Vientiane is a capital city that is slow-paced, simple, and charming. It’s not as hectic as big cities, making it perfect for those looking to unwind, take a stroll, enjoy good food, and immerse themselves in the culture. 📍 Highlight Attractions - Pha That Luang – A significant golden landmark. - Patuxai (Victory Gate) – Laos' version of the Arc de Triomphe, with a viewpoint at the top. ☕ Strong, aromatic Lao coffee at great prices. ✈️🇹🇭➡️🇱🇦 Fly from Thailand to Vientiane in just over an hour. Super convenient, and you can start exploring right away.

This is the best thing to do in Vientiane and I’d recommend a trip to the city just to see it - it’s that good! The Lao Museum of art is a monumental undertaking that is still being constructed, they’ve opened most of it but theres still a lot to come! On arrival you can walk along the pontoon bridge or get the shuttle bus at a cost, I chose to walk to take in the view! The building itself is absolutely stunning with amazing intricate designs both inside and outside, it is situated within lush garden grounds that offer views out over the lake. Once inside you have a main golden room held up with 9 pillars, each representing different elements of Lao culture and heritage. Leading off from the main room are larger rooms housing statues, paintings and antique treasures. There is also an escalator down to the more open plan rooms that house the fascinating collection of wood carvings - something the country is famous for. Along the way there are places you need to remove your shoes and remain quiet, there are sign posts and shoe racks at each of these areas. There are toilets dotted around and a nice restaurant and cafe located on the left hand side, which also offers WiFi and toilets. There is a gift shop inside that is a little bit hidden but I am very glad I found it, they have some interesting hand crafts and some locally brewed sugar cane spirits! Really good for gifts. I advise arriving at opening time as it is the quietest, there are lots of big tour groups that arrive in coaches and they can be very loud! I left just as they were arriving and I was very glad I got in there before them. This is somewhere that will stay with me forever and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city, it is well worth the journey! 🚗🚕 It’s around a 45 minute drive from the city and the local drivers know it well. 🏍️We traveled from Pakse to Tad Fane Waterfall for about an hour. Upon reaching the waterfall, there's a parking area and staff members on hand to guide us through the route. We then followed the guided trail to the waterfall area. The sound of the waterfall and the gentle breeze was refreshing, and the scent of the atmosphere was filled with the sounds of nature. The waterfall itself flows from the forest and cascades down a deep ravine, creating a view of two cascading streams, creating a beautiful and thrilling experience. We agreed on ziplining for this trip, crossing the waterfall. The ziplining fee is 1,500 baht per person, and the staff will be on hand to record videos and photos throughout. It's a fantastic experience, and I guarantee that anyone who zips here will get stunning photos and videos. After ziplining, we went to various photo spots, especially the hammock photo spot. Just taking photos from there, you'll be able to see both the forest and the waterfall. It's absolutely stunning from every angle. Let's see how much we spent. 🏡 Accommodation for 2 nights = 2,180 baht. The first night, we stayed at Angsavanh in Vang Vieng. We arrived on a weekday and chose the cheapest room for 980 baht (no extra charge for children). The room was air-conditioned, but the bathroom was shared. However, on the day we went, it was just us at the resort. Breakfast was included. The second night, we stayed at Ang Nam Tong in Muang Pheung. We stayed in the new zone, a large room with a bathtub, and breakfast for 1,200 baht (the old zone is under beautiful trees, but the rooms are smaller). This price includes a paddle boat ride. Or go boating in the reservoir. 🫕 Food expenses = 3,500 baht. We ate 5 meals at Naked Espresso, Green Restaurant, Pull Mind, Ang Nam Tong, and PVO Vietnamese Food. Each meal cost an average of 600 baht, totaling 3,000 baht. He fled to this cave, hoping to seek refuge with King Minh Mang, the Vietnamese king. However, his son-in-law, "Chao Noi Muang Phuan," the ruler of Xiangkhouang, captured him and sent him to Bangkok, where he died. Later, when the Lao government elevated Xaisomboun to a special district, the cave was developed as a tourist attraction and established Anouvong City as the administrative center of Xaisomboun Province. There are two caves, each accessible from a different entrance. The first is the large cave, with its entrance clearly visible. It's located to the left of the sign (facing the sign). This cave is not very deep, approximately 200 meters. The entrance is still intact, with a small limestone waterfall. Due to the high number of visitors, the limestone waterfall has been lost. The path is slippery, so be careful. The second cave entrance is on the right side of the sign. Look for the guard statue. The last statue has a small opening to enter. The front of the cave is landscaped with a public garden and features a standing statue of Chao Anuwong. Location: About 4 kilometers from the city center, taking the same route as to Wang Nam Khiao. Traveling in Southern Laos for 2 days and 1 night, where did we go?? **Here are the places we visited** 📍🇱🇦 1. Tad Fane Waterfall: Let's go ziplining across the waterfall. It was both exciting and scary, but so much fun! 🦥🌿 2. Tad Yueang Waterfall and Tad Tayik Suea Waterfall: These two waterfalls are located in separate locations, but they both share a similar, incredibly powerful water flow. We were soaked, like we'd been rained on. Even our raincoats weren't enough, lol. I recommend bringing extra clothes in case we get wet. ☔️💦 3. Tung Wai Homestay: This is our accommodation. The atmosphere is wonderful, with a stream flowing through it, giving us a very refreshing feeling. The homestay area is beautifully decorated with shady trees and cute flowers. It's a great place to rest your body and mind. 🪻🌳 4. CC 1971 Café: This quaint cafe is housed in an old war-torn building. The building still has large bullet holes, remains of weapons, and ammunition used as decorations. It gives off a warlike, mysterious, and spooky vibe. The coffee tastes average, nothing amazing, but I highly recommend giving it a try. ☕️🏚️ In short, a 2-day, 1-night trip to Southern Laos is a great way to spend a short time, but you can still do a lot. We started by taking the train to Nong Khai Station. We took train 133, arriving in Nong Khai at 7:55 AM, which was a good time, not too early. Afterward, we took a tricycle from the train station to the border crossing. We stopped for lunch at a 7-Eleven or something at the border crossing, cleared Thai immigration, and then took a bus across the border to Lao immigration. Upon reaching the Lao side, we took a bus into the city. From the border crossing, we got off at the morning market because it was cheap, had frequent departures, and had cool air conditioning and comfortable seats. After arriving at the morning market, there was a considerable time gap between the bus from the morning market and the Vientiane Lao-China Railway Station. We strolled around and found food at a nearby shopping mall, Parkson. We bought a Lotteria burger for lunch before catching the train to Luang Prabang. While waiting, we went to Starbucks to relax and wait for the train to depart. As the train was getting closer, we walked back to the morning market bus station and then took the bus to Vientiane Railway Station. Upon arriving at the station, you might have to wait outside if you arrive early, as the train station doesn't allow early entry. It only opens a short time before the train departs. Then there's the line, ticket checks, and baggage scanning. It can be quite time-consuming, but once inside, it's just a matter of waiting for the train. No need to walk far to find your gate like at the airport. We took the C84, leaving Vientiane at 2:30 PM and arriving in Luang Prabang around 4:40 PM (I can't remember the exact time). On the way to Luang Prabang, the mountain views were absolutely stunning. The train was comfortable, but the air conditioning wasn't very cool. You might have to be patient, but the two-hour journey from Vientiane to Luang Prabang is a breeze! ⛰️ Finally, we're here, Luang Prabangggg. We arrived in the evening. The scenic view was amazing as soon as we stepped out of the train station. Then, we headed straight to the van into the city. The vans take you from the train station to the city center. The fare is about 70 baht per person. Tell the driver where you want to get off and which hotel you want to stay at, and they'll take you there. We arrived in the evening on our first day, so we didn't do much sightseeing. After checking in at our accommodation, we went out to find something to eat at the night market. There's a ton of food, everything from sweets and savory to fruit juices, but the prices are a bit on the touristy side. It's not that cheap, but the cost of living is about the same as in Thailand. I didn't go anywhere today because I had so many connections, so I was a bit tired and bored. I'd better go to bed. Day 1: Vientiane Starting from our trip to Laos, we had to check out the iconic Pha That Luang in Vientiane. 🛕 It's incredibly beautiful and impressive, and the surrounding atmosphere is so peaceful, we were able to both pray and take photos at the same time. Afterward, we stopped by Phozap, a famous restaurant in Vientiane, serving up delicious, spicy Lao food. 🥗🍲 Day 2: Vang Vieng Today, we continued our journey to Vang Vieng. The highlight was a visit to Tham Nang Fah. Walking inside, we enjoyed the cool breeze and admired the beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. 🪨 We then continued on to the Blue Lagoon. 💦 The water was incredibly clear, and people were having fun swimming and jumping rope. We even took a refreshing dip. In the evening, we stayed at the Riverside Raft House. The atmosphere is amazing! Right on the waterfront, with mountain views and a truly natural feel. 🌿 Chilling, sipping a drink, and enjoying the view is so wonderful.
