Alright, we didn’t see the rime ice, but we witnessed a stunning sunrise and a sea of clouds. Truly a blessing in disguise. This time, the group was assembled very successfully: two beautiful young ladies, a camping group expert and leader, and everyone had great personalities. We walked and took photos along the way. We set off Sunday night and arrived at the foot of the Great Earth Wilderness mountain in the early morning. We originally planned to start climbing around 5 or 6 AM, but Longwang Mountain seems to be very popular lately, and there were many people going up at dawn. While resting in the car, the flashlights from passersby outside were quite disturbing, so we decided to start climbing immediately (a very wise decision—many thanks to those mischievous folks outside shining their flashlights on us). It was around 4 AM when four sneaky guys and girls, under a brilliant starry sky and wrapped in the cold mountain air, climbed the mountain in the dark. We reached the flat area just before the summit right in time for the sunrise and sea of clouds. If we had left as originally planned, we might have only seen the sea of clouds. When we descended around 9 AM, the snow on the road and frost on the trees began to melt. A very humid terrain fog gradually gathered on the slope, making the path muddy and extremely difficult to walk down. This was the most miserable descent of all our hiking activities this year. On the final steep slope, it felt like taking even a small step would cause slipping. The trekking poles couldn’t prevent slipping, so we had to put on crampons. Although they were a bit uncomfortable, at least we didn’t have to worry about falling (this time, LOWA boots were not as good as Decathlon’s MH500). One of the ladies asked why some people visit the same place many times. The same place, at different times, seasons, weather, and with different people, offers different experiences.
