#November Destinations 2025 Thien Mu Pagoda in Hue is one of Vietnam's most representative ancient temples, situated on a hill overlooking the Perfume River, and considered a spiritual symbol of Hue. According to legend, in the 16th century, an old woman with white hair appeared here, prophesying that a king would build a temple here, bringing prosperity to the country. Later, Nguyen Hoang, the leader of the Nguyen dynasty, heard of this and, feeling a divine message, ordered the construction of the temple in 1601, hence the name "Thien Mu," meaning "celestial grandmother." The temple is most famous for its seven-story Phuc Duan Pagoda, the tallest existing ancient pagoda in Vietnam and a landmark for tourists. Climbing the stone steps offers tranquil views of the Perfume River. The temple is elegant and solemn, preserving many historical artifacts, including ancient bells, stone tablets, and scriptures. Furthermore, Thien Mu Pagoda witnessed important events in modern Vietnamese history, such as the Buddhist movement, making it not only a religious site but also a symbol of culture and history. There is also a blue vintage car at Thien Mu Pagoda that is very important in Vietnamese history. It was the car that Thien Mu Pagoda Abbot Thich Quang Duc once rode in.

🚗 We traveled to Incense Village by private vehicle, arriving at approximately 3:00 PM. Upon arrival, we saw an incense village and numerous incense shops. There were also a variety of colorful incense sticks along the roadside. You can choose whichever shop to take photos at or purchase incense sticks from. We chose the shop with the largest selection of incense sticks and a variety of colors. The shop we visited rented a set of incense sticks for 150,000 VND each, and there was also a photo booth area where you could take photos. There were many colorful spots to choose from. We chose a white cheongsam, which contrasted perfectly with the colorful incense sticks, creating stunning photos. We absolutely loved this place, as it was so photogenic. And not only are there colorful incense sticks, they also sell colorful wooden fans and hats with a variety of beautiful designs. Anyone visiting Hue must not miss this check-in spot. There are many photo spots and many shops offering rentals of incense sticks, each categorized in various patterns and colors. Hai Van Quan is a famous historical relic located on the top of Hai Van Pass, the border between Da Nang city and Thua Thien Hue province. Since 19th century, it has been the capital of Nguyễn dynasty (which is why many people in Vietnam have the surname “Nguyễn.”) Here I’ll share the famous and historical places in Hue. Hope you have fun visiting them. ✨Mausoleum of Emperor Khai Dinh✨ This Mausoleum is the tomb for the Emperor Khai Dinh. This tomb is combined with eastern and western style, especially European architecture. You can see the fence has the sculptures of dragons. There are also sculptures of horses, elephants, and servants on the stairs. The ceiling is decorated with cloud dragons with the hues of black and white. If you’re fond of ancient artifacts, history, culture exploration, this place is definitely for you. 📍Núi, Châu Chữ, quận Thuận Hóa, Thành phố Huế 530000, Vietnam ✨Thiên Mụ Pagoda✨ There is a tower built by the third emperor of Nguyễn dynasty in front of the temple. Shakyamuni Buddha, Bhaisajyaguru Buddha, and Amitabha Buddha are in the temple. They are the three main Buddha of Eastern culture. It is a sacred and peaceful temple. 📍Hương Hòa, Huế, Hue City, Vietnam ✨Hương Giang✨ Beside the Hương Giang are lots of special dragon boats that you can take. These boats were used to be for the emperor to enjoy the view of the river. Now it is for the tourists to enjoy😆 ✨Thuy Xuan✨ Thuy Xuan is a little village known for incense making. Every household’s main profession is making incense. When you visit it, you’ll see incense with all kinds of colors from the traditional red and yellow to orange, purple, and green placed everywhere in a beautiful pattern, which brightens up the atmosphere. This place almost provides the incense industry of the whole Vietnam. The incense is made of wood scraps, cinnamon, and frankincense, so you will slightly smell the fragrance of this traditional artistic and ritualistic objects. Some stores even provide incense making lessons, which you can attend and make your own incense. ✨Nhà Hàng Cung Đình✨ This is the most special and extravagant dinner I’ve ever had in Vietnam. When I enjoyed the delicious food, there were even musicians playing traditional eastern royal music in the dining hall. 🌸 I visited Huế in early March, and the weather was quite pleasant during this time. Flowers were blooming everywhere, making it a perfect time to visit. Highly recommend you go! 🧳 DAY 1: - Morning: Visit Minh Mạng Tomb (The grounds are spacious and filled with beautiful scenery, so my mom and I spent the entire morning here). - Afternoon: Visit Khải Định Tomb (The architecture is stunning, but the grounds are not very large). >> Then, we went to Thiên Mụ Pagoda (There are many activities here. You should go early to catch the sunset, take photos, enjoy tofu pudding, and explore the pagoda grounds, which are adorned with beautiful flowers). - Evening: Have dinner at Chạn Restaurant (Highly recommended! My mom couldn’t stop praising the food). >> Afterward, I took my mom to rent Nhật Bình traditional attire (This place offers free hairstyling, unlike other rental shops I’ve tried before). 🧳 DAY 2: - Morning: Visit Đại Nội (The Imperial City is vast and beautiful, but walking around can be tiring. My mom and I spent the entire morning until 2 PM here). - Afternoon: Didn’t go anywhere due to the heat. - Evening: After dinner, we strolled along Trường Tiền Bridge. 🧳 DAY 3: - Morning: Visit An Định Palace (Beautiful but with a small courtyard. We couldn’t get a chance to take photos at the signature staircase due to the crowd). - Afternoon: Enjoy chè (Vietnamese sweet soup) at Chè Hẻm >> Shop for souvenirs at Đông Ba Market before heading back to Hanoi. 🚗 TRANSPORTATION: - Outbound: Flight from Hanoi to Huế (2.9 million VND for 2 people). - Return: Sleeper bus from Huế to Hanoi (600,000 VND for 2 people). 🍉 Must-Try Foods: - Bánh khoái (crispy pancake) - Bánh ép (pressed cake) - Chè (sweet soup) - Vịt lộn um bầu (duck embryo stew with gourd) - Bún bò Huế (Huế-style beef noodle soup) .. If you are looking for a place to "touch" history and immerse yourself in the ancient space, then Hue Imperial City is definitely a stop not to be missed when coming to the ancient capital. I just had the opportunity to visit here and was really attracted by the grandeur but still very quiet, making every step feel like being lost in the golden past of the Nguyen Dynasty. Hue Imperial City is a cluster of relics including the Imperial City (where the king held court and worked) and the Forbidden Purple City (where the king and the royal family lived). The Imperial City includes Ngo Mon Gate, Thai Hoa Palace. The Forbidden Purple City is an area reserved for the king and the royal family, including Dai Cung Mon, Ta Vu and Huu Vu, Can Chanh Palace, Thai Binh Lau, Dien Tho Palace... You should go early to avoid the harsh sunlight and have more time to visit because the Imperial City is quite large and easy to get lost. The weather in April when I went, Hue was quite hot, the sun was scary but the photos were beautiful. June-August will probably be even hotter. If you want to see Hue poetic and sad, you can go in September-October. We visited Thuy Xuan Incense Village in Hue and were instantly drawn in by the colors and scent of handmade incense. It was so much fun exploring the village, trying different types of incense, and chatting with local artisans. We took tons of photos, but more than that, we truly appreciated the cultural beauty and tradition behind each stick of incense.

When will I ever have this kind of meal that the emperor eats? It's a bit expensive, but it's acceptable because it's royal cuisine. Get to Hue by train is very enjoyable trip, the train will take you through Hai Van pass, run by the ocean and let you slowly enjoy the view. They will make one stop in Lang Co Bay and you are allowed to get out, have a look at the view and buy some snacks called “bánh bột lọc” (the 5th picture). It’s really good. By night, you can enjoy the live traditional Vietnam music on the dragon boat in Huong river. The train ticket costs 190k VND (~8€) for one way trip. We chose Cafe Mémorie Railway French Cafe☕️. The cafe itself is a century-old French building with a colonial-style exterior. It combines watching trains and drinking coffee. In short, it is a tourist attraction built for tourists, allowing multiple experiences to be satisfied at once. The decoration of the cafe is very eye-catching. No matter which angle you take photos from, they look good, and every photo is a wonderful one. In addition to coffee and tea, Cafe Mémorie also provides cakes, snacks, and ice cream. It is located next to the Hue Railway Station and you can hear the sound of trains passing by. It is really a great cafe.
