Wuliang Mountain Nature Reserve Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Wuliang Mountain: Whether it's the world of martial arts or the mundane world, go to the Cherry Blossom Valley for tea in winter
Wuliang Mountain, formerly known as Mengle Mountain, is located in the western part of Jingdong County, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, in the middle of the "Western Yunnan Longitudinal Valley Zone". It runs through Nanjian, Jingdong, Zhenyuan, Jinggu and other places. The mountains here are high and the valleys are deep, with a warm and humid climate. The peaks are majestic and beautiful, with overlapping ridges and peaks towering into the clouds; ancient trees reach the sky, blocking the sun; mountain flowers are everywhere, and small rivers flow. It is known as the "gene bank of the animal and plant kingdom", "famous mountains and rivers", and "fairy traces and Buddha traces", and is a national nature reserve.
The towering Wuliang and the surging Lancang have created a beautiful and magical valley that reflects the blue sky and white clouds, accompanies the green mountains and green waters, and paints a magnificent picture. In winter, all flowers wither, only chrysanthemums stand out, but Wuliang Mountain is an exception. The winter cherry blossoms in the Cherry Blossom Valley here will bloom among the tea mountains at the end of November, with splendid cherry blossoms covering 2000 acres, which is particularly spectacular.
Wuliang Mountain is a nature reserve for wild animals and is one of the famous mountains in Yunnan. Wuliang Mountain is known as the "Little Huangshan". The highest peak, Cat Head Mountain, is located in the western part of Jingdong County. Within the county, there is the Wuliang Mountain Nature Reserve, which is famous at home and abroad. In the Huangcaoling area of Wuliang Mountain, you can see special plants, including Yunnan fir, lover tree, arrow bamboo forest, king rhododendron, and wild tea tree.
Many people know Wuliang Mountain through Mr. Jin Yong's martial arts novel "The Dragon Babu". Duan Yu accidentally entered the Wuliang Sword Lake Palace and obtained the martial arts secret book to practice the unique skill of "Lingbo Weibu". It is the description of the magnificent scenery of Wuliang Mountain that allows us to appreciate the beautiful mountains and beautiful scenery of Wuliang across thousands of mountains and rivers. Whether it is the turbulent river or the endless cliffs, they all occupy the limelight under Mr. Jin Yong's pen.
On the edge of the Wuliang Mountain Nature Reserve, there is a fairyland that is extremely similar to the book. The trees here are lush, the cliffs are steep, and looking into the distance, you can only see a huge waterfall hanging between the mountains like a jade belt, pouring down from the top of the mountain at a high speed, splashing pearls and jade, majestic and spectacular. The waterfall that falls straight down follows the cliff and falls into the clear lake. This is the "Wuliang Sword Lake" where the sword dances and the shadows play.
The peaks of Wuliang Mountain are towering and green, and the vegetation is dense. It has the best ecological environment for the growth of large-leaf tea trees, and the clouds and mist are lingering all year round. The quality of tea is superior. It has been a famous ancient tea mountain in the upper reaches of the Lancang River and an important place of origin for high-quality Pu'er tea since ancient times. The tea trees of Wuliang Mountain have evolved from wild types and natural hybrids to modern group varieties. Each form of tea tree has corresponding tea plant plants. The tea resources are relatively rich. It is a natural museum of tea variety resource evolution. In addition, due to sufficient sunlight and abundant rainfall, the tea tree has a long growth cycle, which makes the tea content of Wuliang Mountain diverse, the tea amino acid content is high, and the tea polyphenol content is moderate, forming a mellow taste and long-lasting fragrance. Quality characteristics.
The Cherry Blossom Valley of Wuliang Mountain is known as the "first place to welcome spring". Every year from late November to mid-December, the Cherry Blossom Valley is full of flowers, and the cherry blossoms are blooming, becoming the first fragrance in the severe winter. Initially, the introduction of cherry blossoms was just to shade the tender tea tree seedlings, but unexpectedly, the willows were planted unintentionally, and the large cherry trees all over the mountain not only have the function of shading and cooling, but also add a bright landscape to the Wuliang Mountain in winter.
Walking into the valley, surrounded by mountains, the delicate winter cherry blossoms are dotted in the green tea garden, forming a piece. The clouds and mist in the valley are lingering, and the pink is looming, like a shy girl with a half-covered face, only revealing a bit of beauty in the dim light, which is so beautiful that it is indescribable. Wandering in the cherry blossoms, those flower buds full of branches, and the flowers that are about to bloom, sway their bodies in the breeze, making people feel pity. The cherry blossoms of Wuliang Mountain are natural and uncarved. They use the original mountain forest as the background and coexist with the natural tea garden, composing a charming movement of winter cherry blossoms.
Wuliang Mountain is known for its majesty, strangeness, danger, and beauty, which makes countless people yearn for and indulge in it...

ancient horse road in Puer
The Tea and Horse Road of Southwest China, aka the " Silk Road of Southwest China" – but called Chamagudao in Chinese (cha-ma-gu-dao = Tea-Horse-Ancient-Road) – is an old trade route that stretched east to west and south to north across southwest China. This ancient trade routes eventually came to be renowned for the two main commodities for which the routes were named: tea and horses, though there were other important commodities such as sugar and salt – but curiously, not silk – that were traded along these routes. Our own Tea Horse Road adventure began in the township of Pu'er, approximately 400 kilometers south of Kunming. The excursion passed through some of the mountains and steep valleys that are signatures of the Yunnan landscape. Eventually, the corn and wheat along the roadside gave way to bananas, rubber and, eventually, tea.
Exploring Pu'er...🤗
The ancient town at Tea Horse Road is relatively easy to get to by taxi or private car, as Pu'er is a small place and this is easy to find. Arriving here, we took a nice stroll along the canal and through the scenic old town area, stopping for iced coffee and lunch also. Prices are not expensive here, even though this is considered a tourist site. The buildings were great to look at, as well as the old ancient walls that are built around the old town. We came just before Chinese New Year, therefore the place wasn't that busy, especially in the afternoon we visited. If you are in Pu'er, then it's definitely a place to visit along with the tea museum and seeing a plantation. You should go to the tea museum first and learn about the history of this place before visiting, as it enables you to appreciate the historical perspective of this place. 🍵👘😋
