Some of the most popular places to visit include New Delhi and Agra, however places in Southern India like Kovalam are often overlooked. Kovalam is a beautiful seaside town located in Kerala. The area is famous for the backwaters and on my trip I decided to go on a boat ride! It was really beautiful seeing all of the nature and it was different to what I expected in India. I recently visited Kovalam, and it truly lives up to its reputation as one of India’s finest beach destinations. The scenic coastline, lively atmosphere, and warm hospitality make it a must-visit! Location & Accessibility: Kovalam is easily accessible from Trivandrum International Airport (10 km away). I took a prepaid taxi from the airport, and the drive was smooth, taking around 20-30 minutes. Tuk-tuks and rental scooters are also available for exploring the area. Beaches & Attractions: · Lighthouse Beach was my favorite – soft golden sand, clear blue waters, and an iconic lighthouse offering breathtaking panoramic views. · Hawah Beach is great for a quieter experience and watching fishermen at work. · Samudra Beach is more secluded, perfect for relaxation away from crowds. Food & Restaurants: Kovalam is a paradise for seafood lovers! I highly recommend trying Malabar prawn curry and Karimeen Pollichathu (grilled pearl spot fish) at local beachside shacks. There are also plenty of options for vegetarian and international cuisines. Accommodation: I stayed at leela , which offered great beachfront views, friendly staff, and clean rooms. Kovalam has everything from budget stays to luxury resorts, so there’s something for every traveler. Overall Experience: ✔️ Pros: Stunning beaches, amazing seafood, relaxing Ayurvedic spas, and a laid-back vibe. ❌ Cons: Some parts of the beach can get crowded and need better maintenance. ⭐ Rating: 4.5/5 Would I visit again?
