This is Japan!? A spectacular view from an altitude of 2,956m!
📍Location
- Located in the Central Alps of Nagano Prefecture, Mount Kiso-Koma is the highest peak in the Kiso Mountains!
🚗Access
There's a parking lot at the base of the mountain, and the typical route is to take a bus from there, then board the ropeway and begin your climb.
Ropeway reservations are required, and reservations are now available online.
- At first glance, the views were so breathtaking you'd doubt you were in Japan! The ropeway takes you up to an altitude of 2,600m, and even those without mountaineering gear can access it in casual clothing. The fourth photo is located right after you get off the ropeway!
It's a wonderful place that anyone can visit!!

Komagatake [Senjojiki Cirque] Weekend mountain walk
Senjojiki Cirque is located at an altitude of 2,912 meters, directly below Mount Hoken in the Central Alps. From Shirabidaira at the base of the mountain, you can take a ropeway to the Yaguchi 900 meters in just 450 seconds. Inside the cirque, there is a walking trail just before the hiking trails to Mount Hoken and Mount Kisokoma, so you can enjoy the various seasonal scenery even in light clothing. In summer, the area is filled with blooming alpine plants, which are said to be a treasure trove, and you can take as many beautiful photos as you like.

Senjojiki Cirque, Central Alps
Senjojiki Cirque spreads out beneath the rock face of the alpine zone at an altitude of over 2,500m. A cirque is a bowl-shaped formation carved out by ice during the glacial period.
I visited in late July. It was cloudy when I got on the ropeway, and I was prepared to not be able to see anything, but when I arrived at the top the fog cleared and I was able to enjoy the dynamic scenery✨
The hike, which takes you through the alpine plants, takes about 40 to 50 minutes.

Komagatake Service Area
I stopped by Komagatake Service Area on my way to Yamanashi Prefecture.
It was my first time there, and it didn't seem very large.
Still, there was a dog run, and it was fun to look for souvenirs, such as fresh vegetables from the area and walnut soba.
There were many rare items that you won't find at other SAs.
They've made efforts to let you see the faces of the producers, and I'd like to visit again.

[Nagano, Komagane] The snowy scenery of Kozenji Temple was just fantastic...☃️❄*°
A must-see for lovers of historic temples and moss-covered stone walls,
I went to the tranquil and calming Kozenji Temple for my first visit of the year! ✨
Walking along the cedar-lined streets, admiring the carpet of moss, and feeling the crisp air...
It was a place that left me feeling incredibly calm and like a spiritual detox. 👼
It was snowing that day, and I was enchanted by the temple's unique scenery at this time of year!
The famous garden was covered in a blanket of snow and ice,
so much so that I thought, "I definitely want to come back and see it in another season!"
(Apparently, you can enjoy the cherry blossoms in spring and the autumn leaves in fall, creating a completely different atmosphere. 🍁)
This place is also a sacred place for the popular anime series Laid-Back Camp!
Be sure to check out the shrine where the spirit dog Hayataro is enshrined, and the fortune-telling slips.
I made eye contact with all of them, but I decided on this one 🐕 I got a medium luck ◎

Komagane 🐕 Meet the Spirit Dog Hayataro 🇯🇵
This was a place I definitely wanted to visit when I came to Komagane.
Mount Hoshosan Kozenji Temple emerges deep in the cedar grove. The air was so quiet, even a deep breath seemed to calm my mind.
This temple is famous for the legend of the "Spirit Dog Hayataro" that is passed down within its grounds. The story goes that about 700 years ago, Hayataro, a strong mountain dog kept at Kozenji Temple, rescued a human sacrifice at Mitsuke Tenjin Shrine in Enshu (present-day Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture).
The grounds are filled with information boards and statues related to Hayataro, and it was wonderful to walk through the "scene of the story" while taking photos.
⸻
Highlights (including photo spots!)
• Approach to the main hall: Straight stone pavement and the impressive, tall cedar trees. It's lovely to hear the only sound you can hear: birdsong.
• Sanmon Gate (Niomon Gate): Passing through the gate immediately gives you a sense of "confines." It's the perfect place to kick off your journey.
• Three-story Pagoda and Pond: The reflection of the pagoda on the water's surface is picturesque! The moist moss and small stream make you want to gaze at it forever.
• Sacred Dog Hayataro: The wooden carved Hayataro statue and information board suddenly make the legend seem more real.
⸻
Seasonal Enjoyments
• The temple is also famous for its weeping cherry blossoms and luminous moss. The luminous moss can only be seen during a limited period, from mid-April to late October (it cannot be seen outside of these periods).
It's rare to find a place where the splendor of spring and the depths of the forest can be seen at the same time.
⸻
Travel Tips (Admission & Fees)
• Admission to the temple grounds from the Niomon Gate to the main hall is free.
• 500 yen to visit the garden (only for those who wish to visit the garden).
• A tour of the temple grounds takes approximately 40 minutes.
• Some information suggests that worship hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with the gift shop and other areas open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM).
⸻
Mini Model Itinerary (2-3 hours)
1. Temple Gate → Walk leisurely along the stone-paved approach
2. Visit the main hall → Visit the Hayataro signboard and statue
3. Photo time at the three-story pagoda and pond → Head to the garden (if you're visiting)
4. On the way back, enjoy the atmosphere of the approach one more time and finish.

Kiso-Komagatake is the highest peak in the Central Alps (Kiso Mountains) that stretch across southern Nagano Prefecture.
Although it is a high peak with an altitude of 2,956m, even beginners can easily reach the summit by using the bus and ropeway, and even those who do not climb mountains can enjoy the Japanese Alps with ease, such as seeing the spectacular view of Senjojiki Cirque and strolling through the beautiful flower fields.

We will introduce Mt. Utsugi, the second highest mountain in the Central Alps and the only one in the 100 famous mountains of Japan, also known as the Queen of the Central Alps!
The starting point is Komagatake Land, which is close to the starting point. Since it is not a tourist spot, proper equipment is required.
We started from the free parking lot at the ski resort and walked through the forest for a while.
There are several forks along the way, but we recommend climbing Ikeyama and enjoying the view of Komagatake's Senjojiki Cirque.
There is a water source nearby, so replenish your water if necessary.
After passing Masenagi at the halfway point and going through the difficult areas called Ojigoku and Kojigoku, the vegetation gradually changes.
You should definitely try climbing the huge Komishi. From here, the views of the Tenryu River below, Mt. Komagatake, and the summit are spectacular.
After passing Komamine Hutte just below the summit, you will soon reach the summit.
You will feel energized to overcome the fatigue you have been feeling so far!
The summit is a ridge traverse route that continues north towards Mt. Komagatake and south towards Mt. Koshimoyama.
If the weather is good, you can see the Kiso mountains, including Mt. Ontake, to the west.
It's a little sad to leave, but the descent is long so we can't stay there forever.😢
On the way back, it's nice to pass by the shelter and admire the flowers along the stream!
After descending the mountain, I'm wondering whether to finish off the day with Hayataro Onsen Town and Meijitei's sauce katsudon. Or maybe Carrot's ramen.
Because it's a long way, many people start while it's still dark. You want to descend while it's still light!

Take the regular bus from Suganodai Bus Center to Shirabidaira Station
Take the Komagatake Ropeway from Shirabidaira Station to Senjojiki Station
It is a cirque formed during the glacial age about 20,000 years ago, and is called "Senjojiki Cirque" because it is as large as 1,000 tatami mats😊
The Central Alps, where Senjojiki Cirque is located, are designated as a quasi-national park, and you can enjoy rare natural environments such as one of the country's leading glacial terrains and alpine plants while strolling along a promenade that takes about 40 minutes to go around🥰
And even in midsummer, the temperature is around 15 degrees, so it's very cool✨✨
Above all, on sunny days, the view is so spectacular that you'll be speechless🙌
It gets very crowded on weekends, so it's recommended to visit on weekdays☺️

The beauty of Mt Kiso
Mt Kiso Komagatake is situated at Sensojiki Cirque and it’s a beginner hiking route in summer which requires about 4 hours hike (return) . It is a very popular hike in Summer as you get to see the neighbouring Japan alps clearly in the summit.
In winter, Mt Kiso turned into a slightly technical mountain to submit. Ice axe, and crampons are required. Good weather is definitely important. There is also chances of avalanche incident. Therefore it is important to check the weather forecast before attempting this mountain.

A Komagane sauce cutlet bowl restaurant that appeared briefly in "Laid-Back Camp" ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
It was very popular, and I waited about an hour (;-_-)
I ordered a #sauce cutlet bowl (o・ω-人)
I was surprised when the sauce cutlet bowl was brought to me Σ( °-° )Wow
The cabbage is on top of the rice, and four sauce cutlets stand tall on top of it ♡Kyaa (∀〃(〃∀)Kyaaa♡
The lid is already closed
Apparently there are two bowls of rice.
The large portion is four bowls, so I ordered the regular portion (;-_-)
The sauce has soaked in and the meat is tender ✿゚❀.(*´▽`*)❀.゚✿
Cabbage with extra sauce And I let the rice soak up the sauce thoroughly before eating ŧ‹”(๑'ڡ'๑)୨"ŧ‹
The pork cutlet here is made from fillet meat, not loin, so it's light and goes well with the sauce d(>∀<)b
Fillet meat is healthy, so it's totally fine to just eat that (★`>ω<)ノ (this is just my personal opinion lol)

Following in the footsteps of Rinjan, Kozenji Temple - Komagane, Nagano
I'm really into Yuru camp these days. Since I'm in Japan, I have to try going to the place in the anime!! I was actually going to Kamikochi, but the buses were full. I didn't want to risk my luck in the future, so I came to another place, the place where Rin stopped by. I went camping. I didn't think I'd get there!! There was a storm and it was raining. The journey was quite difficult because it was quite far from the city. I had to take a local bus - a bus - and walk to my destination. But it was fun and exciting. The nature around the temple is so beautiful. The day I went, it was raining, so there was a lot of fog on both sides of the road. But it was very cool. If you have a JR Pass, try stopping by. We took the bus from Shinjuku to Tatsuno, changed lines, and got off at Komagane, then took the bus. Follow the GPS and got off and walked for a while. Then we arrived. The air was so fresh!!! It was like taking a deep breath of ozone!!
Note: The bus runs on a schedule. Check before you go. Otherwise, there won't be any buses back. 🤣
