2024 Guangzhou Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Guangzhou is nothing less than a glittering metropolis containing centuries-old temples and shimmering skyscrapers. Here you will discover a fusion of old as well as new China. The capital of Guangdong province, Guangzhou has a rich history, vibrant commence, and picturesque natural scenery, making it an unforgettable travel destination.Formerly known as Canton, today’s Guangzhou is one of China's most impressive urban centers, with a population of over 15 million. But there’s an ancient and historical side to this city too. Founded on the eastern bank of the Pearl River in 215 BC, Guangzhou had been a historic center of learning and a cradle of political activity (e.g., the Chinese Revolution of 1911–12). To this day, numerous notable Republic-era buildings remain standing, and some Guangzhou neighborhoods still retain the narrow alleys and old-world charms.Located in the south-central part of Guangdong province, the main part of Guangzhou is near Baiyun Mountain on the eastern bank of the Pearl River. There are 10 districts in total, with Yuexiu and Liwan districts considered as Old City; Tianhe is the business district, with many attractions (Guangdong Museum and Opera House) and shopping malls. Around the center districts, visitors can find Haizhu district on the southern bank of the Pearl River; Panyu district, popular with tourists as its home to Lianhua Mountain and various theme parks.Due to its subtropical climate, Guangzhou is blessed with flowers all year round. This earned it the nickname of "City of Flowers." The striking blooms are celebrated annually during the famous Spring Festival Flower Fair, when every street and alleyway is awash with vibrant colors. Other places of scenic natural settings include cherry blossom viewing in Huang Keng Cun Village in Huadu District, be surrounded by nature in Huangshan Forest Park, or admire the Million Sunflower Garden in Nansha District.Traveling to and around Guangzhou couldn’t be easier. If you are flying to Guanzhou, Baiyun International Airport serves the city and the region. There are multiple transfer options between the airport and city center, such as the metro (Metro Line 3’s Airport South Metro station is located at the lower level of the airport terminal), airport express and shuttle bus (over a dozen routes to key locations in Guangzhou), and by taxi.

My mum favourite shopping place 🤑🛍️
#familytravel
My mum travel is always all about shopping, buying clothes, getting good deal and I would say Tianhe Commercial Plaza in Guangzhou is the best best place ever for her!!! (She gone crazy here and kept buying non-shop for a few hours).
The whole mall is super eye-catching as it is a night old Shanghai themed where you will be seeing so many European-style mini architectures, ding ding train with the track built inside the mall, neon lights, special old vintage streets and so on.
Visiting to Tianhe district, might as well to come here regardless you are a shopaholic or just want to take countless touristic pictures 👌🏻

How to get there:

Or
- the most convenience way, take the taxi (taxi is quite cheap in China so it is a good option)

The Unreal Beauty of Guangzhou's Pearl River Banks
📍Address: Along the Pearl River, Guangzhou
💞Recommendation: Stunning Night Views
Starting from the Guangzhou Tower metro station exit, walk towards the Pearl River to see the iconic 'Guangzhou Tower,' also known as the 'Slim Waist' due to its slender and graceful shape. It's highly recommended to visit at night. Despite the crowds, the Pearl River's night scenery is mesmerizing. This spot has become a prime location for tourists to take photos, with people gathering on both sides of the river to capture the spectacular views of the Guangzhou Tower, showcasing various creative poses. You can also purchase tickets in advance to go up to the top of the tower, where you can enjoy city views and ride the horizontal Ferris wheel, though the price is a bit steep. Continue walking towards the Haixin Bridge, which is just a few minutes away. Once on the bridge, you can take in the panoramic views of both sides of the Pearl River and head to the bar area in Pazhou for a drink, where the atmosphere is quite lively.

In Guangzhou! Not Suzhou! As expected of one of the four famous gardens in Guangdong.
One of the four famous gardens in Guangdong 🍃 The other three are Liang Garden in Foshan, Keyuan Garden in Dongguan, and Qinghui Garden in Shunde.
Yuyin Mountain House has a history of more than 150 years. It is a private garden of Wu Bin, a scholar in the Qing Dynasty. The architectural layout is exquisite. Although it is not large, it is beautiful everywhere.
It is definitely a good place to take photos of Hanfu and new Chinese style! I also met someone taking wedding photos in the style of the Republic of China, so beautiful!
📷 Photo spots:
🍃 Xianqu Pavilion
The entrance is so beautiful, with pink flowers swaying in the wind, koi fish playing in the pond, and many students sketching. Remember to take a photo with Wenchang Pavilion from this angle.
🍃 Linglong Waterside Pavilion, Red and Green Bridge
The structure here is very interesting. The whole building is in the water, with a garden in the garden and a view in the view. The composition of the photo taken from the window of the red and green bridge is very beautiful.
🍃 Wenchang Garden, Wenchang Pavilion
There are many rockeries, and the toilets are hidden in the rockeries. The view from top to bottom is amazing.
🍃 Yu Garden
The windows are exquisite, and the light and shadow are beautiful.

Check in to the 2024 Guangzhou International Lighting Festival
#guangzhouattractions
As one of the three major light festivals in the world, the Guangzhou International Light Festival is an important event in Guangzhou at the end of each year. Of course, you have to check it out this time.
The 2024 Guangzhou International Lighting Festival, with the theme of "Vibrant Bay Area, New Colorful Guangzhou", has collected nearly 50 groups of domestic and foreign designers' works to create a light and shadow visual feast that integrates technology, artistry, immersion, and interactivity.
This lighting festival adopts the "1+2" model of a new central axis main venue and two sub-venues. The new central axis main venue includes Huacheng Square, Haixinsha Asian Games Park and Canton Tower, and the two sub-venues are Yijiang Cross-Strait Branch Venue and Huangpu Branch Venue.
Interactive performances such as "New Color Stage", "Light Dance Envoy" and "Rhythm" in the main venue of Guangzhou Tahai Xinsha, through the "light and shadow + technology + art performance" model, include live singing and dancing, bands, piano solos, and special fun parades The addition of other performances will further enrich everyone's play experience, add touching artistic beauty to the light festival, and create a relaxed and enjoyable tour atmosphere.
Guangzhou is one of the first cities to attach great importance to the "nighttime economy". It has developed the "nighttime economy" through different forms such as night snacks and night markets, night movies, international light festivals, and night cruises on the Pearl River. As the oldest benchmark project of Guangzhou’s nighttime economy, everyone hurry up and check in and take photos, it’s really a sight to behold.

Come to Guangzhou for Thai Food at Thai Li Restaurant.
This place is located in the Conghua area, known as the back garden of Guangzhou and famous for its rare hot spring resources. Besides its unique scenery and fresh air, it also boasts an authentic Thai restaurant, the renowned Thai Li Restaurant in Conghua, Guangzhou. Let's check it out this time.
First of all, the environment has a strong Thai feel, with Southeast Asian style decor and many Buddha statues. The space is spacious and comfortable, making you feel like you're in a restaurant in Thailand!
Thai Tom Yum Soup, Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Pad Thai, Thai Green Curry Chicken, Tropical Rainforest Pineapple Rice, etc., every dish is very authentic. The Tom Yum Soup is especially delicious, warming your whole body; the Mango Sticky Rice is also great, with a moderate sweetness and fresh mango. It makes me want to visit Thailand again!
Tips: If you like Thai food, you can't miss this restaurant. Special recommendations: Mango Sticky Rice, Tom Yum Soup, Thai Green Curry Chicken. The restaurant currently offers set meal discounts, with an average cost of about 100 yuan per person. Overall, it's quite cost-effective and worth recommending.
Detailed address: No. 352, Yuquan Avenue, Conghua, Guangzhou.
Famous dim sum place in Guangzhou - a must go.
Great ambience and decoration, food never disappoint.
Fried milk custard was very good!
Porridge - thumbs up!
Soy sauce noodle - Good!
The restaurant provided hot water pot for the tea, heated by lighted candles so the water is always warm and not overly hot for taste.

They do have many other outlets.
Weekend in Guangzhou: Discover the hidden beauty of Conghua.
This weekend is perfect for discovery. In the most beautiful season in Guangzhou, we came to a very beautiful place.
🌾 In the morning, we went to Aimi Daoxiang Town in Conghua. In November, the rice fields are golden and heavy, full of the joy of harvest. The autumn colors are particularly moving. Don't forget to take lots of photos of the autumn colors. This only happens once a year, and you'll have to wait another year if you miss it.
🍲 For lunch, you must try the most authentic Liuxihe farmhouse dishes. Locals recommend the grain warehouse pork knuckle soup. Fresh local pork and various beans and herbs collide to create a rich and healthy flavor. The taro tofu and lean fish are also delicious.
🚣🏽♂️ The afternoon is the best time to play in the water! The water in Yadong River is clear and shallow. Children can catch fish and shrimp, while adults can chat and drink. There is also a water activity center where you can experience paddle boarding and canoeing. The most beautiful season in Guangzhou is not to be missed.
Staying at the Shangshui Boutique Hotel by the river or at the Benle HIPCAMP Tent Camp is the best way to enjoy the autumn scenery in Daoxiang Town.
⛺ This time, we stayed in the forest-themed space capsule RV at the Benle HIPCAMP Tent Camp. Don't be fooled by the small RV, it has a lot to offer! The children's room and the parents' room are relatively independent at both ends of the RV, so you can take care of each other without disturbing each other!
🏕️ Both areas have panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows, so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. The artistic area in the middle of the RV is dry and wet separated. The bathroom toiletries are carefully selected, and there are makeup remover and face wash towels, which are really considerate! The waffle cotton slippers are perfect for me, a variety control freak.
🛀 There are also one-bedroom/two-bedroom luxury tents here, which are very spacious, all with private courtyards, and pet-friendly! It's really perfect for a family vacation!
🎶 The camp is lovely day and night. The BBQ area connected to Yadong River will keep you entertained from dusk to midnight! The BBQ set menu is affordable, and you can grab a guitar and sing with friends. It's a must for literary youth!

By far the Best Contonese Restaurant in Guangzhou

When you enter the main entrance, you don't feel like entering a restaurant but a botanic courtyard. The restaurant is split into many buildings and around their beautiful punds and gardens.

The restaurant offers delicious Cantonese cusine. All their plates were beautifully decorated and tasted even better. Their signature dish is the passion fruit shrimp that we couldn't get enough of.

Huangpu Military Academy: One of the most unique red education bases in Guangzhou.
The Army Officer School was founded by Sun Yat-sen in 1924. It is the 100th anniversary of the school and is well worth a visit.
Recommendations:
Take Metro Line 7 to Changzhou Station:
After getting off the subway, you can enjoy the decorations and pictures in the subway station.
Exit E of the subway station, walk past the "Jinhua Ancient Temple", and visit if you have time.
Visit and learn for half a day, and have dinner on the pedestrian street in the evening. The roast goose is very good.
After visiting the school, we strongly recommend:
Watch the large-scale light and shadow immersive stage play "Huangpu Huangpu". The content of the play is touching and exciting. If you have children, you must take them to feel the atmosphere of the scene, understand Chinese historical stories, remember the martyrs, and pay tribute to the heroes.
Watch it together with "Volunteer, Battle of Life and Death" and you will be deeply touched!
Remember history, love your country and be dedicated.
This is the best value hotel in Guangzhou.
I've been to Guangzhou 5 times with my kids and this is the best value hotel! It's really, really, really, really good! √ Two subway stations √ Surrounded by attractions √ Smart home
Great location
Close to two subway stations, with a subway entrance right downstairs! Surrounded by attractions, close to Canton Tower, Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, the zoo, and other attractions. It's in the middle of everything, so it's easy to get a taxi or bus! There are many good restaurants around the hotel, and the Xinhepu Historical and Cultural Block is just a street away. It's said to be a gathering place for superheroes in Guangzhou and a top choice for city walks. It's worth a visit!
Comfortable facilities
The room is spacious and well-lit, and the smart home is very advanced! You can just call Xiaodu if you need anything~
I checked the bedding carefully, and it was all very clean! The shampoo, shower gel, and hair dryer don't feel cheap at all.
Great service
The front desk staff are warm and attentive, and they upgraded my room for free. It feels like home here. The front desk staff also helped me with my luggage and enthusiastically introduced the surrounding attractions and recommended restaurants!
Food delivery is done by robots, which is great for lazy people! The hotel has a restaurant, gym, and laundry room, so you don't have to worry about laundry when you're away for a few days!

In Guangzhou, you must visit this romantic hilltop from "La La Land."
Guangzhou also has a romantic hillside meadow like the one in "La La Land!"
Overlook the deep blue night view of the entire city of Guangzhou 💙
Taking photos here is so romantic it will make you cry!!
-
Right at Baiyun Mountain ✔️Xiting
This little-known hillside on Baiyun Mountain has few people and beautiful scenery!
You can see the day and night of the entire city of Guangzhou here~
You really can't find such a beautiful spot anywhere else in Guangzhou!!
-
📷Tips:
1️⃣The photos were taken on the lawn next to the pavilion at Xiting on Baiyun Mountain! The lawn here is very large! There are many spots to take photos, and there are not many people here on weekdays. Even fewer people know that you can take night photos here! It's really suitable for people who like to take a walk and take photos at night!
2️⃣Photos of a single person, a couple, or a group of friends will all look great! Remember to focus on the city night view and blur the people for a better atmosphere!!
3️⃣Remember to bring mosquito repellent~ After taking night photos, you can go down the mountain from Lianquan Gate or the South Gate. Lianquan Gate is closer and there is an extra viewing platform on the way (but there are fewer people going down the mountain here at night~). The South Gate is more than ten minutes away, but there are many people climbing the mountain at night~)
-
📍Xiting, Baiyun Mountain
🚗Take the Baiyun Cableway to the top square, then walk for more than ten minutes to Xiting. After viewing the night view, go down the mountain from Lianquan Gate or the South Gate.

✅About Liurong Temple:
🟡 One of the most famous and historic temples in Guangzhou, it has always been a favorite place for literati and poets: Wang Bo left his writings here, and Su Shi inscribed the temple's name. There are many pilgrims in the temple, and the incense is very strong; the environment is quiet and secluded, making it a good choice to relax and empty your mind.
