You can eat very high-quality livestock meat. For the appetizer, I chose salt-braised offal. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was elegant, and I felt the performance was good. Kitami is a yakiniku town, and there are yakiniku restaurants everywhere. There are some delicious restaurants, but some aren't suitable for dates, but I think this place would be great for a date. In winter, their fur becomes even fluffier and whiter, resembling breathable cotton balls. Besides viewing, the park also arranges close interactions to experience the foxes' agility and warmth. The hotel is about a 6-minute walk from Kitami Station. After finishing the day's schedule, I check in around 9 PM. I am assigned the first corner room on the 10th floor. The room features long windows, offering a view of the railway below and a wide panorama of Kitami city on both sides. The hotel has a large public bath with hot springs, where I relax for 5 minutes at night and another 5 minutes in the morning. On this day, the temperature dropped sharply to 1°C, but after running the heater for about 3–4 hours, the indoor temperature rose to 25°C. The next day, I need to catch the Limited Express Okhotsk at 6:48 AM. Since breakfast starts at 6:30 AM, I make sure to enjoy a morning soak in the hot springs, pack my belongings, and check out around 6:10 AM. I then wait at the breakfast area. There is one gentleman already in line ahead of me, so I join the queue behind him. The staff kindly opens the breakfast area about 5 minutes early (around 6:25 AM), giving us a bit more time to enjoy breakfast. Thank you for the thoughtful service.

Mint Distillery, next to the Kitami Mint Memorial Museum When you open the door, your heart will beat faster as you smell the wafting aroma of mint. You can see the process by which mint farmers extract the oil, and historical distillation equipment and tools are on display. The process of making mint also has a long history, and I learned for the first time that there are Japanese and Western mints. There are demonstrations every day here (from 10am to 3pm), so you're always surrounded by the aroma of mint...! Inside, there are a variety of souvenirs made with mint that are only available in Kitami. You can buy mint oil, which can be used as an insect repellent or aroma, sweets combined with chocolate, and candies made with oil made at this distillery. Calling all mint lovers! Visit the Kitami Mint Memorial Museum in Kitami, the world's leading mint city. This charming museum, marked by its adorable pastel-colored building, is a must-see. Once upon a time, Kitami accounted for 70% of the global mint market. The two-story museum welcomes visitors by having them fill out an entry card (indicating where they’re from) at the entrance. Inside, you’ll find exhibits explaining how mint is produced, showcasing different types of mint, and displaying items that use mint. It’s fascinating to learn that mint, commonly known as xylitol, is used in everyday products like toothpaste and pain relief patches. On the second floor, there’s a unique corner where you can compare the scents of various herbs. Open the cases to experience the aromas of lemongrass, rosemary, and more. This sensory experience is something you can’t replicate at home, making it truly refreshing. Outside the building, there’s a herb garden that flourishes in the summer. Located about a 10-minute walk uphill from Kitami Station, this Western-style building was once the residence of American missionaries, the Pearson couple, during the Taisho era. The house has been converted into a museum and is open to the public. The couple traveled across Hokkaido spreading their faith and were instrumental in preventing the establishment of a red-light district in Kitami, thereby saving many women. The residence is also the northernmost architectural work in Japan by William Merrell Vories, a renowned architect known for his Western-style designs. On the first floor, you can find exhibits such as a reed organ from 1878 and other relics like Bibles. As you walk up to the second floor, you’ll hear the creaking sounds typical of wooden structures. The former reception room now displays materials from Kitami’s sister city, Elizabeth City, along with photographs of people who were part of the cultural exchange. Although I am neither a Christian nor an architecture enthusiast, I found this place to be a wonderful spot to experience the atmosphere and history of the era. Admission is free, and visitors are required to fill out a simple registration form (indicating whether you’re from within or outside Hokkaido) before changing into slippers to explore the museum. Behind the building, there’s Pearson Park, a spacious area that’s perfect for families with children to enjoy. During this trip to Hokkaido, we chose to enjoy the Onneyu Onsen in Kitami City and stayed at the renowned Oe Honke, known for its "beauty skin" hot springs. Established in 1899, this inn boasts over 100 years of history while maintaining high-quality services and facilities. In 2012, it received the Michelin "Comfort" rating for inns. Outside the hotel, a winding river flows, its surface covered in ice and snow during winter. The trees along the riverbank are adorned with a silver-white coat, creating a serene and picturesque winter scene. This view not only highlights the chill of the season but also adds a touch of tranquility and poetic charm. The rooms at the inn feature traditional Japanese-style designs, offering elegance and warmth. The staff thoughtfully prepare tatami mats, and the spacious living area is perfect for relaxing with ice cream or a cold drink after enjoying the hot springs. The bathroom in the room is Western-style and relatively compact, but this does not detract from the overall comfort. Most guests opt to visit the large communal bath to enjoy the hot springs, where the facilities are more than adequate to meet basic needs. Onneyu Onsen is famous for its skin-beautifying effects.
