Roadside stations, which can be found all over Japan, are essential sightseeing spots for resting during road trips. Kushigaki no Sato, located about a 10-minute drive from the Kihoku Katsuragi Interchange on the Keihanawa Expressway, has a restaurant where you can enjoy locally produced Wakayama cuisine, as well as a wide variety of souvenirs made in Wakayama. There are two parking lots, the first and second, so it's a great place to stop by on your drive! Koyasan was easily one of the most peaceful and memorable places I visited in Japan. 🌲⛩️ The whole area has a completely different atmosphere from the busy cities. Surrounded by mountains, tall cedar trees and historic temples, everything feels slower, quieter and more meaningful. Walking around Koyasan was probably my favourite part. The streets are calm, the air feels fresh, and there are beautiful temples almost everywhere you turn. Okunoin is especially unforgettable the long walk through the forest, surrounded by ancient cedar trees and stone lanterns, creates such a peaceful and almost spiritual atmosphere. What I liked most about Koyasan is that it doesn’t feel like a place you need to rush through. It’s better to take your time, walk slowly, enjoy the scenery and experience the quiet side of Japan. The mossy half is the 200 m of lantern path just past the Ichijō-in sub-temple where Sphagnum pads the grave stones and Racomitrium films the cedar roots, fog under the canopy till 8, a monk's bell at 07:10, zero day-trippers (they arrive 10:00). Mistake: I did Koyasan as a day-trip once — 2 hrs in, missed the 06:00 service, Okunoin at noon was a bus-group corridor. Sleep one night. Second: I tapped card at the shukubo — ¥18,000 cash preferred, 7-Eleven ATM at Namba before boarding. Third: I wore city shoes — cedar-needle path slick at dawn, ¥12,000 boots. Buy: ¥18,000 shukubo (meals included), not the ¥3,000 Okunoin night tour. Gear: ¥12,000 boots, layer warmer than Osaka (800 m, 24°C summer vs 33°C city). Local rule: Nankai ¥2,030 + cable ¥500 card, shukubo cash, no photos inside temple hall during service, stay on the lantern tread, the grave-stone Sphagnum is 1,200 yr of Kobo Daishi shadow not a step. Opinion: Koyasan sells the cemetery-at-night; the mossy lantern path at 07:00 after the morning service is the slow half with zero day-trip crowd, and the ¥18,000 shukubo buys it. Would you pay ¥18,000 to sleep in a temple just for mossy graves at 07:00?

Koyasan 2023 30 minutes of winding mountain climbing by car and you can admire it

this is my firat trip to japan since i never been there before. i had so much fun in japan. as example, i get to know their culture and their history. besides, i get to know how Japan modernish their life so that’s why their attitude is very eye catching and famous in people’s conversations bcs their attitude is 10/10. i like the food too. i love to eat fresh sushi that handmade by original Japanese 🥰 I hope i’ll going there again 💖

The two flower water basins have roses floating in them, and they are very beautiful. The autumn leaves will be at their best around next month, so I would like to visit again.

Mount Koya was founded by Kukai. A sacred place that has preserved over 1000 years of history. A place where you can enjoy the pure air and richness of nature. We stayed at Kamiike-in Temple, which has a 3300m2 garden, for a day! It was a tour, but the monks randomly selected several temples and each family was divided up to be guided there. It was also a strange feeling. We ate our meals with the monks. We couldn't talk during the meal, and our legs got numb from sitting upright lol

From their website, I found that this is also the place where Kūkai, an important teacher of Buddhism, met with two dogs, one black and one white, who would guide him to Koyasan, where he founded a temple complex which still exists today. Because of this shared history the shrine became an important place of worship for both Shintoism and Buddhism. Despite its relative remoteness definitely worth a visit. Great landscape settings. The old bridge is actually open to the public and has some wooden pieces attached to help visitors retain their footing. #givethanks #givethanks
