I took a walk along the Beach in Liepāja (Latvia) on a very windy and cold October day, it was deserted except for a few dog walkers and crazy tourists like me, being right on the Baltic Sea it was literally Baltic ,freezing!They certainly don’t call it the “city where the wind is born” for nothing ! I suspect doing this in January would be a lot colder and you would definitely see snow. A few facts and information- Liepāja’s reputation as a great beach for swimming dates back to the 1860s, when the city was an emerging resort town popular among European and Russian aristocrats, including the Russian Tsar. With its soft white sand and glistening sea, Liepāja Beach remains a popular destination among leisure travellers to this day. The shore stretching along Liepāja’s historical centre is about 1.2 km long and 50-80 meters wide of the weather is calm. Since 2001, the beach flies the Blue Flag in summer, certifying water quality, coastal quality, safety, access to services and environmental education and information. The central beach by the lifeguard tower is adapted for people with visual and mobility impairments. On April 8th 1950, a U.S Navy PB4Y-2 Privateer aircraft was shot down by Soviet fighter jets off the coast of Liepāja. The plane, nicknamed “Turbulent Turtle”, was on a reconnaissance mission, but it strayed into Soviet airspace, leading to the incident. A monument on Liepāja’s beach commemorates the 10 crew members who died in the crash. The monument is often called “The Mother of the wind” by locals, and every year a commemoration ceremony is held at the monument, attended by representatives from the U.S. embassy and Latvian officials.

After an exhausted day in Riga, picked up a car and drive 3 hours toward the west to Leipaja, the hidden gem of Latvia! Nestled on the coast of the Baltic Sea. The Naval Cathedral Church of Saint Nicholas and Karosta prison are interesting place to go. The Karosta prison was a military prison and kept its original layout and it’s guided tour only. You can even book a cell to stay overnight to experience the life of a prisoner. Surprisingly, there are around 5-7 bookings per week. The Leilpaja beach is a great place to relax, and highly recommended. A perfect ending for a day with a summer drink - aperol spritz. Amazing place

It is a perfect place for hipsters and all creatives wanting to relax in a non stagnant way. The city breathes with culture and places to discover. There are great cafes and little pockets of town to get lost in. Bring a book, bring your paints or writing and you will feel right at home. And I haven’t even mentioned the beaches yet! Address - Liepaja city center#Overseas travel Environment/Facilities - Comfortable Features: Convenient transportation, friendly staff Price per person - 400 Rating – 9.5/10 Liva Hotel is located in the centre of Liepaja, next to the tourist centre and the square, opposite the University of Liepaja, with tram and bus stops right outside. The train station is an 8-minute tram ride away. It is within walking distance to various attractions in the city and the beach. If you are coming to Liepaja, I recommend this hotel, it is very convenient for travel. There are also many restaurants around, and pizza shops and Burger King are within 2 minutes away. The room is consistent with the official pictures and is clean. There are just not enough wash basins, which is a bit inconvenient when washing. The breakfast is very rich for someone like me who doesn’t eat much! In general, this is a good value for money hotel, worth recommending!

I arrived in Liepāja a city in Latvia’s Kurzeme region by ferry from Germany and needed a hotel to stay for a few nights ,and I found the Amrita located in the city centre. This 4star hotel offers rooms with a flat screen TV with cable channels ,tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board ,a safe , WiFi ,a mini bar and private bathroom and also free parking for guests . The rooms at the Amrita hotel have a modern and bright design with wooden furniture which includes a work desk and wardrobe. The reception which is right opposite the main entrance and accessible by lifts from the rooms has a 24hr friendly staff that spoke English. The hotel has a lovely restaurant called Oskars in the lobby which serves international and also Latvian dishes ,and in the morning a breakfast buffet is available. Downstairs from the hotel Bar Bruno serves Barbecue and Latvian cuisine as well as beers wines and spirits , it has table games and TVs showing sport , I had a few pints of some lovely Latvian beer there watching the football ⚽️🍺🍻 Liepaja has a beautiful white sandy beach which is under a mile away from the Amrita hotel and being right in the city centre your close to shops and transport, there is a shopping centre directly opposite the hotel and Liepaja Train and Bus Station is just 1kilometre away. The Liepaja Olympic Centre, a spa and Swimming pool is just 850metres away ,while the Ice Hall is 50 metres away …. Lovely hotel , great location, friendly staff , nice food and very reasonably priced , I would recommend the Amrita if you’re in Liepaja !!!! 🇱🇻
