This time, I traveled to Ise Grand Shrine by train from Aichi Prefecture. The train ride took about two hours, but it was a truly wonderful experience. After purifying my hands in the Isuzu River and walking along the approach, the solemn atmosphere intensified, and I truly felt I had arrived at a special place. Today, I chose "Mankin" as the main dish, with "Ise Tea" and "Iwato Salt" as side dishes. 🍨 • Mankin The cinnamon flavor is complemented by a hint of herbal notes. The medicinal flavor is subtle and addictive. Sitting on a plush chair isn't tiring at all, and you'll arrive in no time. ✅ [Futami Koshitama Shrine] ⛩️ Purify your mind and body at this shrine, famous for its two married rocks. Receive a "Mukusiokusa" (pure indigo grass) and keep it close to your body. It's said that placing it at the entrance of your home will also ward off evil. ✅ Head to the Outer Shrine of Ise Grand Shrine! The customary order is to visit the Outer Shrine first, then the Inner Shrine. Toyouke-no-Omikami, the guardian deity of food, clothing, and shelter, is the deity who supported Amaterasu Omikami's diet. There's a model itinerary posted on the website, so I recommend following it! ✅ Our lodging was the Fairfield by Marriott Mie Okuise Odai. It took an hour from Ise-shi Station to Misedani Station. Gazing out the window at the natural scenery along the way felt like a time trip! Even the station was so local! The hotel is listed as two minutes from the station, but in reality, the only ticket gate is on the opposite side, so it took about seven or eight minutes to get to the railroad crossing. The room was new, clean, and spacious enough for a solo traveler. The stylish and clean shower and sink were also a big plus! It was a long way from the hotel, but it was worth the trip! There's no dining area, so you can stock up at a nearby supermarket, or eat at a Japanese family restaurant or roadside station! [Day 2] ✅ Head to the Inner Shrine of Ise Grand Shrine! I recommend following the same itinerary. A visit to the main shrine, where Amaterasu Omikami is enshrined, is a must. It's said to be more appropriate for praying for the peace and prosperity of the nation than for personal wishes. Whatever the reason, you're sure to feel recharged! ✅After your visit, head to Okage Yokocho for some souvenirs and a meal! Ise City, Mie Prefecture. After visiting Ise Jingu Shrine, I headed to Okage Yokocho. This street, which recreates the atmosphere of the Edo period, is enjoyable to walk through just for its ambiance. Since I was there, I decided to try some local specialties. First, I ordered Ise Udon for ¥600. The soft noodles had a unique texture that left a strong impression. Next, I decided to try some street food and bought a Matsusaka Beef Croquette for ¥330 and an Ise-Shima Beer for ¥400. The croquette had a crispy coating and a rich, savory meat flavor. Paired with the craft beer from Ise-Shima, it enhanced the travel experience even more. The souvenir shops were also well-stocked, and I purchased some Ise Bay Aosa Seaweed Tsukudani. After sampling it, I found its flavor to be excellent, making it a perfect accompaniment to rice. I visited around 2:30 PM on a weekday, and it was quite crowded. Combining a visit to Ise Jingu Shrine with a trip to Okage Yokocho allows you to enjoy sightseeing, gourmet food, and shopping all in one go. I found it to be a highly recommended spot. Each store offers slightly different menus, and I visited the one near the Inner Shrine at Okage Yokocho. The name 'Tonkatsu' literally translates to 'abandoning pork'? The store's signature item is fried meatballs, which are about the size of a crepe and mostly sold as takeout. I opted for dine-in, where the menu includes beef bowls, beef hot pot, and sukiyaki. I ordered a bowl of Kuroge Wagyu beef rice. The preparation style features a rich, thick sauce. The beef is not particularly tender but has a chewy texture, as it is grilled. Personally, I found the flavor to be a bit on the heavy side.

It has one store each in the inner and outer shrines of Ise Jingu. The bright orange shop sign and the super cute cultural and creative design not only attract attention from the outside, but also create an atmosphere inside the store, which is very similar to an elementary school classroom. Dairy products are very popular, such as pudding and soft serve ice cream, which are very popular among adults and children. I bought a limited-edition pudding with a scoop of ice cream on top. It was dense and milky, and very delicious. I saw many people buying large cans of milk and soft serve ice cream, which was not bad.

Eating meat and drinking wine, isn't this the best representation of food! The owner of 肉と酒ROOT2 is quite unique. The store rules do not allow you to take pictures of the menu, but the owner's familiarity with cocktails and the skills of handling Matsusaka beef are very professional. Sitting in front of the board and watching him grill Matsusaka beef is a great enjoyment. The steak is grilled crispy on the outside, but the meat is tender and juicy. The pink fat is delicious.

It is full of atmosphere, and there are bend groups practicing from time to time, which is quite joyful. The grounds feature numerous towering trees that require five or six people to encircle, and there are guards stationed to ensure visitors can only worship from outside the gates. The path from Ise Station to the Outer Shrine is a beautiful shopping street lined with stores, resembling a spacious and bright pilgrimage route leading directly to Toyouke Daijingu. Honestly, it's quite enjoyable to stroll through.

Futamiura Meoto Iwa (Wedded Rocks) If you want to experience the beauty of the Ise-Shima coastline, a visit to Futamiura is highly recommended. It's best to go in the late afternoon when the sea breeze is gentle, making it neither too hot nor too cold. You can enjoy the blue sky before sunset, the golden hues of the sunset, and the deep blue after dusk—all stunningly beautiful. Meoto Iwa, or the Wedded Rocks, are actually two rocky formations in the sea. Many couples come here to pray. The male rock stands 9 meters tall, while the female rock is 4 meters high. They are connected by five sacred ropes, with a distance of 9 meters between them. These two rocks have stood side by side for years, symbolizing the bond and companionship of a married couple, making it a site rich in stories. To reach Futamiura Meoto Iwa, you can take a bus or JR train from Ise Station. Afterward, it's just a short walk along the coastline, making it quite convenient.

I'm not sure if it's the best business hotel in Ise, but it's definitely the most convenient. It's directly opposite Ise Station and just across the road. Sanco Inn in Ise is divided into the main building and the annex. The main building is more old-fashioned, but also cheaper; the annex is on the 10th-11th floor of the building next door, with newer facilities and more expensive. But both buildings have hot springs to soak in---Shiki no Yu. Considering the price on Saturday, I stayed in the standard double room of the main building (NT. 2,504/breakfast not included). It's 12 square meters small, but it's comfortable for one person, and the floor is high, with a great view from the window. The natural hot spring in the hotel is nice to soak in, and there are free popsicles to eat after the soak. Although the main building is small, the service is quite friendly. It also sells Ise bus one-day tickets, which is quite convenient. I looked at the photos of the annex, which is quite good. After all, it is a newly built residential and commercial mixed building. I went to Grand Ocean Ise Shima in Ise, Mie Prefecture! The sea was close and the rooms were clean, so I was able to spend a relaxing time. We had a BBQ for dinner, which is unique to glamping, as you don't have to prepare or clean up, you just have to grill, so I'm happy that I could have a fun and easy BBQ!
