This park is a fantastic place which is worth visiting in Quzhou, Zhejiang Province. There is huge carving sculptures and great lakes with carving zoo animals museum. Also there is ice palace, where the temperature is lower than 0°degree. There is many sculptures made from ice cube. From October there is opened a glass bridge under the park and there is every day shows with light and music from 6.30 p.m. The prices are not cheap but I highly recommend to visit that place!

Turn into Bo’ai Road and find a breakfast stall called “Yamei.” 🍜 A bowl of Hainan rice noodles with pickled vegetable soup costs just 8 yuan and will fill you up. After eating, stroll to Wugong Temple. 🎫 The ticket is 20 yuan. It’s quiet and breezy inside. Sit under the ancient trees for half an hour and watch the light crawl through the stone slabs. The driver is Tibetan and sings softly. When you arrive at the viewing platform at dawn, Everest looks like a huge crystal floating on the horizon. ⏰ Clouds are rare from July to September. Sometimes you can see the golden sun on the mountain. No one shouts. It’s so quiet you only hear the wind. If time is limited, visit Tashilhunpo Monastery instead. 🎫 Tickets are 40 yuan. It’s similar to Lhasa’s Sera Monastery but with fewer tourists. In the afternoon, monks debate philosophy. The sunlight slants across the water, shifting the color from light blue to emerald. Kids can’t help but scream with excitement. ⚠️ It’s windy up there, so remember to bring a jacket for the kids, even in August. 🍜 By the lake, Tibetan moms sell yak milk tea for 10 yuan a cup. It’s warm and will chase away the chill. There are no tour group loudspeakers here, only the sound of wind and waves lapping the shore. Perfect for zoning out all afternoon. 02 Yichang | Hubei Yichang’s summer is several degrees cooler than Wuhan, making it perfect for kids to play in the water. ⏰ Enter the Three Gorges Family scenic area at 9 AM when it just opens. There are few people, and you can hear the boatmen’s songs echoing through the canyon. 📍 For the Qingjiang Gallery, take the A-line boat route. It takes about 4 hours. Kids can lie on the deck watching the cliffs on both sides, with egrets flying by now and then. ⚠️ Wear a raincoat at the Three Gorges Waterfall! Don’t take chances. Under the waterfall, the mist is overwhelming, and you’ll need to protect your camera. 🍜 Don’t eat lunch in the scenic area. Head to the city and find a small restaurant called “Ziji Ren.” Order a pot of Qingjiang fatty fish soup. The fish is as tender as tofu, and the broth is perfect with rice. Kids will want an extra bowl. 🚄 It’s 1.5 hours by high-speed train from Wuhan, so you can make a weekend round trip. 03 Jiuquan | Gansu Who says summer vacation has to be at the beach? Taking kids to the desert to stargaze is way cooler. 📍 At Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring, go after 6 PM when the sand isn’t hot. Camel rides cost about 100 yuan per round. Kids sitting on the camels laugh with excitement the whole time. ⏰ You must book tickets to the Mogao Caves at least a month in advance! I arrived at 8 AM and there was already a long line, but inside, the kids stared quietly at the flying celestial beings in the murals like adults. ⚠️ There’s no shade in Yadan National Geological Park. Bring plenty of water and reapply sunscreen every two hours. 🚄 From Jiuquan city to the scenic area, a taxi costs about 150 yuan one way. You can hire a driver for the day to make it easier. At night, lying on Mingsha Mountain, the Milky Way is so clear it looks like you can reach out and grab it. 04 Heihe | Heilongjiang Heihe is seriously underrated. In summer, visit Wudalianchi, where it’s cool enough to wear long sleeves. 📍 Climbing Laoheshan volcano crater takes about 40 minutes. Kids can step on volcanic rocks and listen to the wind rushing through the cracks. ⏰ Go soak your feet in the cold mineral spring at Yaquan Mountain at 2 PM. The water is ice cold, like it just came out of the fridge, but after soaking, your whole body feels relaxed. 🍜 Try the local mineral spring tofu sold at street stalls. It’s firmer than regular tofu and tastes amazing dipped in chili sauce. ⚠️ Don’t go to Wenbo around 3 or 4 PM. The light is blocked by the mountain, so photos come out gray and dull. How few people are here? I walked the entire boardwalk and only saw two locals fishing. 05 Quzhou | Zhejiang Quzhou is Zhejiang’s least trendy spot but the best for a slow stroll with kids. 📍 At Kaihua Gen Palace Buddhist Culture, you’ll find root-carved Buddha statues. The largest is over 10 meters tall. Kids standing below look up and shout in awe. ⏰ I suggest going in the morning when sunlight streams through the skylight, casting compassionate expressions on the statues’ faces. 🍜 For lunch, visit Nianbadu Ancient Town and find a place called “Guzhai.” Order a copper gong cake and tofu pudding. The cake is made from glutinous rice, mildly sweet and not greasy. ⚠️ Climbing Jianglang Mountain takes 2 hours. If you have kids, just go to Yixiantian (One Line Sky). Beyond that are steep steps. 🚄 It’s 1 hour by high-speed train from Hangzhou, but here, there’s no crowding. 06 Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture | Sichuan Jiuzhaigou in summer is as green as if someone spilled a paint palette. ⏰ Be sure to enter the valley by 7:30 AM. The first stop is Five Flower Lake, where the water is as calm as a mirror, reflecting snow-capped mountains and trees. Kids will squat on the boardwalk, staring at the fish for a long time. 📍 At Siguniang Mountain, I went to Changping Valley. Rent a horse and ride in with a guide. The kid sat in front, bouncing along, happily watching meadows and wildflowers. ⚠️ For Huanglong Scenic Area’s Five Color Pool, go the day after rain for the brightest colors.
