For those seeking a more adventurous experience, there's also an alternate jungle trail that begins about a quarter of the way up. ⏩ 💦🐛Gunung Pulai Waterfall After the hike, we headed to Gunung Pulai Waterfall, a peaceful recreational spot surrounded by lush rainforest. It's only a 15–20 minute (around 2 km) walk from the main entrance to reach the waterfall. The easy nature trail makes it suitable for most visitors. As a nature lover, this was my favourite part of the trip. The water was crystal clear, cool, and incredibly refreshing, while the tranquil surroundings made it the perfect place to relax and reconnect with nature. ⏩🌳☕ Rainforest Tree House Café We ended our forest getaway with a visit to Rainforest Tree House, a charming cafe located at the entrance of Gunung Pulai, beautifully integrated into its natural surroundings. Their handcrafted coffee was fantastic, and the wood-fired toast was simple yet absolutely delicious. Most people come to Eco Botanic for the shops, restaurants, and cafes around the area. I came for a coffee and ended up staying much longer than expected. This Starbucks stands out because of its spacious layout, comfortable seating, and relaxed atmosphere. It never felt crowded during my visit, making it a great place to unwind after a meal, catch up on some work, or simply watch people go by. The staff were friendly, service was efficient, and there was plenty of room whether you were alone or meeting friends. Not every memorable stop needs to be a hidden cafe or trendy coffee roaster. This is my second solo trip to JB and I decided to make it happen because it’s frankly not a place I like going by myself because it can get kind of dangerous at times but I took a bus there so it’s fine. 📍KSL Mall Didn’t know they had a direct bus from the checkpoint, it was convenient but the wait time was pretty long. I only paid 1.50rm as compared to taking a Grab over which I usually do and spending way more. 🍽️Lunch: CUAN YUE Malatang I am a huge mala lover so I had to try it. They count by weight so I got mainly vegetables and two sausages. The broth is on the milky side. 🥤Beverage: CHUCHAT They have a signature Seat Salt Milk Tea but I drank too much milk from the broth earlier. Instead, I opted for the Bottled Brewed Tea. It was jasmine and super refreshing. 💇♀️ Hair: Studio M Got a new haircut for a new look and Keratin treatment so that I have smooth, manageable hair. 🍽️Dinner: Tampoi Laksa Cafe If you like Nyona-style laksa, then this is for you because it’s very “lemak” meaning rich and full of coconut milk and flavours. They have otah too. 🥤Chill: Family Mart Back to KSL and got two drinks while waiting. I love their house brand bottled tea which contains 0% sugar and comes in Green tea, Oolong and Barley flavours. 🛌 Stay: Maplehome Before checking in there was a small convenience stall below where you can get drinks and snacks. This unit was interesting as it was split into two so the room was really small but it was comfortable enough for 2pax. Went out for drinks and karaoke and that was end of Day 1. Day 2: 🍽️Lunch: Ah Ma TeoChew Kuih This was honestly good. The Kuih was soft and the red bean smoothie was good too. I loved the salted egg which tasted fresh. 🛍️ Shopping: Redchilli Vintage Store Never done thrifting before but this top suited me well so I had to get it. Was a y2k kind of style. 🙏 Temple: Real Thai Amulet Here to pray or at least I attempted. Not a religious person but cool to check out. 🍽️Dinner: Hai Kah Lang Super famous fish soup. I loved the fish cake was very delicious and I still think about it this day. 🍽️Pahpai Steakhouse Ended the entire JB trip with raw oysters and watermelon juice. They have plenty of western options and many diners do go there to eat. Pulau Kukup isn’t just any island — it’s one of the largest uninhabited mangrove islands in the world! If you’re a nature lover, this is a must-visit spot. Located in Pontian, Pulau Kukup was gazetted as Johor National Park on 27 March 1997 and later recognised as a Ramsar Site on 31 January 2003 for its unique wetland ecosystem. The entire island is covered in mangrove forest, making it an important habitat for countless plant and animal species. These mangroves play a huge role in absorbing carbon and filtering pollutants, basically acting as one of Johor’s green “lungs.” There’s a 600-metre wooden boardwalk where you can stroll while soaking in the beauty of nature. For the best view, climb up the observation tower and you’ll get a full panoramic look at the island — though I have to admit, it’s pretty high and even I felt a bit dizzy going up! Tickets can be purchased at the ticket counter in the building opposite the Kukup Bus & Taxi Terminal. Malaysians pay RM5 for adults and RM3 for seniors, students, and kids, while non-Malaysians are charged RM20 for adults and RM10 for seniors and students. Kids under six and OKU (persons with disabilities) enter for free. A return boat ride costs RM10 per person. The park is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM (closed on Thursdays), with the last ticket sold at 3 PM and the last entry at 4 PM. From Kukup Jetty, you’ll take a short boat ride to the island.
