In the Jingmai Mountain of Lancang
There is an ancient village called Nuogan
The village is simple and quiet
Each household makes a living by tea planting
The whole village is not big
Now there are less than 300 households left
It's one of the well-preserved original ancient villages in China without commercialization, which is really rare
The Jingmai Mountain where the village is located is also applying for intangible cultural heritage
Liu Haoran's movie 'One Point Straight Home' was also filmed here. This village is really my favorite among all the ancient villages I have visited. I want to stay here for a month doing nothing
I went there in mid-February
The whole Jingmai Mountain was already full of flowers. Actually, it's most beautiful to go there in March and April
At this time, you can also experience tea picking
Finally, some practical information: How to get there: You can choose to drive or take a bus. The overall road condition of Jingmai Mountain is asphalt road, but there are many winding mountain roads and bends. Be careful of oncoming vehicles when turning.
How to shoot: The day I went happened to be a rainy day, so the photos taken have a very special feel. The rain turned the eaves into a deep blue color. The main shooting location is on the main road when you enter Nuogan Ancient Village. You can also go to the roof of a local Dai family's house to shoot, which is also very photogenic.
When shooting, be sure to pay attention to exposure, do not overexpose
◆How to edit photos: You can edit towards dark and blue tones, with the highlights leaning towards blue and the shadows leaning towards blue-green
◆How to play:
It is recommended to control the duration of the visit to two days and one night
On the first day, you can stay in the neighboring Wengji Ancient Village, and play in each village for an afternoon
In Wengji Ancient Village, you can see the sea of clouds in the parking lot, and both the village gate and the village center are suitable for check-in. Remember to try the local corn wine and lemongrass grilled fish~

Yunnan | Jingmai Mountain Ancient Tea Forest Scenic Area is so beautiful!
Jingmai Mountain Ancient Tea Forest Scenic Area
Jingmai Mountain is not only beautiful, but also sincere and gentle.
About Jingmai Mountain: In 2022, National Geographic recommended 50 travel destinations to the world, and the only one in China was the Jingmai Mountain Ancient Tea Garden, which ranked first in the culture and history category. In September 2023, it was listed as a World Heritage Site, so Jingmai Mountain is getting better and better!
With 2,000 years of history of under-forest tea ecological planting and 3.2 million ancient tea trees, it is the hometown of Pu'er tea and the world's only tea-themed cultural heritage.
The natural scenery of the sea of clouds, bamboo forests, tea mountains, and winter cherry blossoms, as well as the cultural history of five ethnic groups living in harmony with nature, make up the charming picture of Jingmai Mountain.
The local customs here are simple and natural, and the residents are mainly Dai and Blang people. It is very suitable for leisure vacations, family trips, and cultural exploration.
Welcome to the mountains to taste tea, see thousand-year-old trees, and watch the sunrise and sea of clouds.

Jingmai Mountain Ctrip's own hotel and farm.
Jingmai Mountain is really a niche place!!
It was recommended by a friend nearby, but the weather was not very good when I came
The sky ☁️ was a bit gray
But the tea garden 🍵 and the morning 🌦️ were quite comfortable
This architectural design was built to avoid affecting the local tea trees
Going down the manor, you can go to the village to experience the local intangible cultural heritage
There is a sense of silence away from the hustle and bustle
-
There are not many hotel rooms
🔎Yunge·Tea Field View
It is the largest room type, on the top of the mountain, with a large room space, and you can see a whole tea garden 🍵 in the morning
🔎Yunyue·Light Luxury
Suitable for children, there is also a bed 🛏️ on the roof. This room is triangular, and the outdoor view is not bad~
🔎Yunchao·Qingshe Tree House
This room is a bit crowded, it really looks like a nest 🪹, with three floors, a tea room on the first floor, a bedroom on the second floor, and a balcony on the third floor, but the space is not large, it can only be said to be more distinctive
-
Breakfast 🥣
Nine-square grid, plus a soup, I forgot what the soup was called
-
Overall, if you want to escape the world for a short time, you can consider it, but in my opinion, it is still relatively ordinary, except for the geographical location in an intangible cultural heritage village

World Heritage Site, Jingmai Mountain Guide.
Jingmai Mountain was just listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2023. It is still in a relatively primitive state: transportation is inconvenient, and no tickets are required 🎫
👉Transportation
Public transportation is inconvenient, so self-driving or carpooling is recommended.
The road from Xishuangbanna to Jingmai Mountain is mostly mountain roads, which will test your driving skills. There is also a section of gravel road that is hard on tires.
We rented a car, and the driver drove very fast. If you are confident in your driving skills, you can also drive yourself.
👉Number of Days
You can take a 1-day tour or a 3-4 day tour, depending on your schedule.
We did a day trip, which was tiring, but we saw all the main attractions.
👉Attractions
✅Jingmai Mountain Exhibition Center: Learn about the process of applying for World Heritage status, the tea culture of Jingmai Mountain, the history of Pu'er tea, etc.
✅Dapingzhang Ancient Tea Garden (core ancient tea garden of the World Heritage Site): Learn about the growth environment of ancient tea trees and the ruins of the Ancient Tea Horse Road.
✅Nuogan Ancient Village: Learn about the history of the Dai people growing tea on Jingmai Mountain. Nuogan is also the most photogenic spot on Jingmai Mountain. There are travel photography shops and ethnic clothing rentals in the village.
✅Wengji Ancient Village: A settlement of the Blang people, with 2,500-year-old ancient trees, a rainforest coffee shop opened by a Frenchman, etc. 1 km further up is Wengwa Village, which is more primitive and less commercial.
✅Jingmai Dazhai: Sacred Tree Coffee, Exhibition Center.
✅Bee God Tree + Princess Banyan + Octagonal Pagoda: You will pass by these on the way, and you can stop to take photos 📷

Nuogan Ancient Village | Fall in love at first sight, perhaps this is what a paradise looks like.
In this remote and peaceful southwestern borderland, there is a hidden secret that few people have set foot in - Nuogan Ancient Village. It is like a painting carefully carved by nature, quietly spread out on the banks of the Lancang River.
Nuogan Ancient Village is located in Huimin Town, Lancang Lahu Autonomous County, Pu'er City. It is a natural village mainly inhabited by the Dai people, with a history of over 1,000 years. The ancient village is surrounded by thousands of acres of ancient tea gardens, and the villagers have been making a living by planting tea for generations. The ancient village houses are unique in their wooden stilt-house structure, with houses stacked on top of each other, usually two stories high. The first floor is used for storage, and the second floor is used for living. This is to adapt to the hot and humid climate of the tropical rainforest.
The ancient village is not very big. It takes about 3 hours to walk around slowly and drink tea. It is recommended to walk to a high place and look down at the ancient village from above. It looks like a half-moon embedded in the valley. The village is open all night and has not been commercially developed. There are not many choices for food and accommodation. You can visit other villages nearby after visiting the village.
Tourist activities
Tea culture: Each household in the ancient village has a tea house to receive guests. You can drink tea for free and experience the hospitality of the Dai people.
Sightseeing: The Buddhist temple is located at the highest point of the village, which is the best place to view the ancient village. There is also an observation deck opposite the Buddhist temple, which offers a panoramic view of the ancient village.

Dendrobium is also a symbol of architectural culture.
🔽Dendrobium is also a symbol of architectural culture and a magical plant. The village center is the starting point and center of the construction of the Jingmai Mountain ethnic village, and is considered to be the place where the village god is located and the place where the village god ceremony is held. According to local legends, the village god of Nuogang Old Village was transformed after the death of the first village head who built the village. To this day, when major changes such as the construction of new houses, the birth of infants, or the death of the elderly occur in the village, the current village head still needs to worship the village center and inform the village god. The village center is a reflection of the worship and folk beliefs of the ancestors of the Jingmai Mountain Dai people.
Nuogan Ancient Village is the location of many film and television works, such as "One Point to Home", the recently popular "Bian Shui Past Events", and "Road of Fire" released on National Day.
On the road, we saw a sign standing by the road, and we decisively stopped by the road. In order to better protect the ancient tea trees, the roads on Jingmai Mountain are all paved with these stones.
The special feature of Jingmai Mountain Ancient Tea Forest is the "forest tea" planting method, which refers to the selective thinning of some trees and shrubs in the forest, the use of tea seed sowing and sexual reproduction, and the formation of local tea tree dominant communities in the shrub layer. After more than a hundred years of cultivation and replacement, a forest tea planting system with good forest ecology and a significant tree, shrub, and grass structure has been formed.

Pu'er is not just tea, but a longing for ancient tea mountains.
At dawn, I drove through the winding mountain roads with infinite longing for the ancient tea mountains. The hustle and bustle of Sichuan gradually faded away, and the mysterious green world of Yunnan - Jingmai Mountain, was slowly unveiling its veil. This time, we chose to stay at the Banyan Tree Lincang Jingmai, a hidden paradise in the sea of tea, and embarked on an immersive journey of tea and nature.
Stepping into my mountain view suite is like stepping into a flowing landscape painting. In the early morning, I opened the balcony door, and the boundless tea mountains and the misty morning mist intertwined in front of me. I seemed to smell the tea fragrance in the air, which was so refreshing and refined that it made people feel relaxed and happy. The design of the suite's balcony is ingenious, facing the tea garden, with a cup of Pu'er in hand, watching the clouds roll and the clouds stretch, time here becomes gentle and slow.
Banyan Tree Lincang Jingmai is not just a place to rest, it is integrated with the surrounding environment, surrounded by organic tea gardens, walking in it, you can feel the hotel's concept of harmonious coexistence with nature. Here, every breath is pure oxygen, and every step is on the millennium tea culture. Hand in hand with the family, explore in this green ocean, experience the fun of picking tea, feel the daily life of tea farmers, it is a rare practice of life aesthetics.
At night, the lights of the ancient village are dotted, and the night in Lincang is so quiet and charming. There are many ethnic minorities living near the hotel. Their festivals, customs, and food are all irreplaceable cultural treasures here. We were fortunate to participate in a bonfire party of the Blang people. During the singing and dancing, it seemed to travel through time and space, and talked with the ancestors of this land, which was an indescribable touch and shock.
The fatigue of the journey was perfectly released in the tea SPA of Banyan Tree. Using pure organic tea extracts, combined with the essence of Eastern and Western care, the technician's technique is just right, and every inch of skin is treated gently. Close your eyes, surrounded by the fragrance of tea, and the soft music in your ears. At that moment, I seemed to breathe with the world and found the long-lost tranquility and balance.

🌟The architecture of the homestay is unique, with stone tiles on the top and wooden tenons on the bottom. The 4 independent villas and 1 core courtyard are cleverly connected through the corridor. Such a settlement distribution echoes the ancient village, and the local village and homestay grow together. Staying in Abaila is not just returning to a warm home🏠, but also entering a kind village.😃
🌸Inward is history, outward is nature. From the public area to the guest room, the use of Bulang ethnic elements in different areas of the homestay corresponds to the cultural customs, historical legends and tea mountain nature of Jingmai Mountain.😍

In Jingmai Mountain, you can easily enjoy a sunrise over a sea of clouds.
Even if there is thunder and lightning at night, you can still enjoy a perfect sea of clouds in the morning. You can even get up at 7:00 and drive for a few minutes to Jingmai Golden Pagoda to watch the sunrise. The solemn golden pagoda is surrounded by a sea of clouds, and the golden sky in the distance is spread out. The beautiful scenery is surrounded by no one, and you can enjoy it alone. Perhaps for the Dai and Bulang people on Jingmai Mountain, this scene is as common as a meal, but for those who come from afar, it is enough for this trip.

A Hotel in the Clouds | Jingmai Bvlgari
Located in the mountains of Yunnan, the Lancang Jingmai Bvlgari Hotel is a hidden gem that provided me with an unforgettable stay. From the moment I stepped into the hotel, I was attracted by its design that combines tradition and modernity.
The rooms are simple yet luxurious, and the view of the tea garden outside the window makes you feel like you are in a vivid landscape painting.
The hotel staff are warm and thoughtful. From the pick-up service to the check-in procedures, every detail reveals professionalism and care. The room facilities are complete, from high-quality toiletries to comfortable bedding, all of which make me feel the hotel's intentions.
The most memorable thing is the hotel's tea culture experience. In the tea room, I had the opportunity to taste a variety of Pu'er teas and personally experience the tea-making process under the guidance of the staff. The afternoon tea in the tea garden in the afternoon allowed me to enjoy a quiet time in the tea fragrance. The hotel's tea SPA is a unique enjoyment. Professional therapists use the essence of tea to bring me a relaxing journey of body and mind.
The hotel's catering is also a highlight. Every dish uses local organic ingredients, which are not only delicious, but also healthy. Here, every meal is a feast for the taste buds.
In short, Jingmai Bvlgari Hotel is not just a hotel, it is more like a paradise that allows me to escape from the hustle and bustle and experience the blend of nature and culture. Everything here makes me linger and look forward to the next reunion.

Yunnan Lancang County Bulang Ancient Village, Wengji Ancient Village (lesser-known free attraction)
📍Attraction Address: Wengji Thousand-Year Bulang Ancient Village, Mangjing Village, Huimin Town, Lancang County, 73 kilometers from the county seat, 28 kilometers from the town government.
🚗Transportation: We drove there ourselves.
👍️Must-visit Attraction: Wengji Bulang Ancient Village has a long history, with well-preserved and inherited Bulang ecological culture, rich primitive features, beautiful natural scenery, and prominent ethnic characteristics. It is known as the 'Thousand-Year Bulang Ancient Village.' The ancient village has attractions such as ancient villages, temples, village gates, village centers, ancient cypress trees, and other scenic spots. It is a tourist village mainly focused on developing Bulang cultural tourism.
The academic community recognizes that the Bulang people are one of the earliest tea-growing ethnic groups in Yunnan. The 'Guangnan County Chronicle' records: In the 5th century BC, the Juting Kingdom was formed by tribes mainly consisting of Liao and Pu. During the Sui and Tang dynasties (589-907 AD), the Puzi Man were distributed in Jingdong, Baoshan, Yunlong, and other places, as well as along the Lancang River. In the early Ming Dynasty, the Bulang people became the main ethnic group in Fengqing County. During the Qing Dynasty, the Bulang people gradually migrated southward to places like Shunning and Qingdian. The areas where these Bulang people once lived left large areas of tea fields, becoming the main tea-producing regions in Yunnan. Therefore, it is well-deserved to say that the Bulang people are thousand-year-old tea farmers.
🎟️Ticket Information: No reservation needed, no tickets required.
💗Other Tips: A very lesser-known attraction.

A must-visit place for an in-depth tour of Pu'er - Jingmai Mountain
I won't allow you to not know about this hidden ancient village❗️|||A must-visit place for an in-depth tour of Pu'er - Jingmai Mountain, a secluded village that seems to be isolated from everything, with simple folk customs, no commercialization, no crowds, sunsets, sea of clouds, and simple buildings, half poetic, half mundane.
📍Location: Huimin Town, Lancang Lahu Autonomous County, Pu'er City
🚗Transportation: Self-driving is recommended
🏩Accommodation: I stayed at Lalong Yunqi Xiaozhu Inn in Lancang, which has a good view. Many photos of the sea of clouds were taken on the inn's rooftop.
📷Check-in spots:
🔺Wengji Ancient Village
A village where the Blang people live, the whole town is quiet and simple, with a Buddhist temple. The Blang people are also one of the earliest ethnic groups to cultivate tea. With the arrival of tourists, tea culture has been popularized, and tea sales have been boosted. There are many tea houses, tea shops, and inns in the village. The movie 'Coffee or Tea?' was also filmed here. There is an ancient cypress tree in the village, which seems to have experienced thousands of years, telling the past and present of the ancient village.
🔺Nuogan Ancient Village
Nuogan Ancient Village is 10 kilometers away from Wengji Ancient Village, a 30-minute drive. The whole village looks very spectacular from a high vantage point. The main ethnic group living here is the Dai people. The buildings are mostly stilt-style, divided into two floors, with the upper floor for living and the lower floor for raising livestock. This architectural style is used to cope with the local climate, keeping the upper living area comfortable and dry. The whole village has very simple folk customs, with no commercial atmosphere. The villagers are very hospitable, and it feels like everything slows down here, returning to the original state of life.

Time slows down here
I am a middle-aged girl who has been living in Yunnan for 8 years, a rural pathfinder, continuously organizing Yunnan's niche attractions and villages ♥️
🛖
Today's main character is 'Nuogang,' an old Dai village located in the southwestern border area. It has inconvenient external transportation, and villagers rarely go out, leading to a self-sufficient lifestyle. As a result, tourists are scarce, and the village retains its original and simple appearance. The village is very small, with few shops, and impatient people can finish touring it in less than an hour, but you can try to slow down here.
🌿
It was about a year ago when I visited. I had thought of various sensational titles like 'Not Thailand, It's Yunnan!' or 'Yunnan, why aren't you promoting this?' Now thinking back, it's funny to use such tacky titles to write about it.

Mengben Village in Jingmai Mountain made me stop
🌟Highlights:
Sea of clouds, comfortable environment, kind and simple people
👍Highly recommended:
Accommodation: Be sure to choose Lancang Bamboo Forest Mountain Homestay. We stayed here for a few days and felt the time was a bit short. We hope to stay longer next time. The owners are a young couple, very nice, great at cooking, and they took us to experience tea picking and coffee making. It was very peaceful and comfortable. We gave up going to Nuogan and Wengji and just relaxed here for a few days.
🚉Transportation Guide:
Kunming-Puer high-speed train, Puer-Lancang bus, Lancang-Huimin Town bus, Huimin Town-Jingmai Mountain uphill bus. (Because of our schedule, we missed the Lancang-Huimin Town bus, so it was a bit of a hassle)
The road up the mountain is all gravel and very bumpy, to protect the ecology.
⏳Travel time:
We stayed for three days and two nights
📝Tips:
It is the rainy season now
If you like the taste of the tea, you can buy some, but don't discuss how much you know about tea or how many years the tea is with the tea farmers. They are tea farmers.

Drinking Pu'er in Pu'er~
A person went through great hardships to take public transportation to Jingmai Mountain
Washing off the dust of travel in the ancient village of Wengji
Pu'er tea is very delicious, and the people are very hospitable
Quietly watching the sunrise and sunset
Because the transportation is not well developed
The original ecological things are well preserved
I hope people and things can continue to remain simple

Escape the summer heat in the thousand-year-old ancient village, Chalin Ancient Village, Nuogan Ancient Village
Escape the summer heat in the thousand-year-old ancient village, Chalin Ancient Village
The last sanctuary in the deep mountains of Yunnan, Nuogan Ancient Village on Jingmai Mountain, is a true paradise on earth. The villagers still live in the traditional Dai-style stilted wooden houses. Jingmai Mountain is a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage site, and it is the largest production area of Pu'er tea. The villagers in the mountains rely on tea planting for their livelihood.
The Bulang and Dai ethnic groups are the main inhabitants of Jingmai Mountain, and Nuogan Ancient Village has preserved the most original ecology of Jingmai Mountain's culture and architectural history.
Traditional Residences
Entering Nuogan Ancient Village, what appears before your eyes is a cluster of black-tiled wooden houses, with the traditional residences of the Dai and Bulang ethnic groups being stilted wooden or bamboo houses. The most distinct feature distinguishing Dai from Bulang residences is that the Dai often have multiple eaves with overlapping tiles, while the Bulang usually have single eaves, with a common decoration of one bud and two leaves at the flying eaves.
The stilted houses have livestock on the first floor and living quarters on the second. A hundred years ago, before the use of tile decorations, the residences in Nuogan also used thatched roofs.
Tea Frying
Tea is the livelihood of every household in Nuogan Ancient Village. The ancient tea culture has continued for a thousand years, and as you stroll through the village, the fragrance of tea is everywhere. In front of the houses, black tea is being sun-dried, and every villager's home has a tea pot, with the tender leaves being stir-fried to release the unique aroma of Jingmai Mountain's Pu'er tea.
Viewing Platform
The village's viewing platform is located at the highest point, where you can overlook the entire village. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from the entrance of the village to the viewing platform. Free
Village Tea Tasting
The simple customs are the romance of the ancient village. Even if it's your first visit to Nuogan, every household will invite you in for tea, making you feel as warmly welcomed as if you were returning to your hometown. Be sure to taste a cup of authentic Pu'er tea. Free You can also buy tea at various prices from tens to thousands of yuan
Nuogan Ancient Temple
In the center of the ancient village stands the Nuogan Ancient Temple, a Dai-style Theravada temple built during the Qing Dynasty. It is the venue for various major events in the village.
Traditional Clothing
With a slanted lapel short jacket and a slim tube skirt, there is a tailor shop that makes particularly exquisite Dai ethnic clothing. You can buy, rent, or even get your hair done for your own photoshoot. The cost is around 70 yuan.

A lesser-known travel destination in Yunnan, a village with a history of over a thousand years
Nuogan Ancient Village, this Dai minority ancient village has a history of over a thousand years, not many people know about it, and even fewer have visited.
-
Just left, and I'm already missing it.
-
I especially like the village in the morning and evening, the air seems to carry the fragrance of tea leaves, with the occasional bark of a dog, it feels like my heart has been cleansed.
-
The environment here is beautiful, with good ecology. Surrounded by mountains, there is an open basin in the middle, the 'Nuogan' in the village name means 'pond' in the ethnic language, and 'gan' means 'deer', so Nuogan means a place where deer come to drink.
-
Ancient tea trees are scattered around Nuogan Ancient Village, and within the village, there are scattered ancient dwellings and temples, preserving a relatively complete Dai culture and the original ancient village appearance.
-
The Dai people here have been living with tea for generations, forming a unique and ancient Dai culture.
-
A village that you don't want to leave once you arrive, existing like a peaceful haven, quiet, comfortable, and cozy.
