🌇 Hurghada Marriott Beach Resort, Egypt - What is the beach area like here? Since we're talking about January in Egypt, I decided to create a series of posts about the resort town of Hurghada. ☕ Those who have been following me for a while know that I enjoy visiting five-star hotels during my city walks: relaxing, sitting in the shade, having some water or coffee, and using the restroom... The Marriott chain is my favorite for such stops. Their coffee and desserts at the café are often reasonably priced. And they always accept cards! In Egypt in 2022, cards were generally not widely accepted. They prefer cash, which is understandable. However, in January 2022, it was much more convenient for me to pay by card rather than exchanging Egyptian currency. In this particular case, I visited this hotel to "relive memories," as I had been here 12 years ago at that time. ⛱️ One of the main advantages of the beach here is the man-made island and the separated swimming area in the sea. This setup is designed for easy sea access, for children (with sand), and for safety (including protection from sharks). There is a pool system, sun loungers, deck chairs, outdoor tables—everything for the comfort of guests. We didn’t swim at the beach this time: it was nearing sunset, and we didn’t even bring swimwear. In the evening, after sunset, the evening program begins here, with a bar and disco. Overall, in Egypt, it’s better not to choose hotels below 4 stars. Even in three-star hotels, it can be dirty, and the biggest risk is food poisoning. 🌅 Where can I go in Hurghada to watch the sunset? One decent (and free!) spot is the Hurghada Marina Boulevard, where wealthy Egyptians park their yachts. All tourists take this place during their sightseeing tours of the city, and we went on one in 2010. Here you can find restaurants with European menus (prices are higher than in the local eateries), but here you're paying for a beautiful sea view. The quality of the food is average, and the prices are on par with average restaurants and cafes in St. Petersburg. 📸 This is a great place for a photo shoot. Everything is "expensive and luxurious" by local standards. It hasn't gotten any worse in the 15 years since I last visited the Marina, and everything is well maintained. Local Guide: A young, enthusiastic China expert, he's the youngest but has the best Chinese among all the local Egyptian guides. Smart, witty, and handsome, the older aunts and uncles in the group all adored this sensible young man. He understands Chinese culture and is familiar with the characteristics and habits of Chinese tourists from various regions, allowing him to tailor itineraries and communicate effectively with each traveler. Itinerary: In Cairo, I bought the most beloved belly dance hip chain of my life. In Aswan, I saw the most magnificent and awe-inspiring temples. In the Red Sea, I tasted the most unforgettable oranges. In Hurghada, I most wanted to stop and watch the shimmering light spots underwater. Along this journey, I met people from all walks of life. Shoes left outside mosques lay haphazardly, like our briefly intertwined destinies in this country. Each person carried their own weight, rubbing against their own imperfections, devoutly coming here to pick up a piece that fits them. There is never just one path to pilgrimage. What Egypt taught me is not whether there are scammers here, but: even if the whole world says a place is bad, that may not be the truth. The real truth is that it has the cunning of tourist vendors and the sweet tea handed by ordinary people; it has the pungency of the recycling station and the devotion inside the cave church; it has the desolation of sandstorms and the quiet, brilliant dream world beneath the Red Sea.
