A Healing Spa Getaway – A Travel Guide to Hivez
#January Getaways 2026
Hévíz, a spa town located in western Hungary near Lake Balaton, is renowned for its world-famous natural thermal lake and is an ideal place to relax. The town's centerpiece, Lake Hévíz, is the world's largest natural thermal lake available for bathing. The lake water is rich in minerals, with a year-round temperature of approximately 24 to 38 degrees Celsius. In winter, the lake is shrouded in mist, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.
Visitors can purchase tickets to enter the thermal area, change into their swimwear in the wooden changing corridors, and then float in the warm waters to soothe their body and mind. The pink water lilies blooming in the lake are also a highlight for photos. We recommend experiencing local mud therapy and massage treatments, which are particularly beneficial for relaxing joints and muscles. The town's streets are quiet and elegant, and restaurants offer Hungarian stew and desserts. Spring and autumn have pleasant weather, making them ideal for half-day or full-day retreats.

🌟 Hévíz, Hungary: Lakeside Charm and Autumn Atmosphere
🌟 Exploring Hevíz, Hungary: Lakeside Charm and Autumn Atmosphere
🏞️ Hevíz Thermal Lake
Hevíz boasts the world's largest natural thermal lake, its waters displaying shades from deep blue to emerald green due to minerals and the angle of sunlight. Even without swimming, simply standing on the lakeshore and observing the changing light and shadows on the surface is a testament to the wonder of nature.
🏡 Dense Cluster of Lakeside Houses
Rows of wooden houses line the lakeshore, their roofs gleaming in the sunlight, their reflections shimmering on the water. These clusters of houses, interwoven with the lake, create a unique landscape, evoking the warm atmosphere of a European countryside.
🌳 Parks and Tree-lined Avenues
The parks and tree-lined avenues surrounding Hevíz are especially enchanting in autumn. Sunlight filters through golden and orange leaves, casting dappled patterns of light and shadow. Tall trees line both sides, a central green lawn stretches into the distance, and yellow buildings are faintly visible on the right, creating a picturesque scene.
🌟 Although I didn't soak in the hot springs, I was still captivated by the colors of the lake and the scenery of the cottages while strolling along the lakeside. Walking on the tree-lined avenue, with fallen leaves carpeting my feet and sunlight dappling the shadows of the trees, I felt a sense of happiness, as if embraced by autumn. Hewitz is not only a health resort, but also a place where one can calmly appreciate the interplay of nature and culture.

Hévíz, (Hungary), you can heal yourself here
Heviz is a world famous spa town.
It's a very important tourist attraction.
It's about 8 kilometres (5 miles) from the city of Keszthely.
The town is located near Lake Heviz, the world's second-largest thermal lake, but biologically the biggest active natural lake.
The temperature of the water is between 24 °C and 37 °C. The bathing is possible in the lake year round.
The water of Lake Heviz is a bicarbonate-based medicinal water containing calcium and magnesium. Thanks to its rich mineral content, it is effective in curing many diseases like musculoskeletal diseases (rheumatism), chronic neuritis, and for disease prevention or rehabilitation purposes.

Magical moments, wonderful mornings.
The best sunrise I ever have seen right from my hotel's balcony.
Nothing feels more amazing than wake up for sun rays tickling your face.
You wake up, walk out to your hotel's balcony and the nature appears in it's full glow in under the rays of rising sun.
The calm and tranquility is unique unlike anywhere else in the world.
A definite must live experience for all.

Hévíz Spa Town | Experience the Hévíz Spa Lake~
| Experience the Hévíz Spa Lake~. Last weekend, I went to the small town of Hévíz, famous for its large natural hot spring lake! The experience was very good, in addition to the healing hot spring lake famous for its natural minerals, there are also some other things to play with, it is a good place to relax away from the city in winter. Here are some of my insights~
🏞Hévíz Spa Lake:
The core attraction of the town, search for Thermal Lake of Hévíz to see the real-time water temperature every day and even live broadcasts facing the lake. It has indoor and outdoor areas, the indoor area is a large wooden house + corridor built in the lake, the indoor area is divided into a hot spring part and many different temperature mineral saunas, salt saunas, steam rooms and massage pools, there are many projects and it will not be boring. And the indoor hot spring is warmer than the outdoor because of the insulation, there is an activity door in the pool that can directly swim to the outside, or you can go down to the lake from the terrace outside the wooden house from the rest area. The outdoor area is really cool, a super large warm water lake that is steaming hot, surrounded by red pine trees, there are not many people in late autumn and early winter, you can soak for a while and then rest on the floating pavilion to eat some snacks.
❗But note that when the weather drops below 5 degrees, the outdoor area is just 27 degrees warm water, suitable for people who are very good at water to swim as a pool, the outdoor photo is still very beautiful but the soup can basically only be in the indoor area.
🚗Transportation: It takes 2 hours by car/2.5 hours by bus/about 4 hours by train from Budapest, close to the Austrian and Croatian borders, many foreign tourists.

Budapest Surrounding Tour | Hévíz Thermal Lake
| Hévíz Thermal Lake. This time we are traveling to Hungary, and we chose the Hévíz Thermal Lake in the small town of Hévíz. The lake water here is a natural thermal spring. As a country of hot springs, Hungary, Lake Hévíz is the world's largest biologically active natural thermal lake👍, a 4.4-hectare thermal lake with rich sulfur, radium, and minerals. The lake water originates from a 38-meter deep cave, and its high capacity allows the lake water to cycle every 72 hours. The lake water in Hévíz contains a similar proportion of dissolved and gaseous substances, thus unifying the rich carbonic acid, sulfur, calcium, magnesium, and carbonate radon in the hot spring water. Various beneficial features.
⚠Note: You need to bring a life ring, which is something like a high-density long strip of sponge, which can also be rented, because the lake is 2-38m deep and you can't step on it!
🎫Ticket price:
Students 3 hours 4000 forints💰
Adults 3 hours 4500 forints💰
There are also one-hour tickets and some additions such as saunas, etc. We did not experience
There are some foods in the small town, and many people are traveling and vacationing📷. We went during the May holiday, the temperature was very comfortable, the hot springs are divided into outdoor and indoor, the indoor temperature is higher and safer, you can choose according to your own habits.

Let's explore the hot springs of Hungary together | Arrival SPA HEVIZ
| Arrival SPA HEVIZ. In the cold winter❄, there is nothing more comfortable than a cozy hot spring♨ when traveling to Hungary. We have experienced the hot spring tour of the capital Budapest before, and today we recommend the SPA HEVIZ in Hévíz hot spring town.
➡Hévíz:
Hévíz at the west end of Lake Balaton, which means 'warm water', Hévíz Lake is the world's largest biologically active natural hot spring lake, the lake water that has been quietly flowing for tens of thousands of years is as deep as 38 meters, and the water is naturally replaced every 3.5 days. The lake area is 4.4 hectares, composed of cold and hot springs, the summer temperature varies between 33-38 degrees Celsius, and it will not be lower than 22-23 degrees Celsius even in winter.
Therapies using medicinal mud taken from the lake can stimulate blood circulation and accelerate metabolism. The beauty industry also uses the mud here, which can make the skin more elastic and tender.
🕙Opening hours: October 9, 2023-March 31, 2024, 9:00-17:30
📍Location: Hévíz is located in the west of Hungary, 2 hours drive from Budapest, and 2 hours and 40 minutes by train.
❓Surroundings: The Festetics Palace, which is only a 10-minute drive from Hévíz, is one of the most beautiful castles in Hungary

Hungary | Heviz Thermal Spa Lake
| Hévíz Thermal Spa Lake. The hot spring closes at 18:30 in the evening. In fact, the hot spring is a large open-air "pond" with lotus leaves and small fish in it! According to the window display, there seem to be various small animals such as snakes 🐍 and frogs 🐸? ! It is simply a lake with everything that nature expects. Then spend 3800 forints to buy a 2-hour hot spring ticket. 🩱🩱 Bring your swimsuit, no need for a swimming cap, change clothes in the public locker area and changing room on the right hand side of the door, and then bring your own big towel and you can go down to the lake to enjoy the hot springs~
Please note that you must wear slippers. The pool is very deep. The sign says 2-38m, so if you are not familiar with water, it is best to bring a swimming ring. Many people on the road are carrying swimming rings to the hot spring area, and you can also rent them on site!
You can choose the "pond" under the stairs. There is an enclosed area inside the house for people who are not familiar with water. The water temperature is the same as outside and is circulated. There are many lounge chairs on the large lawn on the left side of the entrance, as well as a ladies' locker room and shower room. There is no shower gel in the shower room, so you have to bring your own if you need it, but there are hair dryers. After soaking in the hot springs, you can also take a tour on the town's small train. The ticket is 2,000 forints, or euros, which is 6€ per person, and one circle takes 30 minutes.
The town is very small, and it only took a day to soak in the hot springs and walk around the town. Overall, the experience was very good! !
