Huoshan Scenic Area Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Longchuan Huoshan Scenic Area in Guangdong
Huoshan Tourist Scenic Area has three hundred and seventy-two peaks, among which the most exquisite one is called the Great Buddha Trace. During the reign of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, there was a man named Huo Long, styled Lingyang, who lived here, hence the name Huoshan. Legend has it that in ancient times, there were no big mountains here. It was because when the goddess Nüwa was mending the sky, she scattered the remaining bit of building paste onto the mortal world, which happened to fall on Huoshan, thus making Huoshan present steep cliffs, sheer precipices, standing tall in the sky, with strange rocks and a thousand different postures, making it an extraordinary mountain peak that astonishes onlookers.
Huoshan is one of the seven famous mountains in Guangdong, a provincial-level forest park, and a national AAAA-rated tourist area, known far and wide for its perilous red cliffs and strange rocks.
Whenever there is fog, one can see clouds and mist below, with peaks revealing their sharp stones, and the sky barely visible. If you are in this place, you see clouds below, peaks above, with clouds and mist moving back and forth under your feet, suddenly rising and falling, entwining and dispersing rapidly, creating a myriad of weather phenomena, as if ascending to the fairy mountains and jade towers, truly a scene where only the sky is above, with no mountain equal in height. Standing on the peak and looking into the distance, the sky is high and the earth is wide, boundless, with thousands of mountains faintly visible, and a thousand more mountains lush with greenery, clouds low and mist hazy, ridges racing like elephants. The boundaries of the seven counties of Longchuan, Wuhua, Zijin, Dongyuan, Lianping, Heping, and Boluo are clearly in sight, and the two rivers of Dong and Han appear like green silk ribbons, dancing among the mountains, with fields and villages resembling a paradise on earth, such a beautiful fairyland! No wonder when Su Dongpo wandered here in the past, he was inspired to chant: 'Huoshan's fine aura wraps around like lush onions, its presence overpowering the number one peak of Xunzhou; the stone path's surface dust is swept away by the rain, the cave door is unlocked, inviting the clouds to seal; the boat's head where immortals once crossed, the jar's wine from yesteryear even more robust; with swift steps ascend and open your eyes, the beauty of the south of the Yangtze River reflects in the pupils.' The estimated tour time is about 4 hours.

Tuocheng
To visit the Tuocheng scenic area, it is closest to get off at Longchuan West Station (high-speed rail station), which is less than 3 kilometers away from Tuocheng. There is also a bus service from the West Station, but the frequency is low. Tuocheng, also known as Longchuan City, was established as a county in 214 BC, with Zhao Tuo (later the King of Nanyue) as its first county magistrate, hence it was later named Tuocheng. Tuocheng is a world-famous Hakka ancient town and a renowned city of Lingnan culture. Despite the vicissitudes of a thousand years, the ancient city's relics are well preserved. The ancient city walls, Zhao Tuo's former residence, the King of Yue Temple, the King of Yue Well, the City God Temple, the Academy, the Examination Hall, the Chamber of Commerce, and the theater, among others, all have many stories to tell. Tuocheng is worth a half-day stay.
