Nikaido Museum is within walking distance from Hinode Station. The collection belongs to the president of a company famous for its barley shochu. Don't be fooled, there was an incredible amount of Taikan's work on display. I personally found this more satisfying than Adachi Museum of Art. You can enjoy the artworks at your leisure... I'll definitely come here again next time!

This hotel is located near Yodoya Station in Oita Prefecture. It is part of the Kamenoi Hotel chain. A breakfast and dinner set was 6,000 yen. I stayed here with my wife and my parents-in-law. We use it every year on January 2nd. The open-air bath is spacious and feels great. I was very happy that the sauna was back in operation this year. The sauna is small (for 5-6 people) but the temperature was high, which was nice. The cold bath is also small, but it's nice that there aren't any waves. The temperature felt a little high. We stayed in a room on the 11th floor. The view from the room is amazing. The sunrise from the sea, the New Year! I stayed at "Spa Village Hinode" in Hinode Town, Oita Prefecture, about 30 minutes by car from Beppu Onsen♪ You can stay in a room with an ocean view and a semi-open-air bath for less than 10,000 yen. From the inn, you can see not only the ocean view, but also the view of Beppu with steam rising from the steam, and the night view of Oita City's industrial area. Stayed at Grand Mercure Beppu. The hotel is quite nice, with complimentary drinks time, overwhelming breakfast, onzen and stunning sunrise view ! A short 30 mins drive from hotel to Yafu art village was a more than pleasant and relaxing time. Beautiful scenery and well set eateries and shopping ( despite a bit touristy but still enjoyable) . Wish we could have more time in Oita. #oita

We visited Sanrio Harmony Land, a place that children love because it is full of Sanrio characters. Harmony Land itself is not very big, so it is not burdensome to walk around, and you can ride and watch all the rides and parades, so it was a very satisfying place. We reserved the JR Sonic train in advance on the JR Kyushu Net site, so we went comfortably with a QR ticket without having to issue a ticket. We had to go from Hakata Station to Kitsuki Station, so you need to reserve the 08:02 train, so you can get off at Kitsuki Station and take the bus, so please keep that in mind. *And you need to prepare change in advance for the bus fare (Adult: 270 yen, Child: 140 yen) I searched for tickets on every site, but Trip.com was the cheapest, so I purchased it in advance, and checked the voucher on the day, and entered comfortably. *Once you enter, go straight to the Harmony Train~ They announced the time in advance, so you don't have to wait long and get on Go down and ride the Sanrio boat. And then get back on the Harmony Train and come back up!!!! *They said the parade at 12:30 was the best, So we enjoyed ourselves riding the rides during that time. We got off around 12:15, but we got there too late, so we sat at the end. If you think the parade is important, get off early (Don't bring a folding chair!! You'll be pushed to the back, towards the sunlight. Be sure to bring a mat~) *After the parade, we have lunch, but there are too many people!! We ate the ekiben we bought in advance on the train, So we ate after 2 o'clock. There were only a few people there at that time, so we ate comfortably. This means hotel guests get access to their lounge every night at 8.30pm and there is also breakfast in the morning. I love the hotel's lounge access as it's a great to end off the day with drinks and snacks or some light refreshments and kids are granted entry into this lounge as well. Drinks include both alcoholic and non alcoholic and there's a great variety of snacks every night. We also loved that there's a hot spring/onsen for us to use at the hotel's basement. A great way to relax by soaking in the warm onsen waters. For kids, there's even a reading corner with colourful kids furniture. As the hotel is located by the sea, there's even a walking trail by the sea area and you can take your morning or evening walks there admiring the sea views. I got to say we really enjoyed our stay at Grand Mercure Beppu because of all these perks, it's been an amazing one!

#newyearnewtrip There is only one word to describe our stay at Grand Mercure Beppu Bay Resort & Spa and that would be, 'Fantastic'! The hotel is situated on top of a small hill and located right beside the sea. Our room was an ocean view superior twin and it comes with 2 double beds and another single bed - perfect for my family of 4. The room was modern and spacious and we love the sea view outside especially. There's not much to the room with simple designs and a bathtub with shower toilet, but we appreciate that we had a comfortable good night's rest here. The hotel lobby look aged and perhaps need a face-lift. Service at the hotel is great, with staff being able to converse in English and always being helpful. The ocen view room is highly recommended if you are planning a stay here.

#newyearnewtrip I always love a good breakfast buffet spread, during a hotel stay. I got to say i was hugely impressed by the breakfast buffet at Le Sensoriel restaurant, during my recent stay at the Grand Mercure Beppu hotel. Their restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of the hotel and just like a big food hall, there were plenty of seatings available and it's row after row of delicious food for breakfast. There was an international selection of eggs Benedict, pancakes and pastries and a Japanese selection where you can get soba, miso soup and much more. The kids section had nuggets, fries and pasta, etc - food that were appealing to kids. Then, there's also yoghurt and soft serve with muesli and so much more! You will eat till you drop for breakfast here. Choose a seat near the windows, as the outside is the view of the sea. What a pretty view, as you sit and enjoy your breakfast!

I recently went to Harmonyland for the first time since I was a child! It had been over 10 years since I last visited, but there weren't too many people and it was a really fun theme park packed with cute things. It's surrounded by nature and is a very relaxing place, so I think it's great for families and girls' trips! If you have the chance to come to Oita, it's definitely one of the places you should visit.
