Ijen Volcano: Enter the earthly paradise left behind by the gods After two consecutive all-nighters challenging two volcanoes, the trip to Surabaya was absolutely amazing! To catch the ghostly blue flames unique to the late night, we set off at 11 PM to the village at the foot of the volcano. After a short rest, we started our climb at 2 AM, stepping on volcanic ash. Along the way, it was pitch dark, but looking up revealed a sky full of stars and a dazzling Milky Way, breathtakingly beautiful. We reached the summit in just one hour, then descended over loose rocks to the crater. Facing the dual challenges of steep cliffs and slopes, we successfully arrived after 30 minutes. Approaching the blue flames, the sulfur smell was pungent, so we had to wear gas masks. Seeing the world's largest natural blue fire was an indescribable shock; being able to get so close and witness the fascinating interaction between volcanic lava and sulfur was incredible. After viewing the blue flames, we climbed further up to the summit overlooking the volcanic lake.
