This is the most quiet this street has been!
This Guanqian street is known for being really bubbly and vibrant! most times you arrive, you’re greeted with a very lively atmosphere. this is because Guanqian street is actually one of the famous tourist destinations In Suzhou.
But as Suzhou is one of the famous cities in China and one of the newer developed cities, most of the people who live in Suzhou are not locals of Suzhou. which means that when there is the Chinese holidays, the city becomes fairly empty.
This was why I was able to see the Guanqian street in this light! there were very few people around and may of the stores were closed. however it was still a nice peaceful time.

New landmark in Suzhou! | Cang Street has a new look, an entertainment check-in spot
🤠New landmark in Suzhou! The Cang Street, known as the 'Suzhou Taikoo Li', has finally opened.
🤠Reporting here at the tail end of 2023, saw the very popular 'lower waist girl' on the internet, a very cute IP.
🤠Some of the businesses here have not yet moved in, but it can already be seen that this place is going to be a high-end mall, adjacent to the ancient city wall of Suzhou, and Suzhou University is just across the street, with a concept of blending old and new.
🤠There are commercial streets both above and below ground, with boutiques and luxury stores (mainly clothing) above ground, and entertainment and dining below. This place should become a new entertainment check-in spot for young people in the future
Travel guide for Cang Street
The Third Prison is not what it used to be, you could say it's completely different haha. The commercial complex is very beautifully done, especially the view from the top, where you can see the beautiful scenery of the ancient city. It's a pity that the small western-style building is not fully open, and the second floor is actually nothing special but they don't let people go up.
The commercial building design is not bad, but the materials are a bit rough. However, the landscape engineering is very exquisite. Compared with first-tier cities, Suzhou still has a lot of room for improvement.
The architecture of Cang Street is very interesting, all the building shapes are very similar to its logo 'Cang Street', a bit like the open shopping mall in Hangzhou's Lakeside Yintai, the space is large, and the overall feeling is very good.
Located by the canal, the ancient architecture of 'Xiangmen' is nearby, adding a touch of cultural atmosphere to this modern and ancient mall.
🏠Address: Cang Street, Gusu District, Suzhou City
⭐Tickets: Free
🚗Transportation: Self-driving Cang Street has a parking lot / subway to Xiangmen Station
A brief visit to Cang Street
🌸 On September 28, the Renheng Cang Street in Suzhou opened, just in time for the National Day holiday, so I went to check it out.
⛩️ The entrance is right across from Suzhou University. If you see a pair of large magpies, that's Cang Street Square, a sight that brings joy.
💐 The architecture of Cang Street is divided into above ground and underground sections. The above-ground buildings are elegant and exquisite, with roofs shaped like the character 'Cang', in the style of Suzhou gardens.
⛲ To the north of Cang Street Square is a former residence garden with a history of over a hundred years. The 'Old Residence Asking about Smoke Scenery' Cang Street Garden Art Festival is currently being held there. You need to queue up to enter, so I'll wait until the long holiday is over and there are fewer people to appreciate it.
🎪 Walking further in to the city wall under Xiangmen Gate, one of the highlights of this opening is the CJ Super Collection Warehouse (the original brand of Renheng Cang Street), which brings together high-level trendy elements and collaborates with brands popular among young people. It brings a vibrant return to the vision of Suzhou's youth, with fine wines, coffee, food, and good things.
💮 There is also a small waterside square on the south side of Xiangmen Square, where a large white hollowed-out vase is particularly eye-catching, exquisite and delicate.
🏵 The high walls and watchtowers of the former Lion's Mouth Prison are still preserved a bit, and the walls are decorated with many beautiful osmanthus flowers and butterflies, making it a good place for photo ops.
🌆 Entering the basement from the sunken square, there is a shopping mall with many well-known brands, but many are not yet open. In addition, I didn't have time to go to the Cang Street Historical Review Special Exhibition and the UCCA large-scale art installation matrix.
🧱 Cang Street under Xiangmen City Wall, adjacent to Couple's Retreat Garden and Pingjiang Road, facing Suzhou University, is exquisite and elegant, modern and fashionable, unique in its blend of ancient and modern charm. Positioned as 'Inspired by Suzhou, not just Jiangnan', it aims to create a place of inspiration where international high-end fashion and Suzhou aesthetics coexist and grow.
Address: ⛩️ No. 1 Cang Street, Gusu District
Transportation: 🚄 Exit 3 of Xiangmen Station on Suzhou Rail Transit Line 1, 🚌 The bus stop is Xiangmen Station, with more than a dozen bus routes.

Garden Hotel SUZHOU Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Suzhou Nanyuan Hotel
Suzhou Nanyuan Hotel is a very historic state guesthouse located on Shiquan Street in the old city district, very close to major attractions such as the Humble Administrator's Garden, Lion Grove Garden, Hanshan Temple, and the Gate to the East. During this trip to Suzhou, staying here with my family was a wonderful experience.
The hotel's garden is also a typical Suzhou garden, with many ancient trees and unique rocks. Guests can make free reservations for the hotel staff to explain the past and present of this guesthouse.
This place was the former residence of Chiang Kai-shek's second son, Chiang Wei-kuo, and Lin Biao and his wife. Through the explanation, we learned many historical stories, and we were fortunate to visit the civil air defense project of that time, seeing the ancient hand-cranked ventilation fan related to my field of study, as well as the old-fashioned Hongqi sedan.
There is a Suzhou-style noodle shop owned by the hotel at the north gate—Yan Yang Lou, which offers affordable prices and very good taste. Friends can try the Suzhou cuisine there, which is light and full of fresh flavors.
The Most Secluded Zen Monastery in Suzhou | Shangqing Zen Monastery (1574)
| Shangqing Zen Monastery (1574). Shangqing Zen Monastery is located inside the Nanyuan Hotel on Shiquan Street in Suzhou. According to the 'Wu County Annals', it was originally named Shangqing An and located at Loumen, established during the Ming Dynasty's Chongzhen period. In the eighth year of the Qing Dynasty's Tongzhi era, the abbot Fuchuan led his disciple Huigen to rebuild it at Nanyuan. In the 18th year of the Republic of China (1929), Chiang Kai-shek built a private residence here, and his second wife Yao Yecheng lived here with her son Wei Guo. Madame Yao, a devout Buddhist, turned it into a family temple and set up a Buddha hall. Due to long-term neglect in maintenance, the temple was destroyed. It was rebuilt in 2004. The Zen Monastery has two floors, is not large in scale, and is simple and elegant.
Nanyuan Hotel European Architecture | Former Residence of Jiang Weiguo (1655)
Former Residence of Jiang Weiguo (1655). The former residence of Jiang Weiguo is located within Nanyuan Hotel at No. 99 Daichengqiao Road, Suzhou City, formerly known as No. 7 Caizhenfang. It was initially built in 1925 and completed in 1929. The exterior is a European-style three-story building with three bays, covering an area of 1,500 square meters. Surrounded by ancient towering trees and shaded by greenery; it offers tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle and has a beautiful environment; the interior decoration is exquisite, magnificent and splendid. Despite enduring 90 years of vicissitudes, the building still retains its original charm and has been listed as a key cultural relics protection unit in Suzhou City.

Humble Administrator's Garden Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Before you go to Suzhou, listen to my advice!
Suzhou gives me a very healing feeling, as life here moves at a slow pace. Taking a break without feeling guilty is possible. Sitting on a small bridge in the Pingjiang Road historical district (free) and watching an old man play chess across the river, young people chatting and laughing on a boat, and girls in qipao taking photos under the trees is very comfortable and leisurely... (For sisters who love photography, you can buy a qipao or Hanfu before going to Suzhou, it's very photogenic)
The local delicacies are made delicately and exquisitely, with a dazzling variety of pastries and diverse fillings, giving a sense of a small sparrow with all its vital organs. (Too much can be cloying, so taste in moderation)
The noodles are slightly sweet, and the dishes tend to be sweet as well. If you're not used to it, prepare some chili oil or Lao Gan Ma in advance, otherwise, after a few days here, your blood sugar will soar! This is advice from someone from Hubei.
The main attractions are gardens, which best represent Suzhou's aesthetics. The structure of the garden construction and some of the bonsai shapes are very characteristic of Suzhou style, and you will be captivated by the classical Chinese beauty here. The Lion Grove Garden and the Humble Administrator's Garden are similar in style, and you only need to visit one. They both require an entrance fee of 70/80 RMB.
The commercial streets are mainly beautiful at night. In the evening, Shantang Street (free) is very crowded, with alleys on both sides of the small river packed with people. There are snacks, pubs, music, etc. (Be mindful of your belongings! With the crowds, it's easy to get separated from friends.)
After staying in Suzhou for four days, it was very pleasing to the eyes, as I really like the scenery and the classical atmosphere here. The only thing is that I'm not quite used to the sweet taste of the food, but everything else is great
The first of China's four famous gardens: Suzhou Humble Administrator's Garden
🌠Humble Administrator's Garden, located in Gusu District, Suzhou City, was built in 1509 (during the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty). It is one of the four famous gardens in China and the private garden of the imperial historian Wang Xianchen. It is the largest existing classical garden in Suzhou.
🌅It is divided into three parts: the east garden, the middle garden, and the west garden. The middle garden is the essence of the whole garden. The main attractions include Xiangzhou, Lotus Wind Pavilion, Reflection Building, Tower Shadow Pavilion, Orchid Snow Hall, Listening Pavilion, Mandarin Duck Hall, etc. The recommended tour route is to play counterclockwise.
💰Ticket price:
80 yuan/person
🕙Business hours:
7:30-17:00 (stop admission at 16:30)
⏳Play time:
2-3 hours
📍Detailed address:
No. 178, Northeast Street, Gusu District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province
Compared to the Humble Administrator's Garden, I prefer this lesser-known free garden in Suzhou
Compared to the Humble Administrator's Garden, I prefer this lesser-known free garden in Suzhou!
When it comes to Suzhou, the first garden that comes to mind is definitely the Humble Administrator's Garden. Indeed, the Humble Administrator's Garden is famous all over the world and has its unique historical culture. However, the downside of being famous is overcrowding and the same old check-in routine. Having lived in Suzhou for over a decade, I recommend a lesser-known garden that locals prefer for weekend strolls - Dongyuan.
Dongyuan doesn't have the historical background of the Humble Administrator's Garden, but it excels in being closer to nature. On the calm lake surface, swans, mandarin ducks and ducks are frolicking freely. There are also the unique pavilions of Suzhou gardens. It's less crowded, free, and a great place to relax in the afternoon. Humble Administrator's Garden
Suzhou Gardens, this is how you should capture its essence! Traditional Chinese cheongsam, a dream back to the Republic of China era
🎢【Suzhou Gardens Day Portrait Guide】
【Cheongsam Portrait Shooting Guide】
🗓Itinerary:
Choosing the location
Cheongsam is suitable for shooting in the Republic of China style streets or Ming and Qing Dynasty style grey tile white wall garden buildings.
So this time we chose Suzhou Gardens for shooting. Suzhou Gardens are famous for their unique classical architecture and exquisite garden landscapes. However, there are many tourists, so you can choose relatively less popular gardens. Suitable gardens: Liu Garden, Canglang Pavilion and Ke Garden are just across the street, Yipu, etc.
When choosing a shooting location, you can decide according to the style and scene you want. For example, Humble Administrator's Garden is famous for its exquisite architecture and waterscape, suitable for shooting elegant portraits; while Lion Grove has a unique rock landscape, suitable for shooting portraits with a certain wildness.
🕙Shooting time:
One hour before the opening and closing of the garden, avoid the crowd, you can enjoy a truly quiet garden.
📝Tips:
Make full use of the light in the garden, find the time near sunset. Create rich shadows and light and dark effects. For example, when shooting portraits, you can choose where the sunlight shines through the leaves, using the tree shadows to add a sense of layering to the picture.
🧳Composition techniques
Use garden elements: Suzhou Gardens are famous for their unique architecture and garden elements, these elements can serve as the background or props for portrait shooting. For example, when shooting portraits, you can choose to shoot in the garden's corridors, pavilions or stone bridges, using these buildings as the background for the portraits, enhancing the artistic sense of the picture.
Capture the moment: There are often some unique moments in Suzhou Gardens, such as ripples on the water, petals falling, etc.
Pay attention to composition and posture: When shooting portraits, the choice of composition and posture is very important. You can try different angles and shooting methods to create unique picture effects. At the same time, pay attention to the model's posture and expression, let them relax naturally, showing their best state.
The most important thing is to make good use of the various shapes of door frames and stone windows in the garden: The background of Suzhou Gardens is often exquisite architecture and landscapes, which can echo with the portraits. When shooting portraits, you can use the garden background, interact with the model, and create interesting picture effects. For example, when shooting portraits, you can let the model and the flowers and plants in the garden complement each other, adding a sense of liveliness to the picture.
