A hotel stay in La Union is a must for a unique experience!
Title: A Dreamy Stay: Discovering Marand Beach Resort
When I was looking for a place to escape the hustle and bustle and embrace the beauty of nature, I chose Marand Beach Resort. This stay made me fall in love with the beautiful scenery and attentive service.
From the moment I arrived at the resort, I felt the warmth of Filipino culture. The resort is only about 6 km from San Fernando Airport, a short drive with beautiful scenery. The cozy decor of the reception area and the friendly smiles of the staff instantly relieved my travel fatigue.
I booked a sea view room, which was spacious and bright, elegantly decorated with local features. Each room is equipped with modern facilities, including ironing equipment, air conditioning, and a spacious wardrobe, while the details are also thoughtful, such as the slippers and hairdryer provided. From my balcony, I could see the endless ocean, and the view of the sea and sky was refreshing.
The resort has several dining options, and I tried North Mandarin and Patio Del Sol Seafood Restaurant. North Mandarin offers delicious Asian cuisine, while Patio Del Sol is the best place to enjoy fresh seafood. Every meal was a feast for the taste buds.
In addition, I participated in a local cultural tour organized by the resort, visiting nearby Pingandan Ruins and Orpilla-Estigoy Grapes Farm. These places are not only beautiful but also rich in historical significance, giving me a deeper understanding of the local culture.
After a day of activities, I enjoyed a relaxing massage at the hotel's massage room, which greatly relieved my travel fatigue. The whole experience was seamless thanks to the multilingual staff, whose attentive service made my trip more enjoyable.
This stay at Marand Beach Resort not only gave me a full relaxation of body and mind but also a deep experience of Filipino hospitality and natural beauty. It is undoubtedly an ideal choice for escaping the city and finding a peaceful place.

Kultura Splash Wave Pool in the MOUNTAINS!🍃
Let’s go swimming! Summer is waving!! 🤗🍂
This adventure is just one of the few many pools to relax and wave your problems away when going up the north of Philippines, to Baguio City, known as the SUMMER CAPITAL OF THE PHILIPPINES or stop by after your trip to see “The North”🍃🤗
Shame, the wave was not opened when we went and there’s not much fun. The food was delicious, it was just not much as we expected more and a bit pricey. It was a platter of sea foods laid on big banana leaves.
We had fun nonetheless, I was with family, the kids had fun so I’m okay.☺️🍃
We went there pre-pandemic 2019 and I don’t have a lot of photos but definitely this recreation is one for the books, check it out on their website if it’s already open. Bec of the pandemic, as most if not all, recreations were closed and I haven’t checked if they are already open, best to ☎️ them first and inquire as well if the “wave” is working as it’s one of the most fun to do when checking in.
A fun recreation to stop by after “Baguio” trip.💞🍂

Thunderbird Resorts and Casinos Poro Point
There is an entrance fee of Php300.00 per person for those who have not made any hotel reservations and would just take pictures of the place.
Experience Greece's world-renowned resort town without needing to leave our local shores, with the ever famous Santorini dome as the resort's primary landmark. Overall, the place is great. It's amazing place to visit.

Hailed as the Surfing Capital of the North, La Union takes pride in its monster swells that hug its shores for most of the year. Along with Siargao and Baler, “Elyu”, as regulars fondly call it, completes the holy trinity of Philippine surfing. The province’s reputation as a wave rider’s playground has been well documented on various publications; it’s pretty much common knowledge.
But there is so much more to La Union than its waves. Sprinkled throughout the province are a diverse set of attractions that have been largely overlooked. From historic manmade sites like Baluarte Watch Tower and Pindangan Ruins to other natural wonders like Tangadan Falls and Immuki Island, here are other noteworthy places to visit and things to do that will make you fall in love even deeper with La Union.#staycation#beachlife#themepark

La Union Philippines
LA UNION Itinerary • MUST READ! (2021)
Escape the hustle and bustle of Manila by heading up to the relaxed area of La Union. An easy bus ride away, La Union is the surf and beach destination here on Luzon island.
Aside from relaxed beach vibes, La Union is also home to a fair number of historical landmarks and nature escapes.
If you are a surfer or new to surfing this area is a great place to catch some waves. Positioned on the South China Sea the surf swell is consistent year-round with October to March being the peak season.
But being a great surfing spot is not all that La Union has to offer. Stunning waterfalls, beautiful hidden hikes and tracks through the jungle and some epic cultural sites are expecting you.
This 3-Day La Union itinerary is our take on the best sights and activities to embark on for an unforgettable adventure.
As we’ve mentioned above, exploring La Union can be a relaxing break from the busy city life in Manila. This is where the true beauty of the Philippines really starts to shine.
Whether you want to surf, hike, relax or step up your tanning game, the options are endless in la Union.
But that also means deciding on what to do and when to do it can turn into a real struggle. With so many awesome attractions, you might find yourself overwhelmed when trying to fit it all in. But don’t worry, this is where we’ll step in.
To make planning a bit easier for you, we’ve come up with the ultimate 3-Day itinerary for your La Union stay. You’ll get detailed information about each stop, when and how long to visit and how to get there.
Make note that some of the chosen spots aren’t easily reached by public transport, so you might want to opt for a rental car or a private driver. Both options are relatively cheap and give you enough freedom to get on with your day however you want.
That being said, none of these stops are mandatory and you can easily skip or add more attractions. #urbanexplorer #maydaytrip

Two of the most popular destinations in La Union lie just next to each other. San Fernando, the capital city, and San Juan, the surfing hub. But as a food lover I went to San Fernando you know to eat eat eat and eat. Food is life you know.

We stayed overnight at Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point in La Union for a breakfast meeting and we were not disappointed. The barbecue dinner buffet was priced just right with a good selection of grilled fish, pork belly and liempo, beef and hungarian sausage, and numerous side dishes and deserts. The Filipino buffet breakfast was very good.

Hammond Travels
La Union will always have a special place in my heart.
Some trips are all about checking off places, but this one was about slowing down and enjoying the moment.
I spent my days walking along the beach, watching surfers catch waves, discovering cozy cafés, and ending each evening with a sunset that never failed to amaze me. There wasn’t a strict itinerary—and that’s exactly what made it memorable.
La Union reminded me that travel isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes, it’s about taking a deep breath, enjoying good food, listening to the sound of the waves, and appreciating the simple moments that stay with you long after the trip ends.
Until next time, Elyu. I’ll definitely be back. ☀️🌴

Just got back from Tibooburra and wow, this remote outback town stuns with dramatic red landscapes, golden sand dunes, and a sunset that honestly blew my mind 🌅. If you’re chasing that pure, endless-sky Australia feeling, Tibooburra delivers.
Top Spots to Visit in Tibooburra:
1. Sturt National Park – Get those epic outback vibes and don’t miss the Jump-Up Lookout for panoramic sunset shots. Pro tip: Arrive about 30 minutes before sunset on a clear day — laUnion’s breathtaking sunset has nothing on this spot!
2. Dead Horse Gully – Trails thread through huge granite boulders and classic desert flora. It’s a quick walk from town, best explored right after sunrise when temps are bearable.
3. Tibooburra Hotel – Pop in for real outback hospitality and a cold beverage. The pub walls double as a local art gallery!
4. Corner Country Store – Stock up on supplies, homemade burgers, and chat with friendly locals.
Getting Around & Practical Tips:
🚗 You need a 4WD for gravel tracks and to access remote parts of Sturt National Park. Refuel whenever you can!
🍽️ Local eats aren’t fancy but the Tibooburra Hotel’s steak sandwich is A+ after a desert trek.
🌡️ It gets HOT — bring more water than you think you’ll need, hat and sunscreen are non-negotiable.
📱 No major supermarkets, so plan ahead for food, fuel, and cash (no 24/7 ATM here!).
📸 Trust me, sunset from the Jump-Up Lookout is unmissable — bring your camera and just soak it in.

Living slow in La Union.
There’s something quietly magical about La Union—the kind of place that doesn’t just show you beauty, but lets you feel it in the simplest ways. Maybe it’s in the steady rhythm of the waves meeting the shore, or the golden sunsets that seem to stretch time just a little longer. Here, life doesn’t feel rushed. The noise fades, the worries soften, and you find yourself breathing a little deeper without even realizing it.
Walking along the coastline, with sand beneath your feet and the ocean breeze brushing past, it feels like everything is exactly where it’s meant to be. It’s not just a destination—it’s a pause, a gentle reminder that you don’t always have to chase something big to feel whole. Sometimes, peace comes in quiet moments like this—watching the sky change colors, listening to the waves tell their endless stories, and simply allowing yourself to exist without pressure.
In La Union, even the smallest moments feel meaningful, like time slows down just enough for you to appreciate what really matters. And maybe that’s why people keep coming back—not just for the views, but for the feeling they leave behind. A kind of calm that lingers long after the trip is over, reminding you that no matter how busy life gets, there’s always a place where you can return to yourself again.

Bahay na Bato
Ready for a quick escape? Let’s dive into Luna, La Union’s hidden gems—the Bahay na Bato Open Art Gallery and the unique Luna Pebble Beach! 🤩🌊
Top Spots to Visit:
1. Bahay na Bato Open Art Gallery and Staycation (Nalvo Norte, Luna, 2518 La Union, 7AM–6PM)
This house-turned-art haven is built from classic bahay na bato, blending old-school Filipino charm with stunning sculptures and quirky art installations everywhere you look. Don’t just snap photos—listen for the relaxing sound of the waves right behind the gallery. Trust me, it’s the most soothing background music you’ll ever get while exploring art. If you stay overnight, the sea breeze and ocean sounds will lull you to sleep.
2. Luna Pebbles
Down by the shore, you’ll find Luna’s iconic Pebble Beach. Unlike sandy beaches, here it’s all smooth, wave-polished stones. It’s a photo hotspot, especially during sunrise or sunset! Skip the flip-flops; those pebbles can get tricky and warm, so wear sandals or water shoes for max comfort.
Need-to-Know Tips:
Getting Around: Ride a tricycle or rent a scooter—both are cheap and let you explore at your own pace.
Food: Try the fresh grilled seafood at local beachside stalls. Bring snacks and water, as there aren’t many restaurants near the pebbles.
Travel Hack: No special permits needed, just bring cash (ATMs are rare!), sun protection, and a hat.
Luna’s for art lovers, beach chillers, and anyone craving coastal vibes. See it before it blows up! #LaUnionFinds #LunaDayTrip #BahayNaBato #PhilippinesTravel #HiddenGemsPH

🌊 THE ELYU: Beyond the Surf in 2026 🏄♂️✨
#springtravel
Ever wondered if a place could hold the thunder of the ocean and the silence of the mountains in one breath? In 2026, La Union (affectionately "Elyu") has officially evolved from a weekend surf escape into a global model for regenerative and community-led tourism. 🌿 Following the launch of the San Juan Tourism Center, the province is proving that "genuine hospitality" means protecting the land as fiercely as we welcome its guests.
Imagine witnessing the "Rikna ti Agkaysa" (Feel the Unity) arts festival, where century-old Inabel weaving from Bangar meets modern creative energy, or trekking to the emerald Lineng Pool in San Gabriel—a sanctuary preserved by the very locals who guide you. 🧶💧 From the solar-powered eco-farms of Lotus Valley to the "Zero-Waste" movement at Immuki Island, 2026 Elyu invites you to catch a wave of a different kind—one of conscious travel and deep cultural pride. Ready to find the soul of the North? 🐚🔥🤙
📍 5 Tips for Your 2026 La Union Odyssey
✔️ Transportation: Skip the traffic! In 2026, the Luzon Expressway (TPLEX) extension makes the drive just 3.5 hours from Manila. Locally, support the "Green Balsa" movement at Immuki Island or rent an e-scooter to explore the San Juan coastline sustainably. 🛴
✔️ Best Time to Travel: December to March offers the "North Swell" for surfers and crisp 25°C weather. For culture seekers, February is the peak for the 176th Founding Anniversary and the "Lagip ti Umili" heritage exhibits. 🌸📅
✔️ Must-Visit Hot Spots: The Mach-Cho Temple for multicultural history, the Taboc Mannamili Association for traditional pottery demos, and the newly developed Top Allan Adventure Park in Sudipen for sunrise "sea of clouds" views. 🏯⛰️
✔️ Suggested Itinerary: AM: Sunrise hike at Tangadan Falls. Midday: Silk weaving immersion at the Bacnotan Trade Center. PM: Sunset surf in Urbiztondo followed by a "farm-to-table" dinner at a locally-sourced kitchen in San Juan. 🥟🌅
✔️"Do’s & Don'ts" Tips:
· DO: Practice "Respectful Attire"—per the 2025 Ordinance, when visiting temples or indigenous heritage sites, modest dress is a sign of communal honor. 🙇♂️
· DO: Use reef-safe sunscreen; La Union’s marine conservation efforts are at an all-time high to protect the local pawikan (sea turtle) nesting grounds. 🐢♻️
· DON'T: Take "souvenir" pebbles from Luna Pebble Beach; the town enforces strict preservation laws to maintain its unique geological beauty. 🚫🐚
· DON'T: Forget to carry a reusable bag; the 2026 "Clean Market" initiative in towns like Bacnotan has successfully phased out single-use plastics! 🚫🛍️
