Café Hisohiso is a hidden cafe located a 30-minute walk from Kintetsu Miminari Station. There is an old gate with a rabbit sign. Just past the gate is the cafe. As the name suggests, this cafe is hidden away in nature and serves cute baked goods and desserts. The interior of the cafe is decorated with dried flowers, creating a stylish space. This is a large shrine located in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture. In fact, its history of construction is relatively recent, dating back to the Meiji Period. However, its origins date back to the distant past, to Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan. A petition from private citizens was filed on the site where Emperor Jimmu's palace is said to have stood, and Emperor Meiji, inspired by this petition, founded the shrine. I visited the Fujiwara Palace Site, where the contrast between the cherry blossoms and canola flowers is simply breathtaking! The Fujiwara Palace Site (Fujiwara-kyuseki) is a historical landmark located in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture, that served as the center of Japan's first full-scale capital, "Fujiwara-kyo." Today, it is a vast open plain with only the earthen base of the Daigokuden (Great Audience Hall) remaining, but it is beloved as a scenic spot showcasing spectacular seasonal flower blooms. Right now (early April), roughly 1.4 million canola flowers are in full bloom. The surrounding cherry blossoms also typically peak around this time of year, allowing you to enjoy a vibrant contrast of yellow and pink. Available from late March 2026, a CG restoration app allows visitors to use their smartphones and other devices to recreate the magnificent palace of the past. #hellonewyear Imaicho is the kind of place you visit on purpose, but without making a big plan out of it. I stopped here on the way back from Yoshino, and it fit perfectly into the day without any stress. The area is small, calm, and easy to walk — one to two hours is more than enough to explore the streets. You can wander, take photos, and still have time to sit down for a coffee without rushing. There aren’t dozens of attractions, but that’s exactly the point: preserved merchant houses, quiet lanes, and a relaxed pace. It works well as a stop between trains, when you have a gap and don’t want to just wait on a platform. Amidst the Takaichi Sanae fever, Amenotakechi Shrine, whose name includes "Takaichi," is also gaining attention as a "Takaichi" spot in Nara, the Prime Minister's hometown. 👀 Amenotakechi Shrine is associated with "Amenotakechi," a place that appears in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki mythology. In 859, it was awarded the rank of Jugoi (Junior High Rank) and is a prestigious shrine listed as a Shikinai Taisha (Great Shrine) in the Engishiki. ⛩ Amenotakechi is a place where the eight million gods gather, and according to the Nihon Shoki, it is a sacred place where the gods consulted with Amaterasu Omikami, who had hidden herself in the Ama-no-Iwato cave, to help her return to her former occupation. 🪨 In addition, Kotoshironushi no Mikoto (the enshrined deity) and Omononushi no Mikoto, following the transfer of the Izumo domain, moved to Amenotakechi. Kashihara Shrine is located in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture, Japan. You can reach it by taking the Kintetsu train to Kashihara-jingū-mae Station and walking about 10 minutes from there. The shrine features a grand torii gate standing 10 meters tall, a solemn main hall, and is surrounded by lush greenery, expansive forests, and serene ponds. It offers a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for visitors who prefer a leisurely stroll and sightseeing over a hectic travel schedule.

In the Nara countryside, at "Omochakan 🧸🤖" "A private museum in the village. When I arrived, the elderly curator was still weeding in the fields. I only found out it's open when people come." Ofusa Kannon Temple in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture, is currently hosting its "Lantern Festival" and "Autumn Rose Festival"! The temple grounds are adorned with over 2,000 colorful lanterns and approximately 4,000 roses of 3,800 varieties. 🌹 Ofusa Kannon Temple was founded in the Edo period. The temple grounds are surrounded by a pond called "Koigafuchi," where a Kannon statue riding a white turtle appeared. A small chapel was built in the pond and a Kannon shrine was built to honor the deity. 🐢 The person who encountered the Kannon statue at this time was none other than Ofusa. It's amazing that she, a local girl, is remembered in both the temple's name and the place's name! (Although the place name has been corrupted to "Ousa").) This year's autumn roses are reportedly delayed in blooming due to the extreme heat, but as of October 27th, they are beginning to bloom in small numbers. Be sure to check the official account for the latest updates! ☝️ Lanterns are also lit up several times a month. This month's event has already ended, but next month's schedule should be announced soon, so keep an eye out for official information! 😌 Limited-edition goshuin stamps are also available during the event. I received a rose goshuin stamp and a double-page lantern goshuin stamp. I love the stamps and the character designs, too! 🥰 Admission to the main hall costs 500 yen, but this year, the temple treasure, the "Three Thousand Buddhas Maitreya Bodhisattva Hanging Scroll," is on display for the first time in 20 years! Even if you usually only stroll around the temple grounds, this is a great opportunity to visit the hall. Also, the roads around the temple are very narrow, so if you're driving, it's safest to search for "Ofusa Kannon No. 2 Parking Lot" on your navigation system and head there. I sometimes see cars stuck there...😇 If the parking lot is full, ask the temple for nearby parking, or park in the paid parking lots near Unebi Station or Yamato-Yagi Station. Please refrain from waiting or parking on the side of the road, as it will cause inconvenience to the temple.☺️ Even though they've increased the number of days they're open to reduce crowds, it seems like a fair number of people still come on illumination days, so be careful if you're visiting by car.⚠️ It's not too far to walk from the nearest station, and the townscape along the highway is quite beautiful, so it's also nice to come by train and stroll around! It connects the Kashihara Line, Minami-Osaka Line, and Yoshino Line, making it a popular spot for railway enthusiasts due to its mix of standard and narrow gauge tracks. The station's unique concourse structure stems from its origins as separate stations for the Osaka Electric Railway (Kashihara Line), Osaka Railway (Minami-Osaka Line), and Yoshino Railway (Yoshino Line). The symbolic central station building, welcoming many visitors to Kashihara Shrine, was completed in 1940 to commemorate the 2600th year of the Japanese imperial era. It was designed by Togo Murano (1891-1984), a prominent architect of the Showa era known for works like the Nissei Theatre in Tokyo (1963). Murano also designed other Kintetsu-related buildings, including department stores and stations, as well as notable structures in Nara Prefecture such as the Saeki Residence (Shouhaku Art Museum), Shigisan Jofukuin Temple, and Sakurai Temple. The station building features a Yamato-style roof with copper, slate, and tiles, exuding a strong and linear neoclassical aesthetic reminiscent of Nazi Germany's architectural style. If you're planning a trip to Nara in Kansai and are looking for an affordable hotel with comprehensive amenities and convenient transportation, this hotel located right next to Kashihara Station is definitely worth considering. 1️⃣ Excellent Value Weekday night stays start at around HK$300, and if you're an Accor member, booking during the "Red Hot House" promotion can get you rates as low as HK$250 per night. This price is truly exceptional value in the Kansai region of Japan. 2️⃣ Excellent Location The hotel is just 100 meters from the exit of Kashihara Station, less than a minute's walk away. From here, it's about half an hour to downtown Nara and about an hour to Namba and Shinsaibashi in Osaka, making it convenient for both sightseeing and transportation. 3️⃣ Facilities and Dining The hotel is not only affordable, but also offers excellent amenities. While the lounge is a bit basic, it does offer snacks and drinks, including alcohol and juice, so you can enjoy it after your evening onsen soak back at the hotel. The dinner buffet was over 9,000 yen per person, and I wouldn't recommend it without the 50% discount offered by the hotel membership. It's a bit pricey (even more than the room rate 😅), but the pictures show that the food was quite good, with Wagyu beef shabu-shabu and Asuka hot pot made with local Nara ingredients. The free breakfast was quite good. For a hotel in the early 200s, the buffet area was packed with options. The onsen isn't very large, consisting of an indoor pool about five or six meters long and wide and a sauna. However, there's a large onsen lounge outside with free cold water and plum juice. There's also free bicycle rental and self-service luggage lockers. Summary: For just a few hundred yen a night, this international chain hotel offers hot springs, a buffet breakfast, a drinks lounge, and convenient transportation.
