Autumn reverse travel, 8 unpopular places all pro-test, no need to force, not expensive and very peace of mind
It is said that autumn is right to go far away, but many people's first reaction is to flock to popular cities. In fact, people who really know how to play have turned their attention to those underrated niche destinations early on. This article does not engage in cookie-cutter strategies, only 8 places I have walked through, stepped on pits, and reaped surprises. There are hot red beaches and tea fields so quiet that you can hear your heartbeat. You choose one and leave.
01 Pan Jin | Liaoning
Red Beach isn’t red, it’s the color that the cabbage boils out of the salt bases. Mid-September to early October is the most saturated time, and the whole beach paint seems to have knocked over the paint tray.
📍Red Beach Scenic Corridor is 18 kilometers long, don't think about walking all the way, take the scenic electric car to the "Love Declaration Corridor" get off, then walk 200 meters deep, the red is the strongest.
⚠️ After 4pm the light shines diagonally down, the colors are the most beautiful, at noon the image is gray and blurry. There is an observation deck at the end of the corridor. The wind is strong enough to blow away your hat. Remember to press it firmly. Tickets include about $110 for an electric car, with prices subject to announcement on the day. Don't eat nearby at the entrance of the scenic spot, drive out 5 kilometers to Erjiegou Town, fishermen's vegetables are half cheaper, 🦀 river crab is made, full of yellow fat, a piece of only 20 dollars. The whole scenic spot takes 4 hours to walk. If you bring the elderly and children, only the first half is enough. The second half of the scenery is highly repetitive, saving your physical strength.
02 Lhasa | Tibet
Lhasa in autumn is more transparent than in summer, the sky is fake blue and the air is so dry that the skin is tight. I suggest you stay near Barkhor Street, not next to the Potala Palace, because it is convenient to change in the morning and walk alleys at night, ten minutes walk to 📍Dashoji Temple. Don't just take pictures of the Potala Palace from the front. Walking inside from Zongjiao Lukhang Park, the water of Dragon King's Pool reflects the white-walled Red Palace, the angle is ten times more beautiful than the square.
⏰ Potala Palace tickets need to be booked one day in advance on the public account, 200 dollars, 9 am issued, slow to run out. There are always people kowtowing at the entrance of Dashoji Temple. Don't rush to take pictures. Watch from the side for ten minutes first. That kind of piety will make you embarrassed to raise your phone.
⚠️ Namtso is 4700 meters above sea level, do not stay in Lhasa for only one day to go, at least two nights to adapt. Chartered round trip from Lhasa to Namtso costs about RM800, departing at 6am and returning before 4pm, with winds strong enough to blow through down jackets after sunset.
🍜 Go back to Bark Street at night, drink a bowl of sweet tea, 10 dollars a hot pot, with Tibetan noodles, warm to the stomach.
03 Taizhou | Jiangsu
Autumn in Qinhu is wet and mist floats on the lake in the early morning, as if someone has spread rice paper on the water. It’s not one of those first-stunning places, but it’s especially good for slow-life daze.
🚄 Take a taxi from Taizhou Station to Qinhu Wetland Park about 40 minutes, about 50 dollars. The park is divided into two parts, the east side is the wetland and the west side is the Gushou Sheng Temple. It is recommended to walk through the wetland canyon in the morning and then go to the temple in the afternoon, because the light in the morning is particularly soft through the reeds.
⚠️ The rocking boat in the scenic area is recommended to take, 60 dollars a person, the boat girl will sing local tunes, but do not sit the whole way, sit halfway down to walk, the second half of the waterway scenery repeated.
🍜At noon, go to Jiangyan Town to eat fish soup noodles. The soup is so white that it looks like milk. It costs 15 dollars a bowl, with a plate of dried silk. It's so fresh that your eyebrows will fall off. The eight fresh dishes of Qinhu are the signature, but to be honest, a single order of fish balls and crab is enough, the other dishes in the package are average. The whole park is a 3-hour walk, suitable for bringing parents, the pace is not fast, the road is smooth.
⏰ The Qinhu Club Boat Festival in mid-October, when it was crowded, if you want to enjoy the scenery in peace, avoid that week.
04 Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture | Jilin
Liuding Mountain is not the kind of steep mountain, it is more like a huge garden, with the golden fallen leaves covering the stone path in autumn, clicking on it. What attracts me the most here is Zhengjue Temple, which is more serene than many popular temples.
🚄 Take a taxi from Yanji city for 40 minutes, the average ride is 20 dollars. Scenic spot ticket plus sightseeing car 100 dollars, sightseeing car must be taken, the mountain gate to the temple complex is 3 kilometers, walking is too tiring.
⏰ Best to go in the morning, there is almost no one in the temple before nine, you can hear the background sound of wind chimes and chanting mixed together.
⚠️ The Golden Ding Buddha is at the highest point. You have to climb a flight of stairs, about 200 steps. If you are not physically strong, you can rest your feet in the pavilion halfway up the mountain. The visibility there is also good.
🍜 After going down the mountain, go to the city of Dunhua to eat Korean cold noodles, with pot-wrapped meat, sweet and sour meat slices wrapped in the cold noodle soup, autumn eat has a unique flavor. Play the whole scenic spot for about half a day, go out before 3pm, and you can also go to Bohai Square in the city to see the autumn chrysanthemum exhibition, free of charge.
05 Yueyang | Hunan
The autumn of Yueyang Tower is the autumn of the literati. Standing upstairs, the wind of Dongting Lake wraps up the water vapor and rushes towards my face. The phrase "worry before the world" suddenly became clear.
📍Yueyang Tower Scenic Area Ticket 70 dollars, enter the park after 4 pm, less people and good light, you can see the lake surface dyed golden by the setting sun.
⚠️ The stairs in the building are narrow and sloping. Wear sneakers, don't wear slippers. Walk 500 meters south out of Yueyang Tower and you will find Baling Square, where you can see the Dongting Lake more openly and free of charge. Junshan Island is in the center of the lake. You have to take a boat to get there. The round-trip boat ticket plus the island ticket is about $120. To be honest, the island has average views, but the boat ride was very comfortable, with the lake breeze blowing and you can see the finless porpoise occasionally leaping out of the water. If time is tight, I recommend skipping Junshan Island and heading straight to the pier by Dongting Lake to watch the sunset, where locals like to go.
🍜Eating shrimp cakes in Bianhe Street at night, just fried until golden brown, 5 dollars each, you can hear the crispy sound when you bite into it. Don't miss the Yueyang fish noodles either. The spiciness is strong enough and the soup is so fresh that you can swallow your tongue.
06 Jingdezhen |Jiangxi
Jingdezhen in autumn does not have the heat of summer, so it is best to take a slow walk in the alleys of Taoxichuan. The houses here were converted from old porcelain factories, with red brick walls crawling with creepers, which especially resembled a movie set after the evening lighting.
🚄 Take a taxi from Jingdezhen North Station to Taoxichuan for 15 minutes, less than 20 dollars. The Taoxichuan Cultural and Creative District is more lively at night than during the day. Market stallholders put out all kinds of handmade ceramics. A coffee cup is priced from 80 to 300.
⚠️ Don't buy large pieces of porcelain in Tao Xichuan, expensive and difficult to bring, take a picture of what you like, go to the National Trade Ceramic Market and the same model is half cheaper.
📍Ancient kiln folklore exhibition area tickets 95 dollars, 10 am to have a porcelain performance, old master hand-pulled blanks, see people want to try. A 2-hour walk here is enough, the core of which is to see ancient kiln sites and craftsmen making them on site.
🍜 Go to Fuzhou Alley at noon to eat beef bone noodles, 20 dollars a bowl, the soup is spicy, the meat is stewed until it falls off the bones. The autumn night in Jingdezhen is a bit cool. After walking around the market, I found a street stall and ordered a fried soda dumpling with a cold beer. It was comfortable.
07 Bayingoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture|Xinjiang
In Bayinbrook in autumn, the grasslands begin to turn yellow, and the river with nine twists and turns shines silver in the sunlight, like a crack in the earth. This is a paradise for photography enthusiasts, but it is also the most physical test.
⏰ Arrive at the entrance of the scenic spot two hours before sunset, buy tickets and take the section car in, about 50 minutes drive, rush to stand on the observation deck before the sun sets.
⚠️ The observation typhoon is windy, the temperature is 10 degrees lower than the mountain, thick jacket must be brought. Bayinbrook tickets plus shuttle bus for $140. After watching the sunset, the last shuttle bus is at 9:30 pm. Don’t miss it. Autumn in the Taklimakan Desert is even more extreme, with skin aching during the day and teeth chattering from the cold at night. To take pictures of Huyanglin, go to Tarim Huyanglin Park, the leaves are all yellow in late October, the ticket is 45 dollars, but the park is very large, it is recommended to drive in, stop while walking.
🍜 Take a night off in the city of Korla, eat toasted buns and hand-grabbed rice, the lamb is tender and tasteless, with a cup of brick tea to quench your thirst. This line is suitable for people with good physical strength. The whole journey is tiring, but every glance is worth the fare.
08 Meizhou | Guangdong
The autumn when the wild geese fly to the tea fields is a refreshing feeling rarely seen in Guangdong. Layered tea fields spread from the top of the mountain to the foot of the mountain, and the scent of tea in the wind makes people unconsciously slow down.
🚄 Take a taxi from Meizhou West Station for about 30 minutes, 50 dollars. The ticket to the scenic spot is 80 dollars, the sightseeing car is 20 dollars one way, I suggest walking up the mountain, walk the tea field canyon, about 40 minutes, all the way you can see the tea pickers working.
⏰ The light is softest after 3pm, the green of the tea field is distinct in the sun, suitable for photography.
🍜 There is a tea art parlor in the scenic area, free tea tasting, buy or not at will, but do not buy bulk tea, the quality varies. After going down the mountain, go to Yan Nan Fei Wai Dragon Restaurant for Hakka cuisine. Stuffed tofu and salt-baked chicken are the signature dishes. You can eat your meal for $60 per person.
⚠️ The scenic spot clears at 5:30 pm, don't be too late. If you want to stay one night, there are hotels in the scenic area, room fees include tickets, but the value for money is average, I recommend back to the city to live, Meizhou city area is not big, at night to the old street to eat pickled noodles soup, 10 dollars a bowl, with third and third soup, comfortable. The whole tea field is 3 hours after walking, suitable for parents or couples.
