Kejajar travel guide and discussion

If you're looking for a fun, affordable, and unique short getaway, try a road trip to the Dieng Plateau. I just realized that Dieng isn't just about the land above the clouds or beautiful sunrises... It also has a "snow secret" that appears during the dry season. This phenomenon is commonly called Dieng frost. When temperatures drop sharply in the morning, grass and plants can be covered in a thin layer of frost, creating a foreign-like atmosphere. And yes, you can only see this during certain dry seasons. Day One The journey begins towards the Dieng area, enjoying the cold and misty mountain roads. The first spots are a must-visit: 1. Telaga Warna 2. Ratapan Angin Viewpoint 3. Sikidang Crater 4. Dieng Plateau Theater The afternoon is best spent sipping coffee while enjoying the distinctive cool Dieng air. Day Two Wake up at 3 a.m. for the sunrise at Sikunir Hill. Trust me... your sleepiness will disappear as soon as you see the morning sky starting to change color from the top of the hill. If you're lucky and visit during the dry season, you might even see frost appearing in several areas of Dieng. This is why many people call Dieng the Indonesian version of "snow." The tiring journey to Dieng always feels worth it because the natural atmosphere is truly serene. If I had to go back, I'd definitely repeat this itinerary without a second thought. I hosted a small girl gang adventure to Prau and Dieng — eight girls, some friends, some strangers, all ready for a quick escape from Jakarta. We traveled overnight to Wonosobo and started our morning in Dieng with a warm bowl of ongklok noodles before visiting Telaga Warna and Batu Pandang Ratapan Angin, two of the most scenic spots in the highlands. After checking into our hotel and preparing for the next day’s hike, we ended the night with an easy girls’ night in. The highlight of the trip came the next morning: a 2:30 AM hike to Mount Prau, where we caught one of the most beautiful sunrises in Java — golden light, rolling clouds, and a perfect view of the surrounding peaks. It was a simple but meaningful trip. Good energy, beautiful scenery, and a sunrise that made everything worth it. Perfect for anyone looking for a short adventure with friends.

Just look at where this is located! 😍 Mountains, clouds right outside the window, a cozy glass cabin, and the feeling that you’ve woken up somewhere in the Swiss Alps. But no—this is Indonesia 🇮🇩 The Dieng Plateau highlands, the cool air, incredible landscapes, and that perfect getaway where you just want to turn off your phone and enjoy the view 🤍 And the best part—you can stay in this unique glamping site and feel like the main character of a beautiful movie ✨ 📍Dieng, Indonesia 🏕️ Luxcamp Dieng by Horison Save this spot—it seems to be one of the most beautiful finds in Indonesia 😍

Mount Prau, rising to approximately 2,590 MDPL in Central Java, is a popular destination for hikers who want to experience a scenic mountain trek with beautiful landscapes along the route. The trail takes you through forested sections, open terrain, and grassy ridges, offering changing scenery throughout the journey. Although often considered suitable for beginners, the hike still requires stamina because some sections can be steep and challenging. For the trip, prepare proper hiking shoes, comfortable clothes, a jacket, rain protection, headlamp, sufficient water, snacks, and basic first-aid supplies. If camping, bring or rent a suitable tent and sleeping equipment. Keep your pace steady, take breaks when needed, follow the marked trail, and check the weather before starting. Respect other hikers and the environment by carrying your rubbish back down. Mount Prau is not just about reaching the summit—it is about enjoying the entire trekking experience and the changing character of the mountain along the way. #adventuretrips

#sunrisescenes Some travel moments are worth waking up before dawn for, and watching the sunrise from the summit of Mount Prau is one of them. After hiking through the darkness, the first light slowly appears on the horizon, revealing layers of mountains and a sea of clouds beneath the summit. The view makes every step of the climb feel completely worthwhile. As the sky transforms with the morning light, Mount Prau offers a peaceful atmosphere that feels almost unreal. Standing above the clouds while watching the sun rise over the surrounding landscape creates a moment that is difficult to forget. It is not just about reaching the summit, but about experiencing the beauty of nature at its quietest. For anyone who loves adventure, hiking, and unforgettable landscapes, sunrise at Mount Prau deserves a place on the bucket list. The challenging climb, cold morning air, and spectacular panoramic view come together to create an epic travel memory that stays with you long after the journey ends.

#easytravelpost Telaga Warna ("Color Lake") sits at 2,093 m in the Dieng caldera, Central Java — a 1.2 km boardwalk loop around a sulphur lake that flips teal-to-violet with the light. I took the executive night train Yogyakarta→Wonosobo (IDR 150,000, 6 hrs, booked at station cash), then an angkot up the plateau (IDR 25,000, cash only), arrived 06:45 as the mist was still on the rim. Entry IDR 25,000 + boardwalk IDR 10,000, both cash; the ginger-tea stall takes QRIS but the honour box for board repair is coins only. The moss isn't lake-edge soft stuff — it's Campylopus and Sphagnum 5 cm thick on the rim cliff where sulphur steam vents kiss the rock, silver till 8:30 then grey. The best 100 m is the west viewpoint bend where the lake goes impossible teal and a heron stalks the shallows. Mistake: I once came at 11 a.m. on a Sunday — school groups, drone buzz, wind stirred the sulphur, lake flat grey, moss dull. Go weekday before 08:00. Second mistake: flip-flops on the stone steps to Batu Pandang — dew-slick, slipped, 10 min wring. Third: I assumed the IDR 25k temple ticket covered the lake — it doesn't, carry IDR 50k small bills. Buy in Wonosobo: a IDR 15,000 tahu petis from the plateau stall, not the IDR 40,000 café. Gear: 2 L water, IDR 120k closed shoes, IDR 80k wind shell — 14°C at dawn, 2,000 m. Local rule: no stepping over the rim fence, crater floor is sacred (offerings float on the lake), no drone, stay on board, the moss is part of the offering not a footrest. Opinion: Dieng is the 2,000 m caldera with 8th-c Hindu temples older than Angkor and a sulphur-colored lake most Yogya tourists skip for Borobudur — and the mossy Campylopus rim at 07:30 is the 10-min half with zero temple crowd. Should the Dieng collective add a IDR 5k honour box at the boardwalk start for anti-slip boards, or keep the IDR 10k flat? I'd add it. Would you wake at 05:00 for an angkot up a Javan volcano to watch moss glow on a colour-shifting lake?

Get ready to live your best adventure life—this 10-day Central Java trip is an absolute bucket-list banger. From ancient vibes to epic mountain sunrises, you’ll fall *hard* for Jogja and Dieng. Here’s how to pack your days with jaw-dropping moments: Trip Highlights (save this list!): 🏛️ Prambanan Temple – Jl. Raya Solo - Yogyakarta No.16, Kranggan, Bokoharjo, Sleman Regency. Opening: 6:00–18:00 🏯 Borobudur Temple – Jl. Badrawati, Borobudur, Magelang Regency. Opening: 6:00–17:00 🌋 Mount Merapi Jeep Tour – Meet-up typically in Kaliurang: Tours run early morning or sunset (book via trip.com!) 🏡 Nepal Van Java – Dusun Butuh, Kaliangkrik, Magelang. One-of-a-kind mountain village with those iconic Insta-worthy houses! 🌄 Sikunir Sunrise – Sembungan Village, Kejajar, Wonosobo. Be there before 4:00am for THAT sunrise glow ✨ 💨 Sikidang Crater – Dieng Kulon, Banjarnegara. Opening: 7:00–16:00 🏞️ Telaga Warna – Dieng, Wonosobo. Opening: 7:00–17:00, photogenic AF lakeside views 🌲 Mangunan & Pinus Pengger – South of Jogja, Dlingo. Opens early morning to late evening; treehouse vibes and panoramic hills 🌊 Parangtritis Beach & Gumuk Pasir – Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. Open all hours, but sunsets are pure magic 🍜 Binge on Bakmi Jawa and Mie Ongklok noodles, local comfort food that *slaps*—especially after hiking! 💡 Travel Tips: · Private driver = ESSENTIAL for Merapi, Nepal Van Java, and Dieng. The roads are wild (in a good way) but super steep! · Dieng mornings are literally freezing—think 7°C (brrr!), so pack thermal layers, a warm jacket, gloves and that cute beanie you never wear at home. With 10 days and 9 nights to explore, you’ll go from sacred temples to volcanic thrills, highland villages, legendary sunrises, lush forests, epic beaches, and noodle bowls that hit different. It’s basically a highlight reel of Central Java’s greatest hits! 🚗🌋🌄 Ready for the adventure of a lifetime? All you need is comfy shoes, your best camera, and major main character energy. #easytravelpost Sikunir Hill (≈2,300 m) in Dieng, Central Java, is famous for the "golden sunrise," but the mossy forest is the 20-min stair climb from the Sikunir parking lot to the viewpoint—not the summit photo. I took a Yogyakarta–Wonosobo bus (30k IDR) + Wonosobo–Dieng minibus (20k IDR), slept in Dieng town (150k IDR homestay, cash), woke 4 a.m., ojek to Sikunir trailhead (20k IDR). Entry 15,000 IDR, cash at the gate, headlamp essential. The moss: cloud forest on the stair sides—oak, myrtle, sphagnum on the stone steps, fern dripping at 5 a.m., temperature 8°C, fog below the railing a "sea of clouds" by 5:30. I wore trail-runners, stairs are paved—easy—but the side trail to the lower Sikunir spur (where locals watch sunrise with no crowd) is moss-on-clay, slip city. Microspikes absurd, just slow down. Mistake: I did it as a Yogya day tour—2 a.m. depart, 13 hr day, exhausted, missed Telaga Warna. Sleep in Dieng. Second mistake: I carried 1 L water; Dieng altitude dehydrates, carry 1.5 L. Third: I paid 50k IDR for a "VIP sunrise spot" rope—pointless, the public rail is fine. Buy in Dieng town: a 15k IDR bowl of mie ongklok, not the 60k IDR "sunrise breakfast box." Gear: a 40k IDR wool beanie from the Wonosobo market—Sikunir pre-dawn is 7°C with wind. Local rule: no drone before 6 a.m. (permit needed anyway, 2m IDR), no stepping on the moss verge off the stairs (the lower spur is eroding), temple complexes (Arjuna) separate 50k IDR ticket if you add it. The moss forest is free with the 15k entry. Opinion: Dieng sells the golden light, the moss stairs are the quiet pre-show. Should they light the stair moss with low lamps for safety and charge 25k, or keep it headlamp-dark? Keep dark, raise to 20k. Would you wake at 4 a.m. for wet moss stairs in 7°C to earn a sunrise?

#easytravelpost Dieng is 2,000 m above Wonosobo, 1 hr drive from the town (angkot 20k IDR, chartered car 250k IDR). The Candi Arjuna complex (8th-c. Hindu, 7 temples) entry 25,000 IDR foreigner, open 07:00–17:00, cash only. I slept in Wonosobo (200k IDR room), took the 06:30 angkot, entered Arjuna at 07:40. The moss lives on the temple basalt and the rim of the Telaga Warna crater lake 400 m north: Casuarina and alpine grass with moss on the shrine plinths 1 cm thick, 10°C in July, a Javan gibbon calling across the sulphur haze. The crater itself steams — the moss on the lakeside rocks goes yellow-green from the H₂S. I walked the 1 km crater rim loop, then back to the Arjuna parking row where a line of warungs do 30k IDR kopi dieng (local robusta, smoked) and 25k IDR pisang goreng; I sat at one with the moss on the warung's plank wall wet, the Arjuna spires behind the cabbage fields. Mistake: I came at 11:00 once — the cloud burned off, the moss dull, the temple crowded with school groups; 07:30–09:00 for the moss-light and fog. Another: the 25k IDR ticket is temples-only; Telaga Warna sometimes charges a separate 15k IDR — carry 50k IDR small bills. Would you angkot 20k IDR from Wonosobo for the 07:40 Arjuna mossy temple + Telaga Warna crater rim + 30k IDR dieng coffee, or skip Dieng and do the closer Borobudur sunrise instead?

#easytravelpost The Dieng Plateau in Central Java sits at 2,000 m above sea level and is a caldera complex of volcanic lakes, sulphur vents, and 8th-century Hindu temples older than Angkor Wat. Telaga Warna ("Colour Lake") is the centrepiece — a crater lake whose water shifts from turquoise to deep green to milky white depending on the sulphur concentration and the angle of the sun. I took an overnight train from Yogyakarta to Wonosobo (150,000 IDR, executive class, 6 hrs, booked at the station with cash), then a shared angkot (minivan, 25,000 IDR) up the plateau, arriving at 06:45 as the mist was lifting. I walked the crater rim trail at 07:00 — a 3 km loop around Telaga Warna that passes through a forest of stunted albizia trees draped in grey-green lichen, with the lake visible through gaps in the canopy. At 07:30 I reached the western viewpoint: the lake was a impossible shade of teal, steam rising from a sulphur vent on the far shore, and the air smelled faintly of rotten eggs (the "Dieng perfume," locals call it). I sat on a wooden platform at 07:45, ate a 15,000 IDR tahu petis (fried tofu with shrimp paste) from a vendor, and watched a group of Indonesian students take selfies while a heron stalked the shallows. The trail then climbs to the Batu Pandang viewpoint (2,150 m) — 20 minutes up stone steps. From there you see the entire caldera: Telaga Warna below, Telaga Pengilon (the "Clear Lake") beside it, and the volcanic cones of Prau and Sikunir on the horizon. I reached the top at 08:30, the temperature 14°C, a thin layer of frost still on the grass from the night before — something you never expect in equatorial Indonesia. Mistake: I wore flip-flops for the rim walk and the stone steps were slippery with morning dew; rent proper shoes in Wonosobo or bring closed-toe from Yogyakarta. Another: the lake's colour is best between 07:00 and 09:00 before the wind stirs the sulphur — arrive early or you'll see flat grey water. Would you wake at 05:00 for the angkot up to Dieng and the 07:30 teal-lake view at 2,000 m, or sleep in and miss the caldera's best hour?

#easytravelpost Dieng is a plateau that breathes sulphur—2,093 m, mist at 7 am, and a lake that changes color because of the moss. Telaga Warna (“Color Lake”) sits in a former crater, the water shifts teal-to-violet depending on the light, and the rim is a 1.2 km boardwalk loop where the cliff edge wears a moss coat 5 cm thick. I came from Wonosobo (damri bus 25,000 IDR, card not taken, cash), rode an ojek to the plateau (40,000 IDR), paid 25,000 IDR entry, 10,000 IDR for the boardwalk. The moss on the rim is a mix of Sphagnum and a tiny Java endemic, Campylopus—it grows where the sulphur steam vents kiss the rock. I wore flip-flops in the parking lot, then trail shoes on the boardwalk; the wood was dry but the rim rock outside the rail was slick. Local rule: no stepping over the fence, the crater floor is sacred and the moss is part of the offering. A vendor sold wedang jahe (15,000 IDR, card via QRIS), I warmed up watching the lake flip color at 8:10. Mistake: I arrived at 11 am on a Sunday—school groups, drone noise, the mist gone. Go weekday before 8. The nearby Sikidang crater has the same moss but no boardwalk; wear closed shoes. If a lake is colored by moss and minerals, who owns the color—the mountain or the photo?

#easytravelpost Dieng Plateau sits 25 km north of Wonosobo (2,093 m average). I took a Yogyakarta→Wonosobo bus (60,000 IDR, 3 hrs), then a shared jeep to Dieng (50,000 IDR). Telaga Warna entry is 15,000–25,000 IDR foreigner (price creeps yearly—carry cash, cards flaky at the gate), plus 5,000 IDR for the color lake viewpoint. The lake is a sulfur tarn that shifts turquoise-to-coffee by sun angle; a 1 km boardwalk runs the shore, then a pine-cliff lane climbs to the Sikidang crater (sulfur vents, 100,000 IDR combo ticket if bundled). The pine walk is the quiet bit—old Pinus merkusii leaning over the drop, potato fields below, Arjuna temple (8th c.) silhouetted at 07:00 before the tour buses. I did Telaga Warna at 06:30, Sikidang at 08:00, and the pine lane back down alone at 09:30. Night temps hit 0°C Jun–Jul; I wore a puffy in August dawn and still shivered. Mistake: I trusted the "Dieng bus from Jogja direct" and changed twice—go to Wonosobo first, always. Another: I wore trail runners on the sulfur crust at Sikidang and the sole softened; closed shoes. Would you do Dieng as a Wonosobo sunrise day-trip (Telaga Warna + Sikidang + temples), or sleep at a Dieng homestay for the 05:00 mist over the pine cliff?

This is Dieng. If you go in December like I did, it's not too cold. If you want to experience freezing temperatures down to below zero degrees, go in June or July. There are quite a lot of tourist attractions and they're beautiful. Every place charges an entrance fee, but it's not too expensive. Worth it to visit. The only downside is that the location is very far and the roads leading to Dieng are quite steep. #dieng

Let’s get real: this trip took me from historic Edinburgh to Bali’s secret shores, a slice of Spanish coast, and epic volcanic sunrise views in Java! 🌍 The sun was out, the vibes were chill, and every spot delivered something unforgettable—especially if you’re into killer views and cool beach clubs. Top Spots to Visit Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh: Dive into planet Earth’s history at this super interactive museum (Holyrood Rd, EH8 8AS, 10am–6pm Mon-Tue/Sat-Sun, 10am–4pm Wed-Fri). Genius if you love science or need a rainy day activity. Pantai Melasti Amed, Bali: This is a total paradise (MJ9Q+HJM, Jl. Melasti, Karangasem, 6am–6pm). Local tip—come early to beat the crowds and catch the sunrise. Don’t miss chilling on the sand under the coconut palms! La Brisa Beach Club, El Vendrell: Coastal cool with a Mediterranean twist (Passeig Marítim, Coma-ruga, 11am–1:30am Fri-Sun, 11am–1am Mon-Thur). Grab a sofa on the terrace—perfect for sunsets and people-watching, and the cocktails hit just right (trust me, sunglasses and all). Sikunir Hill Dieng, Kejajar: Up for a sunrise trek? Go pre-dawn for jaw-dropping views over the Dieng plateau (Sawah & Hutan, Dieng, open 24h). Bring layers; it gets chilly, but absolutely worth it for those volcanic vistas! Practical Tips & Getting Around White rock club vibes are always worth seeking—think open-air lounges and tropical plants for the best photos. Airport hacks: Benda’s Soekarno–Hatta is your jump-off for Asia—get a SIM card in arrivals and try airport cafés while you wait. For food, try local warungs near Amed or classic tapas at El Vendrell’s coast. Travel light & grab taxis or rideshares for flexibility; public transport works best in big cities. Weather varies so pack for both sun and a little rain. #TravelGoals #BeachClubLife #EdinburghAdventures #BaliVibes #SunriseChaser

Looking for a short hiking trail with stunning views? The Patak Banteng Trail is the answer! This trail is a favorite for both beginners and experienced climbers because it takes only about 2-3 hours to reach the summit. Basecamp - Post 1: Still just cement stairs and an asphalt road. You can use a motorcycle taxi if you want to save energy until you reach the asphalt road. Now, there are motorcycle taxis available even up to Post 2. Post 1 - Post 2: Starts on a dirt and root path. The climb can be quite breathless, but it's still safe! Post 2 - Post 3: The most challenging trail, but don't worry, there are plenty of dirt steps to help you along the way. Post 3 - Summit: The area begins to slope down and you'll be greeted by a carpet of daisies during peak season. Practical Info: 💰 Simaksi: Rp. 40,000/person. 🛵 Motorcycle Taxi: Rp. 15,000/person 📍 Location: Patak Banteng Basecamp, Dieng. ⚠️ Tip: This trail can be very slippery after rain, so make sure to wear hiking shoes with good grip! #MountPrau #Hiking #Dieng #PatakBanteng #IndonesiaTravel #ClimbingGuide

The air is cold, so a jacket is a must. Because of the high altitude, it's also a good idea to pack an umbrella. #Dieng #wonosobo #centraljawa

Exploring Kejajar’s Misty Magic: Dieng Plateau Villas & Pintu Langit 🌧️ If you love a moody vibe and mountain scenery, Kejajar is a hidden gem! We spent our rainy-day adventure at Dieng Plateau Villas (RT 4 RW 1, Kejajar, Arutala Villa by Alamdewa) and the dreamy Pintu Langit viewing platform, where clouds gave the city landscape a mysterious backdrop. Must-See Place: Pintu Langit: Even with cloudy skies and drizzle, the platform marked “TU LAN” delivers cinematic views—perfect for couples or solo travelers hunting for a unique photo shoot. Pro tip: Wear bright colors for your pics; the gray skies make them pop! Travel Insights: Don’t let the rain stop you! Cloudy weather means fewer crowds and softer lighting for photography. Bring a light rain jacket and waterproof shoes. If the itinerary got cut short like ours, soak in the villa’s cozy mountain vibes and just enjoy the cool, fresh air. Getting Around: Grab a local taxi or ojek (motorbike taxis) for short hops between spots. The neighborhood’s hilly, so walking can be tough in wet weather. Food & Stay: The Dieng Plateau Villas are clean, friendly, and surrounded by awesome local warungs (small eateries). Don’t miss out on trying warm mie rebus (noodle soup) nearby—perfect on a rainy day! Tips: Carry cash; ATMs can be scarce. Weather changes fast, so pack layers. If rain is in the forecast, check with local staff about road safety and alternative indoor activities. #DiengMagic #CloudyViews #CoupleTravel #VillaLife #RainyAdventure
