Root Palace Buddhist Culture Tourism Area
This park is a fantastic place which is worth visiting in Quzhou, Zhejiang Province. There is huge carving sculptures and great lakes with carving zoo animals museum. Also there is ice palace, where the temperature is lower than 0°degree. There is many sculptures made from ice cube. From October there is opened a glass bridge under the park and there is every day shows with light and music from 6.30 p.m. The prices are not cheap but I highly recommend to visit that place!
Cons: You have to come to Kaihua to experience it!
In today's society, information is open and transparent, and logistics are well-developed, so it's hard to find a good place that is not known or imitated by the outside world. But if you come to Kaihua, a small city in Zhejiang, you will definitely feel the same as I do: the things here cannot be copied by other cities, and you can only experience them in Kaihua.
.
🍲 Clear Water Fish & Kaihua Green Snail, the first time I came to Kaihua, these two delicacies really subverted my perception.
🐟 The old saying goes, "When the water is too clear, there are no fish," but in Kaihua, the farming of clear water fish can be traced back to the Northern Song Dynasty. Today, there is a Clear Water Fish Museum in Kaihua, and a Clear Water Fish Culture Festival is held. There are also folk customs such as "sticking fish tails," which are unique in the country.
🔩 Kaihua Green Snail is also not found elsewhere. This type of snail is relatively small, with green meat and a more delicate taste, making it irresistible.
📌 Root Palace Buddhist Kingdom, a 5A-level scenic spot in Kaihua, is very suitable for shooting Hanfu. By visiting the root carvings here, you can learn about the world! From gods and Buddhas to the twenty-four filial pieties; from the Qin King to the fifty-six ethnic groups, there are countless root carvings here, and each one is exquisitely carved and can withstand careful scrutiny. Unlike natural scenery, ancient villages, and towns, the world of root carvings is too costly and difficult to replicate elsewhere.
So, if you want to travel without following the trend and want to find a unique place, Kaihua is the right choice!
Hiking Baishijian, the highest peak in Kaihua, Quzhou.
Today, I finally climbed Baishijian, which took 5 hours in total. First, navigate to Linyuan Village, Kaihua, Quzhou, and ask the villagers for the entrance to Baishijian. According to the villagers' instructions, you can park your car in the parking lot at the entrance. There is a closed gate at the entrance, but you can enter from the side. Cars are not allowed to enter. There is a 5 km road from the gate to Zhongdashan, which is now paved with cement. You can drive up, but the gatekeeper said it is not safe, so cars are generally not allowed to enter. We had to talk to the gatekeeper for a long time before he agreed to let us drive to Waishan, and then walk 2.2 km from Waishan to Zhongdashan. From Zhongdashan, we started climbing. The dirt road has been paved with cement steps to the ridge, but we still prefer to walk on the original dirt road. From the ridge to the top of the mountain, it is all rocky road. The last two peaks are on the cliffs, with a deep abyss under your feet, and cold sweat on your back. We have climbed many mountains, but this is the first time we have encountered such a thrilling and exciting peak. I believe that no one dares to claim to be the first if it claims to be the second.
Baishijian is the highest peak in Kaihua, with an altitude of 1,453.7 meters. The mountain is full of beautiful pines, amazing rocks, unpredictable clouds, and rhododendron forests. In the cool autumn, climbing Baishijian, the beautiful scenery will make you linger. Kaihua, Quzhou

Zhejiang is a great place with mountains, rivers, cities, and forests. The autumn scenery is in full swing. I recently discovered a hidden gem, which is very low-key and not well-known. I want to recommend it to you 10,000 times.

Rohan Hall in Gen Palace Buddha Kingdom, the hall with the most root carvings.
There are more than 20,000 root carvings in Quzhou Gen Palace Buddha Kingdom Cultural Tourism Zone. The largest root carving is a 9.9-meter-high, 40-ton Shakyamuni Buddha, while the hall with the most root carvings is the Five Hundred Arhats Hall.
The five hundred arhats are all on display, with a majestic momentum, stretching for more than 680 meters, arranged in a square shape along the corridor. The overall layout is thick and ancient, and it is known as the best in China and the best in the world. If you stop for a minute in front of each arhat, you won't be able to get out of this arhat formation in eight hours.
The arhats are either in groups of three or five, or sitting alone; whispering or meditating with their eyes closed; scratching their ears and cheeks, or looking solemn... Five hundred arhats, five hundred expressions, both the mystery of the Buddha and the variety of life.
These five hundred arhats were created by Master Xu Guqing after more than ten years of careful preparation and a huge investment to collect thousand-year-old longan and lychee wood root piles from all over the country.

Gengong Buddha Country Children's Fun Park, the animals here are ferocious and gentle.
There is a unique zoo in the world in the Kaihuagen Palace Buddha Kingdom Children's Fun Park in Quzhou, Zhejiang. The animals inside are tall and mighty, with teeth and claws showing. They look scary, but are actually gentle. Because no matter how much you tease it, it will just pretend to be angry.
These animals, both physical and spiritual, are all carved from tree roots. There are more than 300 species of mythical and legendary animals, extinct animals, rare animals and ordinary animals, forming a root-carved "Crazy Animal City".
There are dinosaurs from 500 million years ago, extinct prehistoric mammoths, lively and cute kangaroos, agile antelopes, elegant giraffes, cute and cute koalas, tall and majestic elephants, majestic tigers, and other shapes of all kinds. The twelve zodiac signs, various marine creatures...each animal is carved lifelike, and it seems that only one person is missing the "finishing touch".
These animals are located in the Root Palace Buddha Country Children's Fun Park, which is the only children's fun park in the world with the theme of "root" culture. The animals in the hall are either happy or sad; they love each other or they fight; they are fierce or docile... They are all much taller than the prototypes. Even a small cicada can grow to over half a meter tall. .
Although this zoo is designed for children, it is suitable for all ages, middle-aged, young and young. Tourists can easily find happiness and acquire knowledge.

My favorite hotels in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai.
Jiangnan is a treasure trove of travel destinations, always full of unexpected beauty and surprises.
It is different from the vastness of Xinjiang, the magnificence of Yunnan, the homogenized beaches, or the uniqueness of the Changbai volcano.
But this land has been endowed with the charm of literati and scholars for thousands of years, and the elegance of walking between mountains and rivers. Everyone who has been to Jiangnan has an unspeakable praise for this paradise on earth.
It is hard to say exactly what is good about Jiangnan, but it is just so likable. It may be the gentleness of Jiangnan people nurtured by the drizzle, or the romance brought by the hot tea.
Growing up in the north, I have always yearned for the romance of Jiangnan, so I have always loved discovering the beauty of this place.
This time, I discovered the FanJie XingSu Gaotian Resort in Kaihua County, Quzhou, Zhejiang. It is a resort built from an ancient village with a thousand-year history. I stayed at the Jinshang Yunsu XingSu Gaotian Hotel in the resort. To preserve the original flavor, each room is transformed from an old house in the ancient village.
I stayed here for two days, and the facilities in the resort are very complete, including restaurants, cafes, bookstores, photo studios, handicraft workshops, etc. As it is a stargazing sanctuary, there is also a planetarium on the top of the mountain. It is so pleasant for a family or a few friends to come here and relax for two days.
The resort is located at the junction of Zhejiang, Anhui, and Jiangxi provinces, and is close to Shangrao, Wuyuan, Jingdezhen, and Huangshan, so you can visit them all in one trip. Before driving here, you will also pass by the "Potala Palace of Jiangnan" Taihui Mountain, which is also a great place to see the high mountain terraces and rapeseed flowers in spring. The scenery in this area is truly unique.
A Journey of Art and Zen at the Root Palace Buddhist Kingdom
The Root Palace Buddhist Kingdom is renowned for its exquisite root carving art, resembling a wooden Buddhist kingdom on earth, filled with craftsmanship and Zen. Upon entering the scenic area, one is immediately captivated by the unique artistic atmosphere. Massive wooden sculptures are scattered throughout the park, as if each piece of wood has been given life, coexisting harmoniously with nature. The park exudes a strong Buddhist ambiance, with intricately carved Buddha statues radiating serenity, bringing a sense of peace and detachment from the worldly chaos.
Wandering along the winding paths, each root carving piece tells a unique story and conveys a distinct artistic conception. Some symbolize scenes from Buddhist stories, while others depict the vitality of nature. These master sculptors use natural tree roots as their material, transforming wood into lifelike Buddha statues and landscape scenes, showcasing their creativity and respect for the material. Whether it's the majestic Buddha statues or the delicate carvings of flowers and birds, the details are meticulous and lifelike, making this wooden world seem like a miniature pure land of Buddhism.
In the Root Palace Buddhist Kingdom, strolling among these artworks brings a sense of spiritual cleansing. This place is not just a venue for displaying root carvings but also a spiritual haven for contemplating and experiencing Buddhist Zen. Each piece seems to narrate the wisdom of Buddhism, drawing people into the intersection of art and the soul. This visit to the Root Palace Buddhist Kingdom is not only a visual feast but also a profound journey of soul purification and inner peace.

Kaihua Changhong Township Zhenzikeng Village
Changhong Township established a special team to promote the Xingxu Gaotian project, and cooperated with Kaihua County Liangshan Investment Group Co., Ltd. to focus on the transformation of 44 farmhouses in Gaotiankeng, using the unique starry sky resources to create a high-end homestay cluster with the theme of "starry sky". It is jointly operated by three well-known domestic homestay brands, Jinshangyun Inn, Guoyun Mountain House and Weichi. After the trial operation in 2023, Xingxu Gaotian was loved by tourists.
The air here is clear, and light pollution is almost zero. In summer, you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye, and in winter, Orion is also clearly visible. The rammed earth outer wall and black tiles have a traditional and original appearance, but the inside is different. The interior design of the room combines the rammed earth architectural features of the Zhexi region. The textured space is like breathing. The oversized floor-to-ceiling windows enhance the transparency of the space. The color adopts the original wood color that fits the mountain and wild, and the sight is always attracted by the green outside the house. The two neutralize each other to form a self-contained space.
The free and transparent dining environment, you can see the swaying green bamboo outside the window at any time, the mountain game plus the mountain fun, add a sense of ritual to the dining experience. Clear water fish is a famous dish, milky white fresh soup, firm meat, every bite is meaty. The food and vegetables that blend the dietary characteristics of Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Fujian absorb the aura of mountains and rivers, and simple cooking is top-notch delicious. In order to meet the needs of modern people, it has added a variety of formats such as restaurants, cafes, and village fairs, allowing tourists to not only watch the starry sky here, but also play in Gaotiankeng, allowing tourists to stay here and play well.

In Quzhou! Sleep in a thousand-year-old village where you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye.
As a brand with a unique design aesthetic, it reconstructs and defines new lines and spaces in the countryside, in the fields, on the mountainside, and by the water. From Tonglu Weichi·Qianshan to Zhangjiajie's Weichi·Suyunjian... "Weichi" brings beautiful places into our view, just to find the softest place to stay in our hearts. The Weichi Star House, full of Zhejiang West rammed earth architectural style, is inspired by various starry sky themes, such as Venus, Vega, Changgeng, Yaoguang, and Niulang. Each house retains the original rammed earth exterior wall and black tile features of the ancient village, and at the same time cleverly integrates the local traditional architectural style for innovative transformation. Those old wooden plug doors, rattan chairs and wooden furniture not only retain the historical charm of the house, but also give them new life.

In addition, Gaotiankeng is surrounded by mountains, and light pollution is almost zero. It is a natural dark night area certified by the International Dark Night Astronomy Organization. The Dark Night Park has the highest-altitude observatory and a star-watching camping base, which can provide professional astronomical telescopes and other star-watching equipment, and is an excellent activity venue for carrying out astronomical popular science education and research.
Quzhou Impressions: Chinese culture as recorded in root carvings.
After leaving the second area of the Root Palace Buddha Kingdom, we arrived at the third area, the Chinese Culture Root Carving Art Museum.
There was an event going on here, with lion dances, children creating calligraphy and paintings on site, and explanations and introductions. It felt like a provincial or even national event.
Although there were more people here than in the first and second areas, it didn't affect those of us who really wanted to visit.
What attracted me most about this museum was the series of root carvings "Daoxing Tianxia" that recorded Laozi's life from birth, study, growth to preaching. After a tour, I took pictures of this group of root carvings and shared them with the readers who are destined to read them.
Another interesting thing is that the root carving art records the living conditions and classic customs of 56 ethnic groups. I took special pictures of the root carving displays of the Han, Mongolian, Manchu, Gaoshan, and Oroqen ethnic groups.
In the Chinese Culture Root Carving Art Museum, you can not only appreciate the art of root carving, but also learn more about the condensed history of Chinese civilization and the living conditions of various ethnic groups. It's worth reading carefully.

This overlooked 5A scenic spot is amazing, featuring a world of wood
When it comes to handicrafts, many people are familiar with them. These are items with certain artistic attributes that can meet the daily needs of the people, possessing both decorative and functional qualities. Handicrafts originate from people's lives but create value beyond life itself, representing the crystallization of human wisdom and modern industrial technology.
In our daily lives, handicrafts come in many varieties, including wood, ivory, bamboo, carbon, jade carving, colored carving, resin, cultural walnuts, ceramics, paper cutting, and more, all of which have stunning finished products.
Especially wood carvings, such as rosewood, boxwood, pearwood, almond wood, and camphor wood, which possess all the advantages of carving. These are top-quality materials suitable for carving complex structures and intricate shapes. They are also less likely to break or get damaged during production and preservation, making them highly collectible.
So, where should one go to experience the charm of handicrafts, especially wood carvings? Uncle Cricket suggests visiting an overlooked 5A scenic spot that is amazing, featuring a world of wood, known as the 'First Wonder Garden in the World.' If you like it, you should definitely visit!

Why choose to go to Gaotiankeng Village❓
✅This is a truly super niche thousand-year-old village
The ancient village is hidden in the deep mountains, with only a dozen households living here all year round😜. My friends and I stayed here for a night, and there were so few tourists, it was so peaceful😃!
✅The best stargazing spot in East China
Gaotiankeng Village is located on the terraced fields at an altitude of 680 meters in Kaihua, Quzhou😜, surrounded by mountains, with almost zero light pollution, making it a natural dark zone in astronomy😎! Standing on the specially built stargazing platform, you can easily see the Milky Way with the naked eye, it's so cool😃!
✅Rich and varied play experience
Today, this thousand-year-old village has been revitalized and transformed into the "Fanjie·Xingsu Gaotian Resort"😜, not only retaining its original ecology but also adding many fun activities. Starry sky coffee, villagers' market, planetarium, Kan Book House...
✅"Potala Palace of Jiangnan" is here
The Taihui Mountain at the foot of the mountain is known as the "Potala Palace of Jiangnan"😜. Although it is not the season for rapeseed flowers, it is still quite stunning from a distance😃!
·
Accommodation🏠
We stayed at Jinshang Yun Su·Xingsu Gaotian in the village this time. The exterior is restored rammed earth houses, and the interior is modern, bright, and cozy, very comfortable to stay in😜.
🍜Food:
🔸The village retains a very simple way of life, with every household digging ponds to raise clear water fish at their doorsteps, and spring water flowing through every household, which is quite interesting😜!
🔸Villagers raise fish in the ponds at their doorsteps, and when they need to cook, they catch them, turning them into the most famous "clear water fish" in Kaihua on the dining table😃.
🔸Take a sip of the milky white fish soup, the taste is as fresh and long-lasting as milk; pick up a piece of fish, the texture is incredibly delicate😜!
Other tips🔖
✔️The mountain road is winding and narrow, be very careful when driving up the mountain, pay attention to safety😲!
✔️The scenery is beautiful whether it's sunny or cloudy, but to see the starry sky, try to choose a clear day for a better view😁!
✔️Accommodation is quite tight, if you can book in advance, do so quickly😜!
✔️If driving, it is recommended to go up the mountain during the day, as there are almost no street lights along the way, it can be a bit dangerous at night😎!
✔️There is a camping site next to the planetarium, which charges a fee. If you pay for camping, the owner will drive to the village parking lot to pick you up, the service is quite good😃!
Jiuxi Longmen
'Jiuxi Longmen' features brows-like mountains and silk-like waters. It boasts not only beautiful natural attractions such as Hidden Dragon Valley, Peach Grove Revival, Old Dragon Source, and Natural Dragon Pool, but also cultural landscapes like rustic inns, the ancestral hall of the Yue Kingdom, Mingfeng Hall, and Wai Shan ancient village. Additionally, there are man-made facilities like flying dragons in the sky, fish leaping over the dragon gate across the sky bridge, and water slides along the creek and mountain dragon path, earning it the reputation of 'Jiuxi Longmen Tai Chi Village, the golden house of earth buildings in the south of the Yangtze River'.
Travel and leisure, the tung flowers in Kaihua are blooming
Every May, the tung flowers all over the mountains in Kaihua will compete to bloom. Clusters of pure white flowers form continuous patches, just like snow covering one mountain after another.
In the dense forest, the fragrance of flowers lingers and the air seems exceptionally fresh and pleasant. The trunks of the tung trees stand tall, and the canopies stretch out to their heart's content. The tung blossoms bloom with a reserved and delicate beauty, pure white and elegant, truly inspiring endless affection. When the breeze carries the drizzle, the mature petals fall like flying snow, gently covering the ground, laying a pristine white carpet on the forest paths.
Beside the mountain road, the stream tinkles, and occasionally tung flower petals fall into the water. The white tung flowers bob along the winding stream, drifting leisurely, taking away the solitude of the mountains.
The tung flowers cover the mountains, weaving into a dreamy and enchanting sea of flowers. If one were to fly a drone and look down from above, the tung flowers would seem like white clouds scattered from the sky, rippling in the green ocean, deeply conveying the gentleness and beauty of nature. It's as if the earth's tenderness is quietly blooming, each tung flower a moving poem left by nature.
These tung flowers all over the mountains create a unique romantic floral event in Kaihua in May, becoming an extremely beautiful landscape in the mountains.
Qianjiangyuan is truly a blessed land for those who are enamored with mountains and rivers
As soon as I set foot on this land, I was struck by the successive waterfalls. Their diverse forms are shaped by the varying heights of the terrain, some cascading straight down, others meandering gently. The shallow and deep pools also change their colors and shapes due to the different colors and shapes of the rocks, creating a dreamlike and wondrous scene.
It is hard to imagine that it is these waterfalls, pools, and trickling streams that eventually converge into the mighty Qiantang River, and even the awe-inspiring Qianjiang Tide. The ancient saying after witnessing the Qianjiang Tide, 'It seems as if the vast ocean has turned into nothingness amidst the thunderous drumming sounds,' is incredibly apt. Indeed, without the quiet accumulation of the ordinary days, how could there be such a magnificent momentum? The most ordinary water possesses the most incredible power.
There is also the tributary of the Qiantang River, the Qinjiang, and many unnamed streams and springs, all of which are uniformly clear and turquoise. This is undoubtedly an invaluable treasure of Kaihua! It is said that the negative ion count beside the waterfalls in the forest is the highest, many times more than that in the cities. The Qianjiangyuan Forest Park is like a giant green lung, perfectly fitting the world trend of green leisure tourism today.
Qianjiangyuan, indeed, is a blessed land for those who are enamored with mountains and rivers. To be able to come here and experience all this beauty is truly a great fortune in life. I am intoxicated by it and find it hard to forget for a long time.
China's most beautiful water highway
The ancient Zhao Road in Xingshan County, Hubei Province, the hometown of Zhaojun, is 10.9 kilometers long and 12 meters wide, and is known as China's most beautiful water highway. This water eco-friendly highway was built to avoid mountain destruction and deforestation, and to protect the ecological environment, with 4 kilometers constructed in the valley streams. Looking from the observation deck, towering mountains and ever-flowing clear waters can be seen, with the road winding like a dragon over the Xiangxi River. Its spectacular shape and graceful curves add a strong impetus to the tourism industry of Zhaojun's hometown.
A bend of clear nostalgia
Spring Outing Memoir | Xia Yu Village, Kaihua, one of China's top ten most beautiful villages. The source of the Qiantang River, where the stream is crystal clear. Thousand-year-old camphor trees, pastoral breezes. Rural homestays, simple yet exquisite. A wonderland in the green fields, an earthly paradise.
To avoid the crowds during the May Day holiday, I recommend this off-the-beaten-path ancient village that has been around for a thousand years
May Day is just around the corner, and everywhere is crowded with people.
Here you can find:
✅ A tranquil and elegant ancient village that dates back a thousand years.
✅ A sky full of stars, utterly romantic.
✅ Beautiful mountains and clear waters, perfect for hiking and breathing in nature.
✅ An extremely comfortable living environment, ideal for lying flat.
This is Kaihua's Gaotiankeng Village.
It is known as "China's most beautiful starry sky ancient village"
It is the best place for stargazing in the East China region
It is also one of the only six Chinese Dark Night Sky Preserves in the country
The village has a starry sky library, starry sky cafe, and starry sky accommodations, etc.
The ancient village is hidden deep in the mountains, but it is fully equipped
The original rammed earth houses preserve the ancient way of life
For example, the "ancient method of fish farming" that has been passed down from 1300 years ago
If you want to have a few quiet days or don't want to work anymore
Consider staying here for a couple of days
❤️ Attractions:
✅ Planetarium: Very suitable for bringing children to experience the changes in the universe and gain knowledge
✅ Starry Sky Library: An old house renovated, perfect for leisurely reading
✅ Ancient Method of Fish Farming: This is a feature of Gaotiankeng Village, with many along the stream
✅ Stargazing Platform: At night, the glow stones and the starry sky complement each other, super romantic
✅ Starry Sky Coffee Shop: Have a coffee in the ancient village, this place is also great for taking photos
✅ Specialty Farmhouse Restaurant: Local specialties to eat, the vegetables are homegrown, and the home-cooked dishes are delicious
❤️ Nearby is also the Taihui Mountain, known as the "Jiangnan Potala Palace", with villages on the terraces. Although the beautiful rapeseed flower season has passed, the rainy days are shrouded in mist, like a fairyland
🏡 Accommodation:
I stayed at the Jinshangyun Residence, right in Gaotiankeng Village. The room is connected to the fields, and opening the window reveals a field of lush greenery. The room is also very spacious, with brand new facilities. If it rains, the sound of the rain combined with the nearby stream is perfect white noise for inducing sleep
🚗 Transportation:
Navigate to "Fanjie·Xingxu Gaotian" by car, there is a parking lot at the entrance of the village
📢 Notes:
1️⃣ Accommodations are in high demand, try to book in advance
2️⃣ The mountain roads are quite narrow, be careful not to scrape your car
3️⃣ If you go, try to choose a sunny day, so you can see the starry sky

The world looks to China for root carving, and China looks here for root carving
The hidden gems of Zhejiang are too numerous, and I was amazed by the Kaihua Root Palace Buddha Country! Even braving the rain to go was worth it☔️
👀About Root Palace Buddha Country:
A 5A scenic area with a vast area✨, it is currently the only one in the world🌍 themed on 'root carving culture' cultural tourism area‼️
✨Main attractions:
✅Root Carving
The world looks to China for root carving, and China looks to Kaihua for root carving. It must be said that the root carving works inside are truly exquisite and ingeniously crafted🫣
The largest root carving of Sakyamuni, the main Buddha, weighs more than 40 tons and is 9.9 meters tall, which can be called the heaviest in the world‼️ The corridor of the Five Hundred Arhats root carvings is even more breathtaking. Each Buddha statue has a different expression, and the character's portrayal is integrated with the natural shape of the tree roots, which is really magical✨✨✨
⚠️However... there are really too many root carvings, and you might get a bit of aesthetic fatigue after seeing too many😑😑😑 so there's no need to see them all👋
✅Garden Landscape
The root carvings are already amazing, but what attracts me more is the architectural landscape of the scenic area‼️ The scenic area is really super large, like a large garden! Bonsai, strange rocks, vegetation, lakes, a different view at every step, full of artistic conception
It was still raining when I went🌧️ Walking in the misty garden, watching the blooming magnolia flowers, feeling the breath of spring, who understands this feeling🥹
✅Glass Bridge
There are some charged items in the scenic area, and I think the glass bridge is still worth checking out! You can overlook the scenic area and capture a panoramic view! 60💰, it was half price at 30 when I went🫣
⏰Tour Duration: 3-4 hours
🎫Ticket: Free admission in March
🐶Pets: Not allowed, but dogs can be kept at the north gate
📍Address: No.1 Gen Palace Buddha Country Road, Kaihua, Quzhou, Zhejiang
🚄Transportation: Self-driving🚗 is more convenient, public transportation can take the high-speed train to Quzhou, then take the bus from Quzhou to Kaihua Bus Station, and then walk about 1 kilometer to arrive.
Avoid the crowds! Head to these lesser-known cities on the 1st of September
