Wisboomgemaal, Wisboom Pumping Station

#newyearadventure When we visit to Kinderdijk Netherlands, the ticket is included the entrance to this Pumping Station. Dating back to 1868, the Wisboom pumping station was originally operated with a steam engine until it was converted to electric power in 1924. In this station, firstly we are able to play a “game” by controlling the windmill to get more wind to generate into power for the water management system. Next we can see the engine room, where the guide will explain to us on how’s the engine work. It’s a nice and fun trip!

Kinderdijk Delights

30 mins away from Rotterdam is a small village called Kinderdijk. It is a UNESCO heritage. It is famous for its 18th century windmills. And to believe that people actually lived in Windmills back then, some of them still do. I left a piece of my heart there. It’s a beautiful village with wonderful people. Blokweer Museum Mill

#2023travelwish The second museum mill we visited is Blokweer Museum Mill which in Dutch is Museummolen Blokweer. This mill is the oldest among the windmill in Kinderdijk. Built in 1630, it is well maintained by the mill caretakers. When you visit this mill, you can experience how a miller family lived about seventy years ago. You’ll not only see what it looked like inside the mill at that time, but you’ll also see the garden and the animals of the miller’s family. Nederwaard Museum Mill

#2023travelwish The first windmill we visited is Nederwaard Museum Mill. It is one of the three museum that can be visited. For decades now, this mill has been welcoming visitors from around the world. Built in 1738, the old engine is still in prime shape. We can see how the Dutch lived in the windmill in old days. This mill used to house 13 members in the family. When we stepped in, we are able to see the room, the living space, play ground inside the windmill and of course the mechanism of the mill. Windmills at Kinderdijk

#2023travelwish First stop of Netherland, we went to visit windmill at Kinderdijk. It took us about 30 mins drive from Rotterdam, the hotel we stayed. We reach there around 9.30 in the morning. We are fortunate to see the sunrise at Kinderdijk. Such a beautiful view 😍. The windmills at Kinderdijk are a group of 19 monumental windmills in the Alblasserwaard polder, in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. Most of the mills are part of the village of Kinderdijk in the municipality of Molenlanden, and one mill, De Blokker, is part of the municipality of Alblasserdam. Kinderdijk is a village in the Netherlands known for its iconic 18th century windmills. I reach there by waterbus from Rotterdam, the boat trip gives you a nice impression of the area and you can take your bike on board for free, you will reach there around half hour. Originally there were 20 windmills at Kinderdijk but now 19 of them remain. You can only visit two of them inside, they were built as part of a drainage system in order to drain the excess water from the area into the river.

The beautiful windmills of Kinderdijk, Hollan

the most amazing experience to either walk amongst or take a cruise down the canal to take in the beauty of the historical functioning windmills of Kinderdijk, Holland. Breathtakingly stunning to witness upclose the fascinating working buildings. Built in the 1700s they are beautiful to look at! The best part is that you can go inside two of them which is a nice treat!! The scenery around is stunning and it has a giftshop that has lots of lovely souvenirs to buy. Highly recommend visiting this place!! You learn all about the history of the windmills amd the miller families that lived there!! It is a huge part of the history of Holland and should not be missed!!

Don't leave Holland without seeing windmills

Though you can see windmills dotted throughout the country, the absolute best place to see them is at Kinderdijk. Kinderdijk is a unesco world heritage sight near Rotterdam where you can see a group of 18 different windmills along the banks of the canals. Most of them are actually still inhabited by locals, but two of them can be viewed from the inside. To walk or cycle around Kinderdijk is free of charge, but you will need to pay a ticket to use the boat and to view the windmills from inside. The easiest way to get to Kinderdijk is by water taxi from Rotterdam. #eurotrip
