had some unexpected "gains"—while sheltering from the rain at a mountaintop home of an elderly person, we were given a large bag of nutmeg (photo 13). Of course, we politely declined but took one as a sign of respect and a souvenir 🌰.
Nutmeg, featured on Grenada’s national flag 🇬🇩, is one of the island’s economic lifelines. However, in the past 20 years, two hurricanes have caused almost devastating damage to the crops. Nutmeg is not cheap on the market, and in tourist areas, it sells for two pieces per dollar.
Overall, prices here are not high compared to other Caribbean destinations.
💵 Some shore excursion price references:
🚂 Small train ride $15, about 45 minutes, stopping at 2 stations (museum and fort, photos 15 and 16)
🚕 Taxi from the pier to the beach $10 per person one way (two people per car, more passengers lower the price per person), about 15 minutes drive
🚤 Ferry from the pier to the beach round trip $15 per person, about 15 minutes boat ride
🚌 Official private car, 1-2 people for 3 hours $90, $10 per extra person (route map 14); many private taxis near the pier with negotiable prices

🔶 The full loop is not long (about 10,000 steps), but there are many uphill climbs. The hot and humid weather can be tiring, so those with less stamina may choose a shorter route.
The city tour takes about two hours. If you have more time, you can go to Grand Anse Beach to sunbathe and swim.
If you have even more time, consider booking a car for rainforest and waterfall tours.
