These rime flowers are a "fleeting blossom" created by nature over the course of an entire night. When night falls and the temperature, humidity, and other conditions are just right, the rime flowers quietly bloom. They take on various shapes; some resemble blooming flowers, while others look like sparkling coral, growing freely on the branches and railings along the riverbank, decorating the entire riverside in a dreamlike and magical way. When the sun rises and warm sunlight pours down, these beautiful rime flowers gradually melt away, as if nature is playing a romantic game with people. Visitors who come here can witness this fleeting beauty with their own eyes, feel the wonder and generosity of nature, and be filled with surprise and emotion. On December 23, 2025, Changchun experienced a moderate snowfall. The next day was sunny with a bit of rime. Here’s a half-day car ride + hiking sightseeing and photo route I like at Jingyue Pool: First, enter from the main gate at 8:30 AM, walk on the right side, and at the first intersection, go in a short distance to see the lotus pond on the left. This area is beautiful and less crowded, perfect for taking some photos nearby. (Photos 2, 3, 4) Then walk along the water forward, after seeing the corridor, pass through it and return to the main gate to take the sightseeing bus. It costs 20 yuan with unlimited rides, and the bus comes about every 10 minutes. (Photo 5) Get off at the first stop, Dam West Station, check in and take photos at the iconic pavilion of Jingyue Pool, and stroll around the dam for photos. (If you have good stamina and don’t mind the cold, you can walk along the pool from here to the Overflow Bay Station, about 15 minutes, but it’s better to save your energy.) Get off at the second stop, Overflow Bay Station. If lucky, you can see rime here. It’s recommended to check the weather conditions (look at relative humidity, temperature, and wind the night before). As of December 25 this year, there is no blue ice here yet. The route from Dam West Station to Black Pine Forest Station is my second favorite hiking route. It’s very comfortable to walk casually and also great for running. (Photos 6, 7, 8, 9) Get off at the third stop, Wangtan Square Station. This place is very open, and you can also see the Jingyue Ski Resort. It’s not far from here to the Vasa Ice and Snow Museum, about 8 minutes on foot. (Photo 10) Get off at the fourth stop, Vasa Ice and Snow Museum. This year there is a cross-country skiing area nearby. The yellow small houses are also quite photogenic. You don’t need to spend too much time at this stop. (Photos 11, 12) Get off at the fifth stop, Wetland Park Station. The section from here to One Tree Station is my favorite hiking route. The scenery is open with continuous curves, and the sun feels warm. Walking this section takes about 20-25 minutes. Yesterday, I was the only one walking this part, it was so comfortable. (Photos 13, 14, 15) After finishing this section and taking photos and playing along the way, I felt a bit tired. It was about noon. After boarding at One Tree Station, you can ride all the way to the end. After getting off, it’s a 5-minute walk to the entrance to exit the park. Friends with good stamina can also get off at Moon Bay Station, slide along the small path at Moon Bay to the east side of the dam, and then stroll back to the gate to exit the park.
