During the Edo period, the Akizuki family of Takanabe Domain established a ranch for the purpose of breeding military horses, and the horses of the samurai of that time, which were about 120 cm tall and weighed about 250 kg, became wild without being bred. This is a place with few people and beautiful natural scenery. The grasslands around the cape are natural pastures where about 100 wild horses called Misaki horses live. This is a pure native Japanese horse and is designated as a "National Natural Monument of Japan". Since they were first raised in Mizakimaki (now Cape Toi) in 1697, they have lived a free life without being managed by humans for three hundred years. If you like horses, you should plan more time here, as this is one of the few precious places where you can observe wild horses up close. Cape Toi also has about 3,000 cycads (the plants on the left in Figure 2), a native species of Japan. Cycads are said to have not evolved since 200 million years ago, so they are called living fossils and are designated as "Japan's National Natural Monument." Cape Toi Lighthouse is one of the few lighthouses in Japan that you can walk into. It is a beautiful lighthouse with superb views both from the outside and from the inside looking out. I recently took a trip to Southern Kyushu, exploring Kagoshima and Miyazaki!✨ First up, in Kagoshima, I was blown away by the massive Sakurajima volcano towering across the ocean! The sight of a giant volcano right next to the city is a uniquely Kagoshima experience and incredibly impressive.🌋 Getting around was half the fun, from flying ANA to riding the train toward Ibusuki. The cute yellow train and the "Ibusuki" station sign really got me in the mood for a railway adventure.🚃💛 In the evening, I took a stroll around downtown Kagoshima and even got to see the famous Saigo Takamori statue. I stayed at the "Hotel Oriental Express Kagoshima Tenmonkan." Its location in the Tenmonkan area made it super convenient for sightseeing and dining. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and taking my time in the morning while gazing out at Sakurajima was pure bliss.🍽️✨ Over in Miyazaki, I fully embraced the lush nature and coastal shrines. The shrine tucked inside the rocks had such a mystical vibe, and the vibrant red pavilions with their tropical flair were super photogenic.⛩️ I also came across some adorable horses grazing peacefully, which totally warmed my heart.🐴 It was the ultimate Southern Kyushu getaway, perfectly blending the vibrant city and volcanic charm of Kagoshima with the beautiful nature and serene shrines of Miyazaki!🌴✨ Hashtags

Cape Toi is located at the southernmost point of Miyazaki and also the southernmost tip of Japan's main island. This is a sanctuary for wild horses, where the horses, grasslands, and ocean create a picturesque scene. Especially during sunset, it is incredibly romantic. Within the area, there is a lighthouse you can climb, the Misaki Shrine perched on a cliff, and a camping area that looks like luxury glamping. We chose to visit near sunset this time, and it was truly beautiful. We were very lucky to see wild horses everywhere. A reminder for those driving: remember to slow down, as horses might appear on the road.
