📍 Spot Overview Located in Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, "Okunoshima" is affectionately known as Rabbit Island. With a large population of wild rabbits living there, it is a highly popular destination as a relaxing paradise. However, the island has its own unique rules and tips for a comfortable visit, so be sure to check them out before you go! ① 🐰 Rabbit food is NOT sold on the island! This is the most important point! There is absolutely no rabbit food sold on the island. Make sure to buy some at the shop in the "Tadanoumi Port Terminal" before crossing over to the island. ② ✉️ Trade your empty food bags for a postcard!? Leaving trash on the island is strictly prohibited. To prevent the rabbits from accidentally swallowing plastic, always take your empty food bags home with you. When you return from the island, drop off your empty bags at the Tadanoumi Port shop where you bought them, and you can amazingly exchange them for an adorable original postcard! ③ 🚶♂️ Exploring "on foot" is highly recommended It takes about an hour to walk around the entire island. Rental bikes are available, but if your main goal is hanging out with the rabbits and snapping lots of photos, exploring on foot is definitely the best choice! By the way, there is also a free shuttle bus running between the ferry terminal and the main plaza (accommodation facilities), making getting around a breeze. ④ 🕊️ The island's dark historical background It may be a peaceful rabbit haven today, but during World War II, Okunoshima was known as the "island erased from the map" because it housed a secret poison gas factory. Exploring the ruins on the island (such as the remains of the poison gas storehouses) and diving deep into its history is another vital part of the Okunoshima experience. 🍦 Recommended Gourmet Treat Once you arrive on the island, you can't miss the famous "Rabbit Booger Vanilla Soft Serve"! I went to Kosanji Temple, which has been going viral on Instagram. It was an absolutely dazzling temple!! "Kosanji" is a Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji sect temple located on Ikuchijima Island in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and is characterized by its extravagantly gorgeous architecture, earning it the nickname the "Nikko of the West." Built by the prominent businessman Kozo Kosanji as an expression of immense gratitude to his late mother, it is widely known as the "Mother's Temple." Today, it is open to the public as the Kosanji Museum and stands as one of the Seto Inland Sea's premier tourist destinations. The Hill of Hope (Miraishin no Oka): Designed by sculptor Itto Kuetani, this breathtaking white marble garden spans approximately 5,000 square meters. Crafted luxuriously from premium Italian marble, it offers a stunningly photogenic landscape that makes you feel like you've been transported overseas. Magnificent Temple Halls and Pagodas: The temple grounds feature 15 spectacular buildings modeled after Japan’s iconic historic structures, such as the "Koyo Gate" inspired by the Yomeimon Gate of Nikko Toshogu Shrine, and the "Main Hall" modeled after the Byodoin Temple Phoenix Hall. Having tried LIVEMAX hotels in Himeji, Okayama, and Nagoya with pretty good overall experiences, I was curious about why some of their branches got mixed reviews. With one brand getting such varied feedback, the only way to really know is to stay there yourself. So, while traveling in Hiroshima, I made a point to book this particular branch. It’s located right next to the station, taking just about three to four minutes on foot. Unlike the somewhat aloof foreign front desk staff in Nagoya, the Japanese staff here in Hiroshima were incredibly warm and welcoming. The rooms are standardized, but slightly more spacious than those at Toyoko Inn or APA. The bed features a Slumberland mattress—a favorite of the British Royal Family—and after staying for two nights, I can confirm it’s incredibly comfortable. Having a microwave in the room is super convenient for breakfast or a late-night snack. It's also worth mentioning that the drip coffee bags they provide are actually quite good. The large public bath on the top floor is the absolute best part. It's much bigger than the ones in Himeji or Nagoya, featuring two large pools—one indoor and one outdoor—both offering fantastic views. You can literally soak in the bath while watching the Shinkansen speed by below. The only minor drawback is the sauna; it's a bit smaller than at other branches, so the wait times can be longer. Right outside the bath area, there are massage chairs and vending machines. Grabbing a bottle of milk after a soak and then kicking back for a massage is pure bliss. As for the location, there's a huge supermarket right across the street. If you visit Kure City in Hiroshima Prefecture, you absolutely must try the famous cream pie from Edelweiss Patisserie. The cream pie costs 465 yen (tax included) per piece. It features a crispy pie crust filled generously with mildly sweet custard and whipped cream, offering a pudding-like texture as well. When it comes to sightseeing in Hiroshima, Miyajima is a must-visit destination. However, it takes a bit of time and distance to get there—about 30 minutes by train from Hiroshima City plus an additional 5–10 minutes by ferry. Recently, I went on a two-day trip to Hiroshima to visit a dear friend! At the museum and around the Dome, people of all nationalities were silent, and some even walked with tears streaming down their faces. It was a powerful realization that this place transcends words, serving as a site where people from all over the world pray for peace. 🕊️ A Peaceful Landmark Visited by G7 Leaders Near the Atomic Bomb Dome is the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, which was visited by world leaders during the 2023 G7 Hiroshima Summit. The sight of these leaders leaving messages of peace at this location was deeply moving. Visitors can even sit in the same chairs used by the leaders! 🍞 A Relaxing Break at Hiroshima Andersen For a break, I stopped by the flagship store of Japan's renowned bakery, "Hiroshima Andersen." The historic building exudes a sense of grandeur, and stepping inside, you're greeted by the delightful aroma of freshly baked bread. The light meal I enjoyed here was truly delicious, with the flavors of the ingredients shining through. Spending time in this beautifully preserved space became a cherished memory of the trip ✨ ⛩️ Day 2: Exploring Miyajima, One of Japan's Three Scenic Spots On the second day, I took a ferry to Miyajima! Highlights of Miyajima: Itsukushima Shrine Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the main attraction. When the tide rises, the vermilion shrine appears to float on the sea, creating a magical sight. The island is also home to adorable wild deer, adding to its tranquil atmosphere 🦌 🦪 Savoring Miyajima's Culinary Delights · Oysters: The oysters I had along the main street were plump and juicy, bursting with rich ocean flavor. · Deep-Fried Momiji: A must-try while strolling through Miyajima is "Deep-Fried Momiji." Impression: This treat is essentially a fried version of momiji manju, with a crispy exterior and a moist, hot interior! The contrast between the crunchy and fluffy textures offers a luxurious experience unlike regular momiji manju. · Flavor: I tried the "koshi-an" (smooth red bean paste) version, and the combination of the fragrant coating and the sweet bean paste was absolutely perfect. I could eat endless amounts of these delicious treats. It's a must-try when visiting Miyajima! 🥢 Hiroshima's Must-Try Gourmet Delights For lunch, I went to the famous restaurant "Micchan"! The authentic Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, layered with plenty of cabbage and noodles, was absolutely fantastic. However, the portion size of Micchan's okonomiyaki is quite large, which might be a bit much for smaller appetites. Sharing with friends or arriving with a hearty appetite is recommended! 🎁 Recommended Hiroshima Souvenirs 1. Takatsudo's Momiji Manju 🍁 My personal favorite is "Takatsudo." Known as the original maker, their momiji manju has incredibly chewy skin. The filling is not overly sweet, offering a refined taste. I bought various flavors as souvenirs for my workplace and family. 2. Miyajima's "Shamoji" (Rice Paddle) A traditional craft from Miyajima. The custom began in the Edo period, with "serving rice" symbolically linked to "capturing enemies," making it a lucky charm. There were many practical options available. I purchased a name-engraved strap shaped like a shamoji! 3. Oyster Soy Sauce from Local Supermarkets Oyster soy sauce, available at local supermarkets, is a must-have. It adds depth to dishes, and I made sure to buy some for home use. It worked wonders when making tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet)! Summary 🍋 Though the trip was limited to two days, I was able to experience both the "history" and "present" of Hiroshima. Seeing and feeling it firsthand helped me understand why Western friends make the effort to visit. I highly recommend taking a journey to connect with Hiroshima's "heart" ✨

📍Bakudanya Hiroshima Tsukemen Honpo Main Store If you're wondering where to go during your trip, I highly recommend visiting this place if you're in Hiroshima, Japan! Here, you can enjoy various dishes like Tsukemen and truly experience the taste of Japan. The restaurant has plenty of seating, making it convenient to dine in. The serene scenery that greets you as soon as you arrive by ferry instantly transforms the atmosphere of your journey. Especially, the iconic Itsukushima Shrine, which appears to float on the sea, captivates many travelers with its mystical appearance. Depending on the tide, it offers a completely different ambiance, making it a fantastic spot for photography. As you stroll around the island, you'll also encounter freely roaming deer, adding a unique charm to your experience. Absolutely!! 📍Japan 〒730-0033 Hiroshima, Naka Ward, Horikawacho, 5−12 Yamazaki Toshihiro Building 1F Kizunaya This place was the best sushi restaurant I've visited in Hiroshima! Even for someone who doesn't usually enjoy sushi, the flavors here were truly delightful. If you're looking for an authentic and delicious sushi experience in Hiroshima, make this your first stop. You won't regret it! Every dish I ordered was incredibly tasty, so feel free to try a variety without hesitation. I highly recommend visiting and enjoying the amazing food here! 😆😆

When you think of Hiroshima, a few keywords might come to mind: Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki, the Atomic Bomb Dome, the Orizuru Tower, and Itsukushima Shrine. This trip was all about leisurely exploring these iconic landmarks and connecting with them beyond just words. 🔗 The Atomic Bomb Dome needs no further introduction, while the Orizuru Tower, located next to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, is a modern architectural attraction. From the open-air "Hiroshima Hill" on the 13th floor, you can enjoy a gentle breeze while taking in views of the Peace Memorial Park, the Atomic Bomb Dome, the distant mountains, and the entire cityscape of Hiroshima. After enjoying the view, you can walk down the "Slope Walk" to the indoor area on the 12th floor. Here, you can watch instructional videos to learn how to fold a paper crane as a prayer for peace, and then place your crane into the 50-meter-high glass Orizuru Wall. From the outside, you can see the cranes contributed by visitors from around the world, stacked up to several stories high—a truly spectacular sight. The 12th floor also features various interactive installations that tie the theme of paper cranes to the atomic bomb issue, making it a place worth exploring at a leisurely pace. After leaving the 12th floor, you have three options to descend: walk down the Slope Walk, enjoying murals by different artists on each level; take the spiral slide straight to the exit; or use the elevator 🛗—though the latter is not recommended, as you’d miss out on these unique experiences. Visiting on a weekday, the Orizuru Tower wasn’t crowded, but it’s one of my favorite spots in Hiroshima, and I hope more people get to know about it! Back to the main topic: although I’m not particularly knowledgeable about teppanyaki dishes like Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki, Osaka-style Okonomiyaki, or Monjayaki, being in Hiroshima, I had to try it! I ended up having Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki twice: ☝️ Hiroshima Okonomiyaki Village (a building with three floors, from 2F to 4F, entirely dedicated to Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki 🏢. Once you step in, you’ll be enveloped in the aroma—there’s no escape!) ✌️ Nagataya Okonomiyaki (a Hiroshima-exclusive spot where you can choose between udon or yakisoba noodles and decide whether to sit at the teppan counter or in the seating area). I must say, Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki, packed with stir-fried noodles, vegetables 🥬, toppings, batter, and eggs, is not only layered but also incredibly filling—one meal could easily replace two! I recommend eating it step by step, starting with the original flavor and then trying the various sauces provided by the restaurant to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Daishō-in or Daisyō-in (大聖院; lit. 'Great Holy Temple'), also called Suishō-ji (水精寺; lit. 'Crystal Temple'), is a historic Japanese Buddhist temple complex with many temples and statues on Mount Misen, the holy mountain on the island of Itsukushima, off the coast of Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, Japan. It is the 14th temple in the Chūgoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage and famous for the maple trees and their autumn colors. Including Mt. Misen, Daishō-in is within the World Heritage Area of Itsukushima Shrine.

Beautiful Scenery and Heavy History 1⃣️ Itsukushima Shrine⛩️: Highly recommended to visit during high tide; otherwise, the torii gate on the sandy beach during low tide might seem less impressive (especially with tourists taking photos under the gate). 2⃣️ Iwakuni Kintaikyo Bridge: There is a toll to cross the bridge, and the local Iwakuni tile soba is quite good. 3⃣️ Atomic Bomb Memorial Museum☢️: The guestbook is filled with messages like "Facing history is the only way to truly achieve peace"☮️.

Here we warp into another universe...full of art in old buildings, a small Otaku bookstore, and a cafe decorated in a minimalist Japanese style. Art lovers will love it because every corner has details, from drawings on the walls to anime posters in front of the store. 💛 We stopped at a coffee shop that served manga-themed lattes and homemade cheesecake—simple but good! In the afternoon, we traveled to Miyajima. It took less than 15 minutes to take a ferry from the shore to the island. We walked straight to Itsukushima Shrine, which has a torii gate standing tall in the middle of the sea. At low tide, you can walk down to it. The afternoon light hits the red wooden gate.
