Exploring Izmit? Here’s a quick highlight that totally wowed me: 42 Evler Cami, an epic blend of peaceful vibes and stunning Turkish architecture 🕌✨
Getting Around: Izmit is super manageable with local buses and dolmuş (shared minivans) — both cheap and easy. A cab ride works too if you want door-to-door convenience.
Foodie Tip: After visiting the mosque, wander nearby side streets for mouthwatering local eats like simit (Turkish bagel) or kebap. Grab a tea at a neighborhood café for full Turkish flavor.#travel2026
Essential Tips: Respect mosque etiquette (modest dress, remove shoes before entering). No entrance fees! The quietest hours are early morning or late afternoon.

Modern City Mood🌧️
Izmit might not be on every traveler’s radar, but if you love discovering unique architecture and cultural gems, you’ll want to check out Seka Cami ⛅️🏛️. This spot in Kocaeli mixes seriously modern design with a stunning outdoor setting (even the moody, rainy skies just make it more atmospheric).
Must-see highlight:
- Seka Cami (Kozluk, Övül Tezişler Cd. No:40, 41200 İzmit/Kocaeli, Türkiye): This isn’t your typical mosque—its contemporary look feels fresh and inviting, especially if you love snapping artsy photos. The building’s close-up details and lines are insanely photogenic, and the outdoor landscape gives it a super chill vibe even on cloudier days. Pro tip: Rainy weather actually adds some extra drama, so don’t let that stop you!
Getting Around:
Izmit’s easy to explore by taxi or on foot in the city center. If it’s raining, definitely call a ride instead of walking!
Food tip:
Warm up after your architectural wander with Turkish comfort food—look for a local café serving mercimek çorbası (lentil soup) or fresh simit (the best quick snack!).
Quick Tips:
- Bring a compact umbrella—Izmit weather changes fast!
- Seka Cami is open all day for visitors, but remember to dress modestly if you want to explore inside.
- Have some cash on hand; not all small cafés accept cards.

Quick stop in Izmit and trust me, if you’re into epic food moments and chill vibes, Antepia is THE place 🍽️✨
Top Spot to Visit:
Don’t waste time – head straight to Antepia (Demokrasi Cd. No:57 Yenisehir Mahallesi, Izmit 41050 Türkiye). Doors open by noon, and the cozy Turkish-meets-casual ambiance makes you want to settle in for hours. The menu is loaded with authentic flavors from the southeast – think grilled meats, heavenly baklava, and the freshest salads. Easy ordering, generous portions, and super-friendly staff.
My tips? Getting there is a breeze – transport in Izmit is simple. Hop on the city tram or grab a local taxi for under 10 TL from the main square. Antepia’s location means you’re also close to local shopping and parks for an after-feast walk.
Izmit Fast Facts:
Getting Around: Local trams and taxis are cheap, fast, and reliable. No stress, just grab and go.
Eat This: Definitely try the kebab platters (shared or solo), and don’t leave without tasting their pistachio baklava.
General Tips: Most places accept cards, but carry some cash for smaller spots. Spring and autumn = the best weather. No visa hassles for most travelers, but always double-check.
Izmit is way underrated – one killer meal at Antepia and you’ll agree. #IzmitEats #TürkMutfağı #FoodieJourney

Kasr-ı Hümayun Pavilion, Türkiye: Ottoman Elegance by the Lake
#mediterraneanvibes
📍 Location:
Kasr-ı Hümayun Pavilion (Hereke Pavilion), Hereke Mahallesi, Körfez District, Kocaeli Province, Türkiye
(Overlooking the Gulf of İzmit)
The Kasr-ı Hümayun Pavilion, also known as the Hereke Pavilion, is a beautifully preserved Ottoman imperial residence built in the 19th century. Once used by Sultan Abdülaziz during his visits to the Hereke royal carpet factory, the pavilion sits in a peaceful park setting with panoramic views over the Gulf of İzmit. The building showcases classic Ottoman-European architectural fusion, with elegant interiors, grand staircases, and ornate woodwork.
✨ Tips:
• Visit in the morning or late afternoon to enjoy the garden and views in cooler light.
• Don’t miss the interior rooms, especially the central hall with its wooden ceiling and historical details.
• Combine with a trip to the Hereke Carpet Museum, famous for silk carpets woven for the Ottoman palace.
• A peaceful stop for history lovers or those on a day trip from Istanbul (~1 hour away).
• Check local opening hours—often closed on Mondays.
Best time to visit:
Spring and autumn for the most pleasant weather and greenery in the surrounding park.

Türkiye Izmit
Cat city, local fresh market, local people bring products from the farm to sell, go during November-December, there is a chance of snow, outlet shopping, when you go to Turkey you must try the tea there, I guarantee you will love it, and the original kebab, which has salad and seasonal vegetables there, very cheap Starbucks, not too sweet like back home, the grilled meat there is delicious, renting a car is the best, there is a lot of traffic if you go to Istanbul, the English language of the people there is not strong, both men and women do not shower much, during the winter the smell will linger, but overall you must go every year.

A museum that collects artifacts from the Nicomedia ruins
This historical museum is located in Izmit, the capital of Kocaeli Province in Turkey, which was called Nicomedia in the Greek and Roman era. Although it is not large, it displays cultural artifacts excavated from various places in the surrounding area in an easy-to-understand manner. It is located very close to the Izmit station, which is a major transportation hub, so it is easy to access.
